This was our first, minimalist physical release 🥹😊

Do you remember our first physical and minimalist release? It was Tower of Rubble on a 5.25" floppy disk 💾

We were very proud and excited back then. 😊 A few years have passed since then, and today our physical releases for the C64 and Amiga look completely different and much more professional.

If you haven't seen them yet, be sure to check them out! 💾🕹️

Found this old commodore printer in eWaste. It's not typical to find something like this anymore, however, there seems to be someone around here who is regularly unloading 8 bit stuff. I recovered a practically unused Apple IIgs system last month!

As you can see, it's pretty dirty and dusty and probably hasn't been plugged in for decades. What are the chances of getting it working again? If so, are printer ink cartridges even available? The serial ports in the back seem to be commodore standard DIN cables. Can I use a standard MIDI cable or do I need to find a commodore specific one? Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Commodore plus 4 fuzz bar

Post image

It's not very noticeable on this screen, but when some games it's very noticeable. It's a fuzzy bar that rolls upwards slowly looping around.

Is this common on +4 computers? Is it noise from the environment?

Chase HQ 2

Another Redditor this week recommended Chase HQ 2 and it’s a really good game, possibly one of the best driving games on the C64. I had to look for a cart for it as I don’t think it came out on cassette, as a Brit we didn’t have many games on cartridge so this was a first for me! I’m pleased to announce the C64U handled the task beautifully.

Commodore 128 ROMs

Hi. I'm looking for someone in the UK that can burn a couple of ROMs for my Commodore 128. I need the character ROM (390059-01) that fits into U18 and the Kernel /Editor ROM (318020-05) that fits into U35. I can supply the bin images but I don't have the ability to burn my own ROMs.

Thanks

Any memories of these 8-bit arcade ports?

Outrun for the Commodore 64, midnight resistance for the ZX spectrum, special criminal investigations for the master system, all picked up recently. I have never played any of these three games on these systems, any memories?

If you ordered expedited shipping, your unit will arrive at a worldwide depot within 2 weeks by air. Standard shipping orders are on track to land on doorsteps in November. We know you've been waiting for this moment, and we couldn't be more excited to get these beautiful machines into your hands. The future you were promised is nearly home."

PETSCII game sound generator

Just started mucking around learning to use SID doing some very basic sound experiments aiming to find a unique sonic game vibe, by actually using PETSCII characters to help make music/effects in the C64 polychrome 3D game engine. A little bit like how used PETSCII to not so obviously make the polychrome detail maps....

Anyways, a bit basic to start, but from small PETSCII acorn hopefully grows a big PETSCII oak in a coming months.

Caves games, side scrolling, for the VIC-20 ported from a TI-85

This is my new series of games for the VIC-20. Side scrolling, where you search for a scroll to warp to the next level while battling monsters.

The VIC-20 was the first computer that I ever used. It's quite a capable machine especially with expanding the memory.

I even ported the game to JavaScript for laptop browsers (it doesn't work on phones):

I analyzed MERCENARY and discovered an exploit bug at the start of the game

MERCENARY is my favourite C64 game ever. I reverse engineered it and discovered a bug: right from the start of the game, if you take 100 paces north-west, there is an invisible patch of grass that bugs out and thinks it's an elevator inside the Colony Craft, high in the sky above you.

Check out the interactive site: https://gamesexplained.com/c64/mercenary/

I haven't seen this documented anywhere before, so it might be a new discovery! The bible for stuff like this is The Mercenary Site, http://mercenarysite.free.fr/ - given it's not listed there, I think it might be novel.

(If you're interested in breakdowns like this, I've open sourced everything - check the front page of the site.)

Out of curiosity, where do you all get your non original games?

I got one of these nifty if a little dubious pre-loaded usb sticks and it's got some great stuff, some of the roms are a little glitchy...wondering if there are cleaner ones to buy or "borrow" out there?

C64 Ultimate - connecting to CRT TV via S-video

Does the C64 ultimate output display resolutions that would allow it connect to my standard defintion CRT TV (240p/480i). I see on the website they sell s-video cables/adapters, but it's still not clear to me if this is a good setup option. Trying to figure this out before I buy it.

A Longshot

Trying to see if I can find a demo I used to have on floppy.

All it was is a static well drawn and detailed picture of a handgun that would display while the SID played Queen - Another one bites the dust.

Thats all it did. I used to leave it running for ages. Unfortunately over the years I misplaced the floppy it was on.

Quite a long shot. Probably bit the dust and is long gone from the world.

I've been through the demos on csdb.dk looking at the demos using SIDs of the song and most of them by Ratt and Jazzy cat are not the same tune.

This one however is the tune I'm after: https://csdb.dk/release/?id=35098

But it's a German demo so I don't know who the credit with that tune. I think csdb.dk has miss labeled that demo as using the same SID as the others, which it isn't.

Does anyone recognize this football game from the short clip below?
