Vertical up

So I started welding 2 months ago at a welding school, I am a Junior in highschool, and currently on single bevel vertical up, and we do mig, anyways, vertical up has been difficult for me, specifically edge and corner joints, because either my welds look very bumpy and just ball up, or I burn a hole through them, and I am very confused, ive tried a different pattern, different speed, different settings, different angle, less and greater distances, nothing seems to work, help much appreciated!

Watch welding tips and tricks on YouTube. There are very few practical uses for vertical up solid wire mig. Don’t be discouraged it’s actually pretty hard

When material thickness is there, bevel that outside corner back a bit and turn your machine down a couple notches. A lot of “ugly” comes from melting away excess material. I’ve never heard of a thin-walled outside corner being vertically MiG welded anyways.

yep, down hill on outside corners on 1/4" thickness anyways,,, 3/8" would be the thiness I'd attempt uphill, but still no reason to do that.

I'm talking about fitting it up where the inside edge hits the other inside edge where it forms a natural bevel.
