Johnny card, esp without support. It's neat, but too many things need to line up for it do do anything.

38

u/Apolloshot 10d ago

Johnny card except when generated by Al’akir

This card is going to win games, but not because the player chose to put it in their deck haha.

13

u/hjyboy1218 10d ago

Two 10-cost Hunter cards I can remember are Zul'Jin and Emeriss. This seems like an Emeriss.

3

u/Diosdepatronis 10d ago

Is there a way for this not to cost a billion mana?

21

u/Catopuma 10d ago

M.O.T.H.E.R, the 3 mana Hunter card that chooses 1 card in your hand to discount by 1 each turn.

16

u/sneakyxxrocket 10d ago

Pulling Agamaggan from king of the underbelly means you can play this on 7

4

u/Rhaps0dy 10d ago

Which also gives you another body for the effect.

3

u/TheGingerNinga 10d ago

10 to enemy hero plus at least one instance of 8 to random enemy. Doesn’t feel great for a double legendary combo but might not be unusable. Especially if the meta slows down hard, Hunter has had successful slow archetypes that build to massive burst.

4

u/EyeCantBreathe 10d ago

Hunter can discount nzoth pretty easily, I could imagine a combo like 0 mana nzoth + summon 4 + agam + kronn. If they have a board then you can use the 2 damage aoe and double trigger abilities to clear the board first. If you wanted to get extremely greedy then add mother and deios, but at that point you're kinda just a worse drake warlock.

They stated there's no outright support for this card in this set (so why even print it here), so any experimentation with this might just be a pipe dream.

1

u/sneakyxxrocket 10d ago

How I feel about this card entirely depends on rest of the hunter set being the best they’ve gotten this year which I am not anticipating because Hunter is currently gutted after tolvir nerf.

1

u/Diosdepatronis 10d ago

That sounds like the most promising combo

3

u/blanquettedetigre 10d ago

And, not to be underestimated, Aggamagan inside the Rat

3

u/TomTheScouser 10d ago

Hunter is gonna be a really good N'zoth discounter. If your board is empty you can go N'zoth, summon 4, proc some cool DR twice, Agamaggan (from the 6 mana rat) and then Kronn. Could be a whole lot of damage. Sounds pie in the sky but remember the Briarspawn Drake Hunter from a few patches ago that was doing similar with Agamaggan.

1

u/athlonstuff 10d ago

if the random enemy dies during the battle cry, is the rest of the damage wasted? If a 4 health enemy gets hit by a minion with 4 attack, and you have other minions on the board, does that damage then go somewhere else?

2

u/yosoyelsteve 10d ago

I believe random damage hits calculate "death" after each hit. You can overkill a minion (say 8 attack into a 4 health), but if the 4 health takes 4, it won't also get hit by another attack. It will go to a different minion or face.

Edit: Oh, I get it. I believe each minion does its damage to a random enemy, not all to the same one. Kind of like "Hysteria".

1

u/SnooMarzipans7274 10d ago

If there’s a
Reason to run tolvir carver it’s for this. We also have mother and agammagan. This is something I’m looking forward to experimenting with.

Tinker || 2-Mana || Rare Hunter Spell

Assemble a Mech. Get an 'Overdrive'.

7

u/Glarbleglorbo 10d ago

The power disparity between some of these assemble cards is crazy, Druid gets a 2/3 body with theirs and Hunter gets an overdrive?

Every card values assemble differently, It’s like the devs don’t know how strong the mechanic is either.

12

u/MrRighto 10d ago

Druid/Neutral Beasts and Hunter/Neutral Mechs are totally different pools though, so assemble is probably very different in power level on each of these cards

2

u/Goldendragon55 10d ago

Plus who knows what sort of curated pools are available or whether the formatting on minions is better for beasts or mechs. I think mechs might just be stronger in terms of effects that you can retrigger.

2

u/PipAntarctic 10d ago

As with the other Assemble cards it is hard to tell how good assembling actually is, but 2 mana for maybe a benefit feels very optimistic.

All of the other Assemble cards are guaranteed to either give you some tempo (they're on a body) or give you something extra in return for losing tempo (think reducing cost or buffing stats). Here you're completely relying on either having cards in deck that can use the Overdrive, or your creation being useful with it.

Not a fan.

10

u/EvilDave219 10d ago

Bombardment || 5-Mana || Rare Hunter Spell

Destroy a random enemy minion and deal 3 damage to the enemy hero. If you control a Mech, do it again.

Fire

12

u/PipAntarctic 10d ago

Devs are clearly pushing a midrange N'Zoth Mech deck for Hunter and this sort of suits that gameplan well. Aggressive when you're ahead, potentially helpful when behind. The only issue is that Bombardment kinda sucks against boards that go wide.

