Other so I installed ChatGPT on CarPlay in my car.... works great... too great... because it remained silent and listened to EVERYTHING my friend and I said during the 2-hour drive.

I only use ChatGPT in the browser on my desktop computer.

Last week, I got bored and installed ChatGPT app on my iPhone. When I got into my car, it also showed up in CarPlay(obviously).

Played around for a while and everything worked great. Much better than I expected.

Then I went on a 2-hour drive with a friend to visit another friend. When I started driving, I asked ChatGPT for weather and other random stuff. Forgot that it was still on. During the drive, my friend and I chatted about random stuff. Music was playing on CarPlay.

When we were about 10 minutes away from the destination, I asked my friend "are you hungry? maybe we need to find a place to have lunch before we get to Tom's place? I wonder if they have good barbecue place there?"

We were both startled when ChatGPT suddenly started talking... it said "checking.... yes, there are several recommended barbecue restaurants in __________, would you like me to list them?" I responded yes and it started telling us restaurant names...

Is it supposed to do that? Does that me it was mean it was listening to everything we said in the car during those 2 hours? I figured that it would stop listening after a few minutes after I stopped asking questions... guess not?

Not a fan of this honestly. I hope that chat won’t draw from usage.

Edit: they also want to get rid of the model picker and reasoning toggle. Which also sucks.

Educational Purpose Only I asked ChatGPT about transporting a pigeon loft. It detected a scam instead.

Post image
124 Upvotes

I run a bird rescue in Poland and I'm currently getting desperate to find a decent pigeon loft before winter. A new one of the size we need costs around 10,000 PLN (~$2,700), so I've been checking used ones too. I found a 4 × 2.5 m (13 × 8 ft) wooden loft for 1,200 PLN (~$325), about 50 km/30 miles away.

Before anyone says that price alone should have screamed scam: it really didn't. Used pigeon lofts is a weird market. They're huge, difficult to move and sometimes people sell perfectly usable ones very cheaply because they basically want someone to come and take them off their property.

So I messaged the seller through OLX (basically Polish Craigslist). They told me it was also listed on Allegro Lokalnie (a legitimate Polish marketplace) and that I could arrange transport there for 389 PLN (~$105). Apparently they couldn't send the link through OLX, so I gave them my phone number and got the link on WhatsApp.

I opened it and it looked like Allegro Lokalnie. The loft was there, the photos were there, the price was correct, there were delivery options etc. I didn't immediately notice anything wrong.

Now, I'd already been discussing this damn pigeon loft with ChatGPT because moving a 13 × 8 ft wooden building is a logistical nightmare. We'd got as far as discussing crane trucks and whether one would be able to make a 90-degree turn through the gate.

So I pasted the link into ChatGPT. I wanted to ask if 389 PLN was a realistic price for transporting the bloody thing. And ChatGPT's response was basically: DO NOT PAY. THAT IS NOT ALLEGRO LOKALNIE.

WTF?! I've already started loading it mentally. 😭

I looked at the URL again. The beginning said allegrolokalnie..., which is what I noticed on my phone because it didn't show the whole address on the navigation bar. The actual domain, however, ended in .icu. I've marked it on the screenshot because once you actually look at it, it's obvious.

The fake site was pretty convincing. It even had delivery options, one of them apparently free with Allegro Smart, and another for special transport for 389 PLN. I clicked the transport option and got what looked like a transport company form asking for various details. I didn't go any further, so I have no idea what they eventually wanted me to enter/pay.

The really stupid thing is that I KNOW this scam. Someone tried the whole “I'll arrange a courier, here's a link” thing on me years ago when I was selling some chairs.

But apparently my scam detection system missed this, because WHO THE HELL USES A PIGEON LOFT TO SCAM PEOPLE? I genuinely thought this was a very niche market. 😂

It probably didn't help that I actually need one before winter and didn't want to lose a genuine bargain while I spent three days figuring out how to transport it.

Anyway, after ChatGPT pointed out the domain, I told the seller I'd still happily buy it. No need for their transport. I'd arrange my own crane truck, come and see the loft in person and pay 1,200 PLN cash on collection. And... silence.

A little later the fake site was blocked and OLX suspended the seller's account. So I'm still looking for a pigeon loft, but at least I'm still looking for one with an extra $325 in my bank account. 😂 Thanks, ChatGPT :)

TL;DR: I asked ChatGPT if $105 was a realistic price for transporting a pigeon loft. Instead, it noticed the seller had sent me to a fake marketplace site. Apparently even the second-hand pigeon loft market has scammers.

Other Sometimes I wonder how people stand talking to GPT casually

Gpt seems like the kind of conversational partner that would go

Girl: I feel like I'm pretty today, a guy turned and looked at me when I walked past.

GPT: You might have been, though, one caveat — a single glance alone can’t prove exactly what he was thinking and doesn't conclusively provide evidence that you're objectively attractive. It just isn’t possible to know for sure from that one moment alone.

So the evidence supports this:

"You were noticeable to him in that moment"

It does not prove:

“Therefore you are statistically better looking within the population.”

I would rephrase it as: you may have caught his attention in that moment.

So the defensible version is: “I was possibly looking noticeably attractive today, but one guy’s reaction can’t support a claim like ‘I am pretty'.’”

Other Anyone else getting hit with “cyber abuse” bans for normal coding? Paid $100/mo, appeal denied in 60 seconds

Curious how common this is, because I'm seeing a lot of similar stories.

I got banned today for "cyber abuse." I'm an indie dev and was only using ChatGPT for my own games and a geography website. No hacking, no malware, nothing touching anyone else's stuff.

