Oh, wait, I had this too before I turned 18. However, that changed after my birthday – I got access to the newer models, and that thinking model was no longer available to me.

I'd say 3.8 is about the same as 3.7 and both are head and shoulders above 3.5/3.6 for conversations

People should be happy over this tbh especially if on plus plan. 3.8 is very comparable to a pro model way better than 3.1 pro the average person does not need anything else.

I agree! I tested both 3.8 Flash and 3.1 Pro in AI Studio a little while ago, and 3.1 isn’t even close to 3.8!

Yeah, tbh it is why i am not mad over the plan changes. If this was last year hell yeah i would be mad but flash models now are comparable to pro models only a few months old.
Like i imagine 4.0 flash should be approaching argon levels of good and for 5$ a month not bad we used to pay 20$ a month for something like that. 3.8 is like you said leagues better than 3.1 pro another model we used to pay 20$ a month for.
If flash continues at this pace for 5$ a month that’s all most people will ever need tbh.

Mhmm... I believe they’re trying to position the Flash models somewhere between the frontier models like Opus/Sol and the regular models like Sonnet/Luna.

Hopefully! They need to update the models to keep their existing users. 3.6 Flash is already an old and outdated model.

I’m still hoping that we’ll be able to use Free Flash 3.6 and Pro on the app and such. I’m trying not to be stressed about this but it’s really hard. I already sent Gemini feedback about this this morning about wanting to keep being about to use Flash 3.6 and Pro as free users so hopefully that works. I’ll keep praying just to be safe.

Do you really think your Gemini feedback will make them regret and not change course? Of course you're not gonna have pro and flash if you're a free user, then it will be flash lite. Google don't owe you anything.

I hope they include the Gemma family alongside the Flash & Flash Lite models. For most of my offline workflows, I prefer Gemma 4 26B to Gemini 3.5 Flash Lite.

This not a good idea imo unless they launch gemini 4 flash aswell. For me fast mode was removed from gemini 3.8 flash for some reason a week or so ago but it's still there for 3.6 flash and 3.7 flash. For others it's on all flash models so idk what they are doing. 3.8 flash feels really slow still and I thought it would get fixed soon but it's still way slower than what it used to be and fast mode has not returned even now.

Well, they’re going to make some major changes in the coming days! Free users are going to lose access to both Flash and Pro models, while Plus users will lose access to the Pro models. To make up for it, I think they’re going to release some new models (hopefully they do! 🤞).

Isn't that only for the gemini app? I'm on Google ai pro so I don't see how that's the reason fast mode disappeared only for 3.8 flash for me. Tho yeah seems like they might even release gemini 4 flash lite soon

It might be better but it uses up so much quota that it’s not worth using when 3.7 does most of what I want, I only give 3.8 a shot if 3.7 can’t get it right.
