Help State Agencies Located in Denver have incredibly low salaries for the COL here

My neighbor told me she makes 45k and has a master's degree, working for the state. I checked online at openings, and the pay is very low for the qualifications needed to apply. I don't think the benefits are worth making less than $50k in this economy. Do you work for the state? How much do you make, what agency? What work do you do?

Event Yesterday’s Porchfest was not what I expected.

Because I didn’t know it was happening…

I will probably get little support from this and definitely downvotes but my neighbors and I just want to be heard.

After speaking with my neighbors, we all had similar opinions on the matter. We could have been prepared and I wouldn’t be ranting right now if we had ANY idea that this huge (honestly very cool concept and looked like fun!) event was happening.
Myself and the people I’ve spoken to (5-6 households in the area) got no notice, no heads up, nothing. Which IMO is extremely disappointing as someone who has lived in this neighborhood for 10+ years.

The rest of this post is my personal experience. I ask you reading this to put yourself in my position at around 4:30 PM yesterday. This is a long one. Skip to the end to see my main point.

Yesterday during my 12 hour shift (sixth in a row and finally had the day off today) I kept getting notifications from my ring camera. I could see tons of people in the street and all thought was “wth is goin on?” My job is demanding so I did not have time to Google or search anything to figure it out. Thats on me, but I didn’t even consider something like this to be taking place without being aware beforehand, you know?

I get off work, exhausted and excited to go home and relax, only to get to my neighborhood to find half the streets closed (mine included, two houses on my street were hosting artists). And the rest congested with people. I understand right-of-way rules and to watch for peds (I live in Baker, often I’m a ped crossing the street, I get it). Four way stops took up to five minutes per car to get through.

But then a toddler literally ran his hand down the side of my car. It scared me FOR the kid. Like where are your parents! This part honestly set me off because what if I accidentally hurt someone because I couldn’t see them? It could’ve happened to anyone. My stomach sank after that.

There was no possible way I was parking on my street or even several blocks away. I gave up trying and went to a friend’s across town. Problem solved. Frustration relieved.

TLDR; Porchfest and your organizers, please take us into consideration for next year. That’s all we ask. (I have reached out via email already.) Next year I’d love to attend, and would have this year if I could have!

I don’t mean to make this just about me, I am one of many who had this experience. This neighborhood is very well loved and I’m lucky to live here. BUT several of my neighbors were extremely frustrated as well, one even angry to the point of needing to be calmed down. Some are elderly and were upset they couldn’t prepare for the people and noise. We just ask to be informed next year.

If you stuck around and read all of this, thank you. It’s appreciated. I know it’s going to be an unpopular opinion and I expect backlash but I hope I can get some understanding of my POV.

EDIT some people ITT telling me I wasn’t notified. I wasn’t. I check my mailbox everyday and I’ve only ever gotten political fliers or ads taped to my door. Other people also saying they weren’t notified either. Why would any of us make this up. Why would I spend my time writing this otherwise?

Edit again. Just combed my email and there’s nothing there either. And to clarify it wasn’t just me that didn’t know about Porchfest. As my post says, several of my neighbors didn’t either. But now I’m the neighborhood wet blanket. Got it.

Last night, this lady wearing an old Manning jersey as a skirt came down Evans over Santa Fe and pulled off on Platte River Dr on a Veo bike with what looked like 4 or 5 delivery orders while I was waiting at the stoplight. She got off the bike and spent a solid 30 seconds or more taking pictures of the bike and bags hanging off it.

Really weird stuff. My wife and I were cracking up the whole time.

Does anyone recognize this female shephard pitbull mix? Found her hiding behind a veo bike near S Federal last night. Tried to keep her in the gate until morning to take her to see if she had a chip, but she jumped the fence. Very stressed but sweet once she starts to gain trust. She came back again tonight for food and took off quickly after. I cant get close enough to put a collar on her and put her in my car. Animal control is no help.

Help Wash park girl are you okay?

A friend and I were at wash park today on the north side by the volunteers for outdoor Colorado building. We saw this girl pacing back and forth in a straight line going about 50 yards each direction. She did it for hours and looked like she’d been out there for a long time. Just wondering if anyone knew her or if she was okay we tried to ask what she was doing but she didn’t respond.

City Services I made a directory of all 119 Colorado public lands, shows camping rules, fire restrictions, and closures for each

Thumbnail publiclandsdb.com
93 Upvotes

Hey y'all,

For the last few months I've been chipping away at something for Colorado: a single place to actually see what's public land, who manages it, and what you can do there.

I finally got it live and wanted to share. It's called publiclandsdb.com/co, and the point is simple. 36.3% of Colorado is federal land, but figuring out if a spot is Forest Service, BLM, a state park, NPS, or wilderness (and whether you can camp or if there's a fire ban) usually means digging through five different agency websites.

Here's what it covers:

  • All 119 public land units in Colorado, 42 state parks, 8 national forests, 5 BLM conservation areas/monuments, 12 National Park Service units, 8 national wildlife refuges, 44 wilderness areas
  • An interactive map with all of it, filterable by managing agency
  • For each spot: whether dispersed camping is allowed, current fire restrictions/closures, how to get there, nearby land, and photos
  • A camping breakdown so you know where you can actually pull off and set up for free vs. where you need a developed campground vs. where you can't

I started building stuff like this because I kept getting burned trying to figure out on the fly whether a forest or BLM area allowed camping or had a stage 1/2 fire restriction active. So I built the thing I wanted to exist.

