First time cat guardian, gifted by the CDS!
The shock has worn off, so I’d love to tell this story to a community that would appreciate it!!
On a sunny morning two weeks ago, I met a little tabby on our driveway. We have neighborhood cats and I figured a little guy was just hanging out. I called my partner out and we pet him for a little and then went on with our day.
Fast forward a few hours, I come home from work and he is on the driveway AGAIN. At this point, I go in and grab him a lil treat and show him our backyard and let him know he can hang out there. Granted, we have 2 dogs so I wasn’t sure if we would see him again.
We leave for an event at our local library and come home joking about how the cat would be in the driveway again. We didn’t see him upon our return and just continue to talk about him as we walk further into the house. All of a sudden we hear meowing and the driveway cat is IN OUR HOME, just casually walking around. He walked in through the dog door! I immediately called my friend who works with a cat rescue, very frantically, about what to do. One of our dogs is pretty reactive and barks at all the neighborhood kitties, so somehow a war did not break out in our absence.
All the usual next steps were taken: checked for microchip, posted on the FB lost & found pet page, talked with neighbors, contacted the shelter, and it was all crickets. So a week later we take him to the vet to establish some care and it’s becoming more obvious that this little guy will become a part of our family 😻 He was found to be in excellent health.
We’ve named him Lucky 🍀 and we somehow got graced with the sweetest, friendliest, cuddliest cat. Thank you CDS for this new adventure in cat caretaking!

Well, you weren’t responding to his “subtle” hints quickly enough so he decided to take matters into his own paws. He’s already worked out your custody arrangement with your dog, so you don’t need to do anything!
The dog will take the 10am-5pm bark at strangers walking by shift and he’ll take the 8pm-5am zoomies.

He's adorable!
Also picture #3 is particularly fabulous!
I was a mall photographer for a while. The studio allowed/encouraged families to include cooperative furry companions, and it turned out I had a bit of a knack for it, and was often the first photographer assigned to a shoot with critters.
Whenever I got critter pix that were that good, those images always turned into good sales. In fact, every so often, corporate would offer extra free prints in order to get the family to allow corporate to use those pictures for national ad campaigns.
Damn good eye!

He looks like a playful cat. We also adopted a stray 2 months ago and named him Lucky.

Dogs have great sense of smell. It's possible your dogs knew (about) him earlier than you and didn't respond because they were already familiar.
Good luck :)

I’m wondering if kitty’s “first” time in the house was really their first time, or if they have been having secret meetings with the pup for a while.

Ahem. Point of correction, though forgivable since you’re new to this: the cat is your guardian; you are beholden to him. Additionally, you were in his house.** It ceased to be **your house the moment the cat entered.
