What ever happened to cruller doughnuts?

I remember one of my favorite doughnuts as a kid used to be the kruller (cruller) from Krispy Kreme. They stopped selling them for whatever reason, and now it’s almost impossible to find crullers in general. Maybe I haven’t looked in the right spots? Where are all the crullers?

So far I’ve only found a honey cruller from Tim Hortons (I’m not a fan of honey flavored things). I really just want the same kind as they had at Krispy Kreme. Does anyone remember them or know where I can find some?

I share your grief, pal. The Timmy Ho’s honey thing is not what you seek. Don’t even bother with the CSO (cruller shaped object) at Dunkin, though it’s ok soaked in coffee.

I have found some winners at Sarah’s, Randy’s, and Dandy (Sub Base).

I will forever mourn the passing of the Cake Hag’s brandied peach doughssant as the winner of Atlanta non-donut donuts.

It’s not fair. I’ve seen so many people coming to the consensus that Krispy Kreme only has one good doughnut anymore. What gives? Why give up the best thing they had? lol obv I have to assume it wasn’t selling well so I get it… but they should have at least left us a recipe or something! I haven’t seen anything like it ever again. Seems absurd.

Sarah’s, Randy’s and Dandy? Is this one place or three? lol I couldn’t find anything by googling. Please help me out

Sarah's Donuts is a small-ish chain. https://www.sarahdonuts.com/#location - solid product all around, though I can't remember if they have crullers on the regular.

Dunkin used to make EXCELLENT ones, back when they were all baked/made in-house.

Sarah’s donuts are best in the city that I’ve had. We moved offices and it’s no longer close, unfortunately.

Pure dumb luck in my experience, but you might go in or call and ask if/when they have them.

For real though I think we just don’t demand higher quality stuff. Example: 7/11 stores. They’re great everywhere but here even though they are (started out as) an American company.

Agreed - crullers were always my favorite. In my mind they faded as a victim of the popularity of Cronuts.

For what it’s worth, Best Country Donuts on Jonesboro Rd in Forest Park is legit wonderful old school donut shop. Get there early - there’s a line at 5am and they close when they sell out for the day. But I don’t think I’ve seen crullers there.

I haven't been there in a couple years but I know dough in the box at least used to have them. Would be worth checking. They've got at least 2 locations in cobb, maybe more.

lol I’m touched that this thread moved you to grab a cruller! That’s awesome. I guess I’m going to have to break down and try the Dunkin one too since no one else seems to have them near me :)
