At this point it's so fucking obvious, I'm beginning to think that he's actually playing dumb and acting like he's trying to hide a secret that got away just to add more fuel to the fire. Ain't no way Adria would be so openly vocal about her training regimen if James hadn't explicitly instructed her to be vocal about it, but subtle, in order to fuel speculation.

I also think it is a way to temper expectations. Remember how hyped everyone got for the Peacemaker S2 cameos? Gunn thought having Guy, Lex and the mustachioed henchman were cool cameos to tease but some fans went and got themselves hyped thinking it would be some big Superman and Justice Gang thing that a few were bitter about it after they watched it.
Even if Wonder Woman is in it it might be just a scene or small cameo like Peacemaker in Superman (2025)

Ok yeah with him directly addressing it and not saying “she is not playing Wonder Woman” it’s obvious she is. He’s come out to discredit other casting rumors before, like that Batman was cast

There is no other female character in DC that would need this much secrecy, outside members of the Batfamily, and that's only cause it would imply Batman is in the movie, or Jessica Cruz, but that's only cause it would have to spoil the ending of Lanterns, which would suck to just introduce her last minute.

Every time she's asked about the role she gets giddy and says she can't talk about the role. No one would be doing that for a character like Maxima. She's definitely Wonder Woman.

to me this seems like damage control to try and mitigate anymore talk of this but considering he's also not ruling out or debunking adria as WW and pointing her out specifically could be a way of gunn trying to reroute the smoke before the fire starts

Grillo posted a fanmade image he found and because one of the portraits in it was Adria as WW, ppl assumed he basically confirmed instead of considering that he was simply resharing some art he liked which happened to feature him in it

Hypothetically: if she IS Wonder Woman, is there some legal/practical reason that he can't say "she is not Wonder Woman"?
Like I assume people would be temporarily annoyed when they found out he lied, and folks might take him shutting down rumors less seriously. But if he really wants it to be a surprise, is that not worth it?

They tryna make it a "surprise" like what Marvel Studios did with Sadie Sink Jean but we all know it's both the worst kept secret in superhero film history.
At least Sadie was playful by dodging every questions in every interview and kept her role vague to the point you actually have second thoughts, but Adria last month was out there basically confirming it.
I read somewhere saying, "A lot of people/casuals don't really like look into inside rumors" so that might be the reason why. It worked for Jean, they think it will work for them.

But I really hate learning about every single dumbass rumor started by someone following an instagram page or sharing a picture. Then followed by Gunn saying it’s not true. I’d really love if there was a way I could not see those specific posts.

What might be interesting to consider in terms of who Adria’s playing is who else was considered or rumored for this role.
In the report about the casting for this specific role, Adria was mentioned alongside Eva De Dominici (another popular Wonder Woman pick), Sydney Chandler (who’s playing Nosferata on Creature Commandos season 2) and Grace Van Patten.
Not sure if that gives an idea of who this character could be, whether she’s Wonder Woman or otherwise.