What stood out to me:
- The appeal form rejected me in about one minute
- Emailing support got an AI-generated reply that closed the case and said they won't respond again
- No one will say which rule I broke

From what I've read, it seems like automated filters might be flagging normal dev work (things like testing builds on your own phone, networking code, API limits) as cyber abuse.

A few questions for anyone who's been through it:
1. What were you working on when you got flagged?
2. Did anything actually get you a human review?
3. Did you get a refund?

Educational Purpose Only Who else has told ChatGPT their entire life story?

I recently sat down with ChatGPT once the course of multiple hours over several days and basically told it my entire life story using voice to text. I first told it that I wanted to tell it my entire life story as best I could and asked it to create a numerical list of questions covering every aspect of my life that I could answer one by one, from childhood to parents to education to friendships to dating to interests etc etc. It came up with about 25-30 questions and each one took me around 20 minutes on average to answer in great detail and depth.

After all was said and done it gave me some really great insights, patterns, and analysis that simply wouldn’t have been possible for me to do on my own or with a friend- there’s simply too much data. I genuinely felt like I understood myself significantly better afterwards, though granted I took stuff with a grain of salt too. There was stuff I had never even considered about myself. However I told my friend and he said that this is just evidence I don’t know myself that well and that ChatGPT can’t provide any real insight and is built to simply validate me. I will say it did criticize me and point out negative traits too so it wasn’t all sunshine rainbows here.

Have any of yall done something similar? Did I waste my time or is there genuinely something of substance here? Is my friend right that this was all bullshit?

Use cases ChatGPT found an owl in my garden

ChatGPT 5.6 Sol accidentally tracked down an owl in my garden (and my hamster is traumatised)

Around midnight last night, I kept hearing this weird, faint call coming from the garden. The best way I can describe it is a high pitched "ma-week, ma-week" almost like a mouse squeaking.

Out of curiosity, I asked ChatGPT what on earth it could be..?

Sol suggested the closest match was likely a tawny owl, which makes a "ke-wick" noise. I went on YouTube to check, and the audio recordings matched what I was hearing almost identically!

Here’s where it gets strange: My hamster was picking up on it. When the owl made those noises, she went straight into her hideaway and refused to come out until well after the calls stopped. Even though the windows were closed.

I was pretty impressed that an AI managed to pin down the exact bird species just from my terrible example of a sound.

Other I got a GPT-6 Astra CD from OpenAI

Hey everyone, I want to share something that happened to me a few weeks ago when OpenAI launched the GPT-TV website: https://openai.com/gpt-tv/

I played the mini-game on the website and seemingly got a high enough score to reach a secret form (https://openai.com/form/gpt-tv-redemption/), which eventually led to them sending me this really cool disc.

Apparently, there’s a code on the back of the disc that gives you $100 in Codex credits... I don’t know what’s actually on the disc itself, though.

I still have the package sealed, and the code hasn’t been redeemed yet. If anyone’s interested in it, please let me know.

Just a quick P.S.: I genuinely discovered everything by accident, so it’s kind of cool to see the internet give back lol.

Use cases Rant / feedback: Please stop forcing Live Voice as a replacement for Standard Voice

This is partly a rant, but the underlying feedback is pretty simple: I do not want a “natural conversation” with an AI. I want to use ChatGPT hands-free.

There are plenty of situations where I am working on something and cannot sit in front of a keyboard. In those moments I want to speak to ChatGPT, have the normal model actually process what I said, and hear the answer spoken back to me. Standard Voice did exactly that. It did not need to pretend to be human, it did not need fake conversational mannerisms, and I genuinely did not care if it sounded a bit robotic. It was useful.

Live Voice is not an adequate replacement for that. The current model often sounds bored, condescending or mildly irritated, even after pushing the personality settings toward friendly and enthusiastic. At the same time, it constantly fills space with “um”, “uh”, sentence restarts, repetitions and half-finished thoughts. The combination is bizarre: it sounds arrogant and unsure of itself at the same time, like a student trying to bluff through a presentation they did not prepare.

If the system needs time to think or wait for a reasoning model in the backend, that is completely fine. Just say “give me a moment” and be quiet for a few seconds. I would much rather wait for a coherent answer than listen to twenty seconds of verbal filler while the useful part apparently arrives later. And frankly, I am not convinced the reasoning handoff works reliably anyway. I obviously cannot see the internal routing, but my experience with Live is that missed context, bad assumptions, hallucinations and generally shallow answers become more common. Sometimes it really does feel as if Live simply answered on its own instead of waiting for the stronger model that was supposed to handle the task.

The customization options do not solve this either. Making the voice more “professional” seems to make it sound even more aloof, while making it warmer and more conversational gives me more of the filler and fake human hesitation that I am trying to get rid of. That is not meaningful control over the experience.

OpenAI has tried more than once to move users away from Standard Voice and toward newer voice systems, and the same problem keeps coming back: these modes are not the same product for the same use case. If people want interruptible, human-like conversation and AI small talk, great, keep Live for them. I am simply not that audience.

What I want is much more boring and much more useful: ChatGPT with a microphone and a speaker. Let me talk to the normal model when my hands are busy, let it think, and read the answer back to me. That is all I need, and I would really like Standard Voice back as an option.

Other ChatGPT has been giving way more than I’ve been asking for.

Post image

This is a vent/rant. Me: gives explicit instructions. ChatGPT: rewords my request starting with “you want a…” Me: yes, so please do it. ChatGPT: does it wrong. Like very wrong. Me: Bad job. This is not what I asked for. ChatGPT: you’re right. I did xyz when I should have done what you asked.

Then goes on to make several excuses and it is about to cause me to delete the app forever. Or take a hammer to my phone. It’s maddening.

Also - I’m noticing an overly familiar or annoyed tone and recently I asked for a checklist for a project. See pic - leave some damn space?! Really?! So freaking weird.
