NETS HIDDEN DREAM SCENARIO ON PLAYER DEVELOPMENT?

Nets dream scenario:

1 egor makes huge leap

2 Traoure gets a shot at point to start season due to mikal ankle

3 wow. Traoure ALSO looks like he made a huge leap.

4 nets bring Mikal in at off guard and he looks great and comfortable with less responsibility

5 nets move egor to SF…easy transition due to new size and bulk

6 nets deal MPJ for a nice package

note: I def think Mikal has enough size and off ball skill/shooting to play off as well as run point.

Bruh you dream way to little.. my wet dream scenario is that we sign Joker as a FA in the off-season

My more realistic dream scenario is that we get the best versions out of most of the roster, especially the top 6 players:

  • Randell plays at an All-NBA 3rd team level
  • MPJ plays at an All-Star level
  • Egor plays like a top 3 sophomore level and is in the MIP conversation
  • MBJ plays like a top 3 rookie level and is in the ROY conversation
  • Sharp plays like a 15p/12r/4a level and is in the MIP conversation
  • Keon Ellis is a 90th percentile defender and 40% 3pt shooter
  • Bonus: Nolan Traore plays like a top 10 sophomore

it was a “development“ dream scenario. just to clarify

that is very fair.. i did not finish reading the title.. my bad. But my realistic dream scenario is basically a development scenario minus Randell because everyone else needs to develop parts of their games to get to that level.

What does MPJ need to develop for it? He deserved to be an AS last year

He's not gonna suddenly become a playmaker

Yes, he deserved to be in the running for AS last year but he (and the Nets) didn't do enough to ensure a spot. MPJ said it best himself:

“Yeah, of course. There’s always more to show. The main thing is winning. Who cares about putting up 20-plus points per game if you’re not winning? So I've got a lot more I want to show and prove. One of the big things is being a winning player in this role. I think we can win a lot of games with me being a focal point on offense. So we just gotta win, and it will take care of itself.”

imagine if randle gets third team and duren doesn’t lol detroit fans are going to mug him on the street

I don't think any of these are really that crazy most of them are quite possible

15/12/4 for sharpe?!? That's not realistic in my opinion

He's a good backup center level player

Possible.. yes but not realistic. Day'Ron Sharpe has averaged 24min, 11.2 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 21 games as a starter in his career.

I used those figures and the fact that he will be featured in the starting lineup and the offense may actually be designed for him to take advantage of his offensive rebounding superpower. If Jordi is able to get Day'Ron into positions where he's able to rebound and get the putback or make the pass. He could see an increase in his stats.

Fun Fact: Steven Adams had his best overall statistical season as a full-time starting center in 2017–18 with the Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging 13.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 32.7 minutes per game while shooting a career-high 62.9% from the field.

11 and 9 in only 24 minutes? That's pretty impressive although that is a small sample size

I can see him getting the rebound quite easily I'm just not sure about the points... I think he'll probably average around 12ppg highest could be 14

i don't think we need to trade MPJ if egor/traore take 2nd year leaps and mbj looks good. MPJ shooting gravity, especially at the 4 spot, really opens things up for everyone.

i like to envision a future crunch time lineup of traore/mbj/egor/mpj/randle or sharpe(if he actually develops a respectable 3)

That would be one of the worst defensive lineups in the league lol. Realistically we can’t play Nolan egor and Mikel together until they get stronger and better defensively.

all 3 (nolan, egor, MBJ) have long wingspans which help out massively on the defensive side. egor/nolan both look like they gain weight and strength in the offseason. so realistically, we can play all 3 together.

Agreed. I’m pretty sure they drafted Mikel with the hopes that he plays with Egor and one of Traore or Ben Saraf.

3

u/Beginning_Region_272 1d ago

yeah. egor has potential to be average or better. Nolan actually looked surprisingly good as a defender and Mikal should be a plus defender after his rookie year.

Saraf? You think Ben Saraf was on Marks' mind on draft day?

