Shitpost Back in Spring of 2017 a Los Pollos Hermanos location opened in downtown Austin. The owner was on site for the grand opening.
It is said that the pleasant fellow still takes up residence in Austin to this day.

Welcome to our weekly stupid question day.
Have a question too trivial or dumb for its own post? Unload it here. Questions need to have some relevance to Austin.

Trying to put our infant to sleep for a nap at 9:30a this morning and some guy comes banging on my door and ringing the doorbell. I answer thinking it’s a neighbor and it’s a Paxton goon trying to give me a flyer propaganda. Shut the door and ignored it but noticed he drove to my house to do this and ignored all my neighbors which now makes me feel this is targeted.
Went ahead and donated a $100 to dems cause it felt slimy af especially on a Sunday.

Added to the fact that the vehicles will often stop and wait in the middle of the road, among other serious limitations and safety issues, one has to wonder how Austin's leadership has allowed the city to become a glorified 'test track' for unproven technology that is clearly still in the 'early beta stage' of development. If the company owner himself does not feel the vehicle is safe after dark the city has an obligation to step in on behalf of the public and put a stop to it operating after sun down. Better more proactive civic leadership here would help.

i’ve lived by westgate/stassney for like 7 years. i’ve never heard any loud music here in my backyard let alone in my house. since ACL started i’ve been hearing loud thumping music constantly roughly the same hours as ACL…but i’ve been in this house the past many ACLs and have never heard anything.
i know the xx is playing now and i have no idea who the hell twenty one pilots is. i just heard seven nation army by the white stripes (i know it’s played during like every sports game but this was the full song and sounded live).
am i going insane? i walked a loop around the neighborhood before and could constantly hear the music but i couldn’t get any closer to it. it sounds live to me but maybe it’s some asshats visiting and partying in an airbnb? but the music has only been playing while ACL is happening. has anyone else in this part of town heard it? am i having a stroke? it’s not really bothering me but i just must know where it’s coming from.

Hi! My boyfriend and I noticed an injured duck (I’m sure it’s fishing wire) at mueller lake and contacted 311. They notified animal control and told us unfortunately they can’t go to that area as they aren’t paid to. I was told to contact Muellers hoa and I did but I’m worried about the little guy. I’m going to call Austin wildlife rescue tomorrow and see if they’ll take him if I can bring him in. Does anyone have any helpful information or would like to help? Thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Anyone else finding little ants all of a sudden? Does the rain drive them inside?

This one was in town, a nice little remodel. It is easy for builders to see how something has been done wrong, but sometimes it's tough to realize what is missing.

This wallet has a picture printed of a family after what looks to be a Turkey Trot (exterior of wallet screen printed). There’s nothing left in the wallet, looks like it was ditched out the window of a car. Happy to return it the rightful owner. Was found on Springdale and 51st

For those of y'all that have tried meetup, is it worth it? I see a few events pop up here and there and as someone who recently moved here and is finding it hard to find community, it's pretty tempting.
One that keeps popping up is "New To Austin 20/30s" so if you've gone to one of those I'm extremely interested in hearing your experience!
Eta: I work nights so it's hard to find things that work with my schedule

Does anybody know what’s causing this?
There are no reported fires in the area

When we left the house earlier the sky over the Decker Lake power plant was full of a yellow toxic looking cloud of gas. My partner took these photos while I was driving. It’s hard to see the yellow in the photos

Saw them on the marquee a couple of weeks ago while walking my dog in my neighborhood. It was cool to have a few beers at my place and go see some awesome music within a minute walking distance of my house. This city is still cool idgaf what people say...

Hi all! Teacher friends and friends with kiddos — I’m putting together care packages for loved ones who are currently deployed, and I’d love to include letters and drawings from kids to brighten the days of deployed service members.
I have a few wonderful teachers who are already having their students write short letters, draw pictures, or make cards for deployed heroes. I’d love to collect as many as we can and include them in care packages.
If you’re a teacher, homeschool, parent, or anyone with kiddos in the Austin area who would be willing to have them write a short letter or draw a picture, I would be so grateful. The letters can be as simple as:
-A thank-you for their service
- drawing or coloring page
- An encouraging message or holiday card
No need for anything elaborate — a few heartfelt words or a child’s drawing can mean a lot to someone far from home.
If you’re interested in participating, please message me and I’ll send you the details on where to send the letters. Thank you for helping me spread a little kindness to those serving away from home!

I stopped in their new location today and the place is a nightmare. No fish, crowded small mammal enclosures. It was so sad and not the kind of magical place the old store was. Was there a change in ownership? I’m so glad I didn’t have my kid with me because I can’t imagine how disappointed he would’ve been seeing what it looks like now.

Hi!! I’m 30F and have lived in Austin for over 8 years, but in about a month, my sister 27F (who has been to Austin many times) and two family friends who are 15F and 13F (never been to Austin) are coming to visit.
I’m looking for recommendations to do with the teenagers to show them what Austin is about in a teen/kid friendly way!!
Definitely want to go to Barton Springs if the weather is nice. They will be here for about 48 hours.

Last weekend I lubed up the pole holding the bird feeder with olive oil and I guess the rain washed enough off for this one to get some grip and climb up. I was watching it for a minute and then got these pictures. I chased it off and re-lubed the pole and a minute later it was back looking up at it and then finally jumped and slid right back down to the bottom, haha!! I dumped a 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds and walnuts for it and then it got a drink and took off.