So it needs the meta to slow down across the board or popular decks to be going mostly tall. Otherwise this is just too unreliable for 5 mana.

3

u/Glarbleglorbo 10d ago

Extremely good and curves off the 4 mana deathrattle minion, gives a way to clear board while pushing face. Not bad off curve either.

It’s similar to furious fowls but a little more conditional for a much higher return.

Mimiron || 1-Mana 2/1 || Legendary Hunter Minion

Battlecry: If you control a Mech, Discover the perfect tech card.

16

u/PipAntarctic 10d ago

You do need enough mechs for this to be consistent, but I'm going to go with a bold prediction and say that you're always going to get at least one good choice in a given situation, so the card is worth it in Mech decks.

From the stream we do know that it has cards from Wild and Standard in the pool, so I'd imagine the biggest issue Mimiron could have is just being wonky in terms of overvaluing certain cards (an issue that is plaguing Zephrys in Wild right now).

1

u/Glarbleglorbo 10d ago

A little inconsistent to get active but it’s a good build around legendary, bloodlust and silences in the right situations are premium in hunter.

I could see aggro hunter making a return with this mech package.

9

u/sneakyxxrocket 10d ago

This says “the perfect tech card” so I doubt bloodlust in something you can discover with this

8

u/EvilDave219 10d ago

Mechacycle || 4-Mana 3/3 || Common Hunter Minion

Taunt. Deathrattle: Summon 4 Mana worth of random Mechs.

Mech

10

u/sneakyxxrocket 10d ago

They really do need to cool it with cards that summons random costs of minions

4

u/Monk-Ey 10d ago

At the very least this doesn't just summon an X-mana minion all the time, though that hardly makes it more palatable.

1

u/GothaV2 10d ago

Yeah, it feels like this year they've forgotten the lessons learned from cards like Piloted Shredder back in the day lol.
Having some random minions is cool, but half of these could have had a X/X + some key word token and it would've been healthier and probably stronger from a consistency POV on some classes.

3

u/Glarbleglorbo 10d ago

a more defensive version of twisted frostwing and that card was really good, good activator for mimiron and if aggro hunter comes back around it’ll be good there.

7

u/EvilDave219 10d ago

Tank Regiment || 6-Mana 3/3 || Rare Hunter Minion

Battlecry: Summon two copies of this. Deathrattle: Deal 3 damage to a random enemy.

Mech

9

u/Glarbleglorbo 10d ago

Good top end for an aggro hunter deck, it’s just a lot of damage.

Nzoth Hunter might be ok as well, but it feels like Hunter gets outvalued by everyone else if they try to go late this expansion.

6

u/EvilDave219 10d ago

Unstable Prototype || 1-Mana 0/1 || Rare Neutral Minion

Reborn. Deathrattle: Give all minions in your hand +1/+1.

Mech

5

u/PipAntarctic 10d ago

Really good handbuff value for 1 mana, but how do any of the decks that want to handbuff in this expansion use it?

How does DK kill this without losing value? Druid is forced into using buffs or worse, removal, to get at least one use. Does Hunter even care? This card is genuinely good handbuff value but is so sketchy to use that I can see a world where it's left out.

6

u/Diosdepatronis 10d ago

That's a ton of power in one card and 1 mana. Yeah, of course you'll need to enable it but you'll probably be playing other buffs already. The fact that this is tutorable with eggbearer could be nice too.

1

u/SnooMarzipans7274 10d ago

I was thinking that a lot of board clears and sustain was getting added so I wasn’t sure how fast deck would have presence but this card is great nudge in early power for those decks. As long as you can reliably pop the dr.

2

u/Solithic 10d ago

This seems... really good? It's nice in the sense that in a handbuff deck, this will get buffed in hand so you can trade off the front half when not played early. Also pretty happy playing this on 1. In DK there are lots of ways to take advantage of minions left on board, and this is 2 corpses for 1 which is premium. People will probably often ignore this unlike egg. Outside of DK, maybe this finds a home as N'Zoth fodder.

1

u/GothaV2 10d ago

Imo that one is a sleeper for the post rotation year to come. There's so many ways of using that that aggro or midrange could use. Even more if they add more mech synergies down the way.

5

u/EvilDave219 10d ago

Clockwork Boars || 2-Mana || Common Hunter Minion

Summon two 1/1 Mech Beasts with Charge.

9

u/Solithic 10d ago

(This is a Spell)

8

u/thirtychirps 10d ago

This plus the new neutral [[Vaultkeeper]] card with an overdrive on the Vaultkeeper seems like a pretty sweet 7 mana combo from hand.