He's gonna be overseas soon in my opinion

Mikel is the truth tho

u/MyTeamsSuck99 1d ago

For nba athletes they’re all bad defenders. Guards in general are bad, that’s why you see jumbo lineups do much better. None of them are elite athletes or have much strength.

Like they’re all average to below average. When you play 3 of those guys you defense will be very bad.

Woah woah woah you're forgetting Traore randomly looked like bill Russell last yr

We would be trading MPJ for future draft capital (quality over quantity picks, and not in years we already have multiple picks.) If we don't get a good offer I'm fine keeping him all year and either resigning or sign-and-trading him next summer

u/CynSkep0 1d ago

I think Mikel has the mind of a playmaker. He’s gonna average between 5-7 assist. We gotta give him the best opportunity to grow. Throw him in the fire.

Not a bad scenario, finally trading Porter while developing the three best young players on the team.

I wouldn’t mind Brown and Egor being our Brooklyn Backcourt of the future though. I can see a scenario they develop together and Nolan is included with Porter in some crazy trade for a wing we can’t necessarily see at the moment.

Keep porter and Randle on development for the youths movement after this season we make it to the playoffs with them sure next season we will be a force by them all the old man go to watch history in the making and say we was like that

u/BabyLeVert 1d ago

Egor doesn’t have the bulk. He’s like a lean length but he can definitely play sf. We should see Traore, Mikal, Egor lineups quite often and I’m excited. Position less basketball is back

u/Spiritual_Product828 1d ago

I'm stoked for Ellis, Demin, Minott and MPJ "small ball" lineups with Traore or MBJ at point. Still decent NBA size overall

1

u/NedsBastard1 Day'Ron Sharpe 1d ago

My dream scenario:
1. Traore looks like a starting point guard and can play decent defense/attack the rack.

  • This allows Egor to slide to SG/SF.
2. Egor plays off the ball even better than he has last season and like an above average player or borderline all star.
3. Wolf, Saraf, Powell, and Clowney look like positive contributors.
  • Clowney was good at times, but often not. Couldn’t rebound for shit and not reliable offensively.
  • Wolf looked fine at times last year, like ass other times.
  • Powell and Saraf have the most to prove this year on the team I would say. Both at risk of getting cut if they can’t play at replacement level.
4. Randle and MPJ look like All-Stars.
5. Mikel learns a lot as a rookie and contributes positively.
  • Bonus points if he’s average or above average player.
6. Day’ron and Wagner both contribute positively and Nets win the rebound battle.
  • Bonus points if they contribute to offense.

Best case scenario is a lower end playoff appearance and a happy fan base.

Worst case scenario is that the younger players take a step back and it’s the MPJ/Randle show.

Disaster: Outside the Top 5 picks and young guys don’t improve.

u/Spiritual_Product828 1d ago

Okay but realistically, there's no way more than 3/5 of the Flatbush 5 are useful NBA players. 3/5 would actually be my realistic dream scenario

1

u/NedsBastard1 Day'Ron Sharpe 1d ago

Good point. It’s a dream though lmao

2

u/NedsBastard1 Day'Ron Sharpe 1d ago

Fuck that was longer than intended but I love the Nets man

1

u/Spiritual_Product828 1d ago

I agree w/ OP in general but this unit has a low defensive ceiling. We need Minott and Ellis to pop—prove the can be quality 25 mpg guys

1

u/Significant-Bath-727 21h ago

if traoure makes a huge step and egor continue to grow then i will be very happy. i want drake to have a huge jump from awful to average with great defense.

Props to you for not including anyone else in this dream other than Egor Mikel and Traore

Because the other prospects are either horrible (I.e. Saraf) or don't have needle moving potential (I.e. Wolfe)

Traore has rare qualities that give him upside - like his pace, PnR, speed downhill, off ball defense. a little floater would be his best friend. Maybe he can get in touch with his fellow Frenchman with the greatest floater of all time, Tony Parker, for some tips. Sean Marks, use the Spurs connection to set it up.
