Weekly 'No Stupid Questions' & Free-For-All Thread : October 04, 2026
In this weekly post you can ask any question or talk about any topic that you don't feel needs its own post. Share that render you're still working on, ask a question you're not quite sure about or talk about something that caught your attention.

Automotive full CGI project created in Cinema 4D + Redshift
Hi everyone! I wanted to share one of my latest automotive CGI projects, created in Cinema 4D and rendered with Redshift.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback, especially on the lighting and overall look.

Question For commercial product motion design, do you receive CMF sheets for creating materials in redshift?
I mostly do stylized work and am unaware of how consumer product motion pieces & stills for official/commercial use are done in C4D.
Is there a standard professional approach to this?

Some cozy renders I did recently with C4D and Redshift.😐
I did some cozy night time renders with Cinema 4D and Redshift renderer. I modeled the house in C4D and used Substance Painter for texturing. Enjoy!

Unsolved Adding delay effector/jiggle to a vibrate tag?
I thought this would be simple but I’m abit stuck, I have an object housed inside of a null object which I’m shaking with the vibrate tag, I’m keyframing the shaking on and off but I want to add essentially a jiggle deformation so it doesn’t just abruptly stop shaking and has some of that delay/jiggle falloff to it.
Can I do this with the vibrate tag or do I need to add a jiggle deformer to every object inside my null?

Question Balance/Euler's disk motion effect
Does anyone know how to recreate this workflow in C4D? I thought it could be done using effectors or Xpresso, but it doesn't seem that straightforward, and I can't find any tutorials replicating this effect

All I ask for is Dual licenses for Redshift and Cinema 4D
As much as I love Cinema 4D and Redshift, I still have some problems with how Maxon does it’s subscription business. With the rise of MCP in 3D softwares and Ai everywhere now, I really feel this should be the time for Maxon to open up a possibility for a dual license inside their Maxon One subscription. I can’t be the only one being annoyed of having to render something in Redshift, but then not being able to work on another project simultaneously on another computer. For this reason only, I am now about to move to Blender, as I believe the step towards learning a new software now with the help of MCP is a lot easier to do.. Anyone else feeling the same way?

Question Freelance advice
Looking for some advice from fellow freelancers…
I started freelancing in April as a 3D and motion designer after six years working in design agencies and in-house. It started off really well. I had lots of jobs for the first three months and was making good money. Summer was quiet, which was to be expected I think. I was also traveling a lot.
I haven’t worked since August, and I have about five or six recruiters who are helping me. I get sent potential jobs by them at least once a week, and they put me forward for them, but the past five jobs have fallen through, either because the client chose another candidate that they put forward or the need for a freelancer was gone.
I know that the first year of freelancing is the toughest, and I want to stick it out at least until next April, but I’m starting to get really worried. I’m running low on money, and I really don’t know what to do. I’ve reached out to more recruiters, friends of friends in the industry, reached out to clients directly offering my services, but no luck at the moment. I had three jobs fall through in the past week.
Does anyone have any advice or is experiencing the same thing? I know freelance can be inconsistent, and sometimes you have a lot of work and other times nothing, but I can’t help but feel like this isn’t working anymore.

How to make a spline offset itself from geometry by some unit
I am trying to create an animation where a shape acts almost like a rubber band around a geometry but slides over the object from, let's say, -100 on the x-axis to +100 on the x-axis. It seems like it would make sense for the rubber band object to be a spline and a rectangle under a Sweep, but I can't figure out how to make the spline shape be offset from the object (so there's a little space between the geometry that it's bounding and the rubber band itself) by an amount that I can control. Anyone have ideas or pointers for any tutorials I might follow? I have done some searching already, but haven't found anything that has led me to success yet. Assume the geometric object is not uniform; not a simple circle, square, or other primitive. TIA for any help.

Unsolved Does anyone knows how to fix this? Without retopology
I have a really problematic mesh, but when I apply a clear glass shader, doesn't look clean, I know it's because of the mesh, but i'm new in C4D, and this problem didn't happend in arnold maya

Dont be scared about MCP taking your creativity away. It simply just cant
yea people, MCPs are just not made to take our jobs. Dont believe stuff you see on instagram or tiktok. Its mostly either a total random good result or its a straight up lie.
MCPs and AI can be useful to enhance your workflow or speed up annoying tasks. But AI will always fail to create stuff. I prompted the image, I gave it this reference (tbh also AI generated but it really isnt that complex) and it completly failed. Opus 5.5 High just in case people want to know.

Any ideas what’s causing this glitch on render export?
Hey all,
I’ve just been doing some product renders using a file I’ve used for years. The only thing I ever change is the label of the product. I did a batch of 10 but one of them in particular, when I would save the render it would have this weird glitch over it. This is only shown when I view the image through Windows or in Photoshop. The top image is how it looks in the render export window before I save it. What’s interesting is the colour on the bottom image, to the left, is actually closer to the actual colour, the top one that’s in the render preview is way too dark.
I don’t have all the settings to hand at the moment but I’ve tried saving as multiple file formats, always at 300dpi and always using RedShift. Never had this issue before doing these sorts of renders for years so any help would be much appreciated!

Question How to achieve the following texture in redshift?
Hi guys,
Just wondering how you could achieve the following texture? Specifically the metallic blotches.
I have been using a material blender with the base colour as the plastic and then the metal as the other layer with a noise as the blending colour but the mixing is too sharp with clean differences when I up the contrast on the noise.

Question Tube on a coil?
I'm wondering what is the best way to create this is (orange tube)?
I've tried to use a Sweep and a Helix but it only has one tube 'thinkness', how would I create the multiple amounts (depth) as a single tube?
Any help would be really helpful.

r26 sweep nurb popping out of place when trying to capture simulation pose
Hey guys, I'm simulating a necklace in R26, and I keep running into this problem. These Sweep NURBS don't seem to be updating their XYZ coordinates in simulation and they keep popping back into their pre-sim state whenever I use the command "Current State to Object". Cache is clear, and I already tried clearing and setting initial states; whatever that does.
Making them editable seems to work, but I'd really rather maintain control over the sweep splines, because having to SubD them is going to shrink the mesh a fair bit, and bumping their polys is kinda messing up the dynamics.