5 damage rush into something with at least 3 attack, get two 5/5s with charge to go face.

(If the link doesn’t work for the new card, Vaultkeeper is a 5 mana 3/3 mech with battlecry and deathrattle, give adjacent minions +2/+2. With overdrive ya give it rush so it can die right away and give these two chargers +4/+4)

The good thing about this combo is all the pieces can still be useful in other game states, they don’t have to be used together like this.

3

u/Glarbleglorbo 10d ago

Pretty bad on its own so you are relying on its synergy with overdrive to make it work.

I think the synergy is very real and can replace Tolvir as Hunter’s burn/finsher strategy.

4

u/EvilDave219 10d ago

Vaultkeeper || 5-Mana 3/3 || Common Neutral Minion

Battlecry and Deathrattle: Give adjacent minions +2/+2.

Mech

14

u/thirtychirps 10d ago

Overdrive makes this card “rush, 5/3, give adjacent minions +4/+4” and suddenly it’s quite spicy.

5

u/Glarbleglorbo 10d ago

Slightly better fungalmancer this many years later, yeah no.

5

u/EvilDave219 10d ago

Flamespitter || 3-Mana 2/2 || Common Hunter Weapon

After your hero attacks, get an 'Overdrive'.

3

u/PipAntarctic 10d ago

I'm not seeing enough enticing Deathrattle mechs to be worth the massive tempo loss of playing a 3 mana 2/2 weapon. The closest useful card to combine with this is really the 0/1 handbuff Mech, but you're still facing the obvious issue of playing a 3 mana 2/2 weapon.

3

u/Glarbleglorbo 10d ago

Overdrives are just a bad version of DH stingers, like this is just the 3 mana 2/2 DH stinger weapon.

5

u/IAmYourFath 10d ago

The stinger costs infinitely more mana than an overdrive

1

u/thirtychirps 10d ago

Kinda a 3 mana 4/2 if ya have enough mechs in your deck, with the added benefit of giving mechs rush.

1

u/Monk-Ey 10d ago

Wild thought:

Overdrives on Adaptive Amalgam help push more damage and kill it off to dodge silences/poofs/transforms: you'd need to fish it out every time, that being said, and I believe most lists focus on OTK'ing with it, so it's mostly good for being cheap buffs.

4

u/EvilDave219 10d ago

Reload || 8-Mana || Epic Hunter Spell

Discover a spell and reduce its Cost by (8). Repeat this with excess Cost reduction.

Arcane

12

u/Glarbleglorbo 10d ago

Seems really bad, the dev that compared to fyrakk ticked me off quite a bit since this doesn’t come with a body and casts way less mana worth of spells.

Maybe it’s a finisher but I doubt it, Hunter spells kind of suck late game. feels like there’s way better ways to burn down the opponent.

4

u/mooocow 10d ago edited 5d ago

Maybe the finisher is to discover 4 Precise Shots and deal 16-20 to your opponent. (This is never going to happen).

Also, agreed with the bad Fryakk comparison by the dev. Fryakk gives you 15 mana of stuff for 10 mana/8 mana with Naralex. Sure, you can get potentially get 15-mana worth of spells with Reload. But you're still paying 15-mana to cast those spells...

Thief Rogue or Thief Priest will probably get more use out of this when they RNG into it.

4

u/sneakyxxrocket 10d ago

This seems more like a mage card than a hunter one

3

u/thirtychirps 10d ago

I love this card. It’s an 8 mana “discover your turn”. If the two spells costs sum to a total of 8 or less, you can play both of em that turn.

So unlike all other 8 cost cards, that have the problem of “it’s all you can play this turn! So it’s bad”, it’s sort of like you’re Preparing 2 random discovered spells, but unlike prepare you’re allowed to play em right away.

Too bad hunter has a lot of crap spells lol.

2

u/GothaV2 10d ago

Arena King that is never used otherwise

4

u/EvilDave219 10d ago

OC91 Chariot || 5-Mana 5/5 || Common Neutral Minion

After you play a minion, draw a card.

Mech

10

u/Glarbleglorbo 10d ago

Another absolute dogshit card released specifically for assemble.

1

u/GothaV2 10d ago

Assemble better has to flip the metagame on it's head, because they've actually used so many card slots to enable it lol

3

u/PipAntarctic 10d ago

Playing minions is much harder than casting spells. The only deck even remotely interested in this text box would be Zee Shaman, but at 5 mana you're looking at a very slow to get going refill (assuming you didn't already play your Witches' Apprentices too). Don't think this makes the cut in Standard without a way to discount this.