It's just me working on this on the side, no team.

Would love for you to poke around and tell me what's missing or wrong. If there's a spot near you that's not accurate or a feature you wish it had, I'm all ears.

I am planning on expanding coverage (CPW wildlife areas, more campground detail, dams and reservoir historical levels) and whatever else is helpful.

Let me know if you have anything you would like to be added!

Help I just got a bike from bear trail bikes. It was in the news and I figure some people are curious.

TLDR at the end.

Quite a few months to over a year ago I saw an ad. $50 e-bike. For months I saw this ad. Seemed very scammy and I had no particular need for a bike so I never bothered with it.

The company was called bear trail bikes. I saw it all the time on my social media scrolling. Then I saw it in the news. Fraudulent company, scam, investigations and so on. Then shut down.

I saw nothing for months.

About a week ago I start seeing ads from them again. Only now. The bikes are $99.

I live fairly close to my job. I live within a couple miles of my son’s school. We could both use this thing. There’s no way to get a decent bike for $100 unless you get lucky on FB marketplace or a thrift store. Gas is crazy high so I filled out the application

Just a name and email if I recall. I’m not shilling I swear.

Friday I get an email. Basically said” you can come pick up your bike at some random ass corner in Littleton, look for a U-Haul in this spot on Saturday at X time”.

I work double shifts on Saturday so I asked my mother to go. I told my 15 yr old to go with her so she doesn’t get scammed lol. I told her to FaceTime me when they arrive so I can kinda be there for the process.

Well, they went. I had to text my ID to them(for the tax credit purposes for the company because it was my reservation). But they got the bike.

WOW! The company is definitely doing some shady shit and it’s probably bulk shit from temu. But that’s FANTASTIC!

It’s a basic e-bike. You do have to put it together but all the hard parts are done. Front wheel, pedals, handlebars, seat and battery.

For $100 dollars. This is the best bike I’ve had. I was super into bikes for like a decade as a youngster. Time will tell if it holds up but it’s very sturdy. Seems like stainless steel body so it’s heavy. The battery comes off easily(for preventing theft) and has a key to lock in place during use.

Not super fast but you don’t have to pedal if you don’t want. Except up a steep hill but it’s still very easy.

TLDR: great bike for the price even though it’s probably Temu resales and the owner may go to prison over it at some point.

I only bought it because of the price. If I was in the market for something like this. I don’t see $500 being unreasonable for what they are giving you.

I have no affiliation I swear. I was telling coworkers today and one said she had friends who have been waiting over a year since signing up. They have stock. Get it while you can!

Recommendation I’m looking for arcades in the Denver area where you pay one price to get in and have unlimited play while you’re there.

I went to a place out of state like that. I finally was able to beat Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles because all the machines were set to free play. Looking for something like that.

Old Denver A Love Letter/Review of Butcher Block Cafe

• Upvotes

Butcher Block Cafe, a one story building, stands tall amongst the soulless sky-high apartment buildings, as a bastion of what RiNo once was. A working man's truck stop diner, where the common person came to eat before heading off to work at the Pepsi bottling plant, to deliver goods, create art, and repair automobiles. Butcher Block remains, unwavering against the new developments. Serving an average meal at about $1–2 less than the surrounding restaurants that attract you with bells and whistles like AI “art”, QR codes, bright white LED lights, and $18 “craft” burgers served on an aluminum tray.

$8.50 for 2 eggs, a boatload of hash browns, and 2 pieces of buttered toast with jelly. Simple, cheap, and delicious. These dishes increase in value when you speak to the lovely staff who greet you at your table. You may even have the luck of being pleasantly greeted by one of the unassuming Michel brothers, the co-owner of the cafe.

As a Denver born and raised 20-something-year-old, I enter Butcher Block and feel like I get transported back in time. To a time before our favorite buildings were bought and gutted, a time before the city began to attract so many, including the money of the developers. A time before everything was owned by private equity. The cafe preserves old traditions. Some may call it outdated, some may want to streamline it, but it continues on. One being having to get up and cash out at the register, for some a hassle, for me an opportunity to talk to one of the sisters who’ve been working there for 15+ years. Gentrification is a tale as old as time, we just have a fancy word for it now. It’s happened and continues to happen in our great cities…San Francisco, Philadelphia, and New York. Despite the new developments, Butcher Block stays true to its character, its walls plastered with old regalia, an order wheel, art done by what one would assume is an employee's granddaughter, and seats that resemble a diner from the '90s, now only seen in old movies.

I love you butcher block, please never change.

Recommendation Recommendations for Dog Rescues

Hi all! As the title suggests, I’m looking for dog rescues that any of you have worked with and had good experiences with! My soul dog (also a rescue) recently passed and while I’m not looking immediately, I do know that we will likely be looking to rescue at the beginning of next year. I’d love to hear any experiences that you’ve had with dog rescues out here (my rescue was from Vegas so not familiar with any here) and who you would recommend. Definitely willing to attend adoption events as well (I know a lot of breweries host these), but mostly just trying to get a grasp on certain rescues that people would recommend for now.

We definitely want a rescue that tests with cats as we have two. We’re located in the Lone Tree area, but obviously would be open to traveling further away to support a great rescue and find our new family member.

Thank you for any suggestions!!! We really appreciate it ❤️
