Dog(s) Look at dog’s reaction. A man lost his dog and spent a week searching every rural road before finding him

Same. I lost a guinea pig a few years ago. I spent hours every day walking my yard and neighborhood. Two weeks later he just came hopping out of an area where there are rat tunnels and nests. It was winter, so the only way I figure he could've survived was by either taking over the rats tunnels, or befriending them. He was more wild after I found him, wanted to fight my dog, me, and the other guinea pig he'd grown up with.

Does the Guinea pig get along with the dog well? Debating adding a pair to my home since they don’t cost extra pet fees (via my Property Management company I mean)

It all depends on your dog. I introduced this pig slowly over a few months to the dogs before I finally trusted them. He's so much bigger it only takes one misstep. Guinea pigs also do zoomies, which can easily trigger the prey response.
I fully trust all but one of my dogs (whos new) to be around with the pigs out, but I watched them closely for several months.

My large dog is good with my tiny cat, took about a month for them to start clicking. So I think that would help him adjust to the pig quicker. Thanks for the info 👍

u/stowaway36 20d ago
Yeah, that'd definitely help, if he's gentle with the cat and already knows he's big. It took my dog some time to understand what "watch the pig" meant.

Yeah same. I told my kids to stop opening the door when I get home and pull in the driveway because she climbs in my car like this too, but then also expects me to drive her around right after.

Years ago my cat escaped our of the house and she was gone for three days. When she showed back up I scooped her into my arms, walked inside, and fell down crying and hugging her.
It was a bad couple days for me.

I had the same situation... Didn't sleep for three nights in case he comes back and jumps on the window to let me know he wants in. Searched for him all over until I heard him calling out, stuck in a tree... scooped him, took him home and broke down crying and hugging the damn cat. Two hours later, he miaowed at the door like - Open up, woman! Good to see you, bye now!

u/eat_sleep_drift 20d ago
my cat went crazy like this dog after me spending a couple days in hospital, he came cuddling and mewowing at me like crazy with way moree intensity then when i just go out for a couple hours

u/PrettyPunctuality 20d ago
My dog dug under our fence at the beginning of this year, and she only went down the street before I found her and grabbed her, and I was crying just from that 😂 She's done it several times now, despite me putting fence barriers around the entire fence line, so now she wears a tracking device for my peace of mind.

My childhood cat ran out the door when I was probably around 12. My mom was extra anxious on the 3rd night. She saw our kitty in nearby bushes but was too afraid to spook her off further.
In full confidence, I got out of bed, at 11pm on a school night, telling her ill get her.
My mom was stumped watching me walk back in with this big, terrified kitty. She thought she would see me and run off. Nope. I just picked her up.
Its funny to me more than it is heartwarming, this video takes the cake for sure.

...why is he filming?
Did he ditch the dog then drive back to pick it up?
33
u/RobbSnow64 20d ago
Ya I was wondering that, not even a webcam, hes holding an older cam or cell, which is odd. Maybe someone tipped him off that they saw it in that area

u/VoidmasterCZE 19d ago
It's not hard take out your phone and start filming as soon as he saw the dog in the distance.
6
u/TCB4EAP 20d ago
He absolutely did that. There are lots of these videos here, but especially on YouTube. Who drives around with a passenger filming them? The dog just happened to be waiting for him on the side of the road? The reason the dog immediately recognised the car is because the guy just dropped him off a couple of minutes before.

It is truly amazing how lately so many dogs keep getting lost and their owners finding them while recording it. Just such astonishing coincidences!

I honestly had the same thought. Like why was he recording driving down the road in the first place, and he opens the door into a selfie shot as if it was planned. Who’s to say he didn’t just abandon his dog down a country road and then turn around to get him just for content creation ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

I thought dogs could find their way home. I had a dog when I was a child that escaped from a stay at the vet office - which was a good driving distance from our home. She found her way home, on her own. It's amazing...so I'm wondering how this dog was not able to get back home for a week?
2
u/EclecticFruit 20d ago
The success of dogs finding their home when lost is very low. It happens, but not frequently. It almost makes 'dogs can find their way home' a myth, but not quite. There's just enough truth there for this concept to be repeated between humans ad nauseam.

I can’t imagine the sleepless nights I’d have if one of my babies wandered off.. great pet owners know that this can happen by no fault of their own turning their head for 2 seconds. I live in the country, and none of my dogs or neighbors’ dogs see a leash unless it’s a vet appointment. GPS dog collars are amazing!

u/stab-somebody 20d ago
Why do so many people who supposedly love their dog not spend the $10 to put a tag on their collar with their name and phone number?

I lost my cat in the high desert of Nevada for a solid 12 hours as we were making our way across the states, and left the window rolled down a little too far when i pulled to the side of the road to relieve myself. Gave up twice, but un-gave up after driving about 50 miles. Eventually heard a lonesome meow right as the sun set below the horizon. It was a snowball's chance in hell, but he's still here with me.

Our dog knew my car was coming before anyone else - at least a 30s head-start. Once, my engine had problems and I had to get the engine fixed. He barked at my car for a few days before accepting it back as a family member lol.

u/RiskSpecialist01 20d ago
I had a dog that looked just like him but mine would never run away from me for more than a few minutes. He was the greatest dog I ever knew but they’re too much dog for an average family.
1
u/Lower_Row2950 20d ago
I would do the same. And she would hear the car like she does when I come home, my husband opens the door, and she runs to give me kisses. Good dog and good parent. True love.

I learned to engage with babies as a teen because I loved dogs and cats. To this day I talk to babies, toddlers, dogs and cats the same universal loving way. It's the only way I know I'm showing love.

It wasn't a week, but my dog got out of the yard one day when no one was home. I pulled into the driveway after work and he bounded over to me the same way, "I thought you'd never return!!!!"
He was an indoor dog after that.

Doesn’t it look strange to you all that someone films these at the exact moment?!
1
u/Baldrs_Draumar 19d ago
If this happens to you. Leave a piece of your clothing where you lost the dog, an old sweater, coat/jacket, etc. That you have worn a lot without washing it.
Come back every 4-8 hours.
This is what hunters do where I'm from.

the amount of people who dont put tags to dogs is just insane. with an Airtag you would NEVER loose your dog.

Loosing a dog I suspect is similar to loosing a child. Searching everywhere and praying to find them alive. How we love them sometimes more than any relative other than my wife.

It is just as likely that he deliberately left the dog behind, only to film its reaction and generate clicks here. This is suggested by the fact that he happens to be filming at that exact moment, implying he clearly knows when he is going to find the dog.
