some good games

Resign Christian Vasquez. Dude’s baseball IQ, clubhouse attitude and value (price for performance (1Y/1M)) is too good to let go. Definitely other moves to do but that’s an underrated move that needs to happen.

Astros were 46-30 in games he started this year…35-53 when someone else started (including postseason). In September/October, they were 3-3 when he started…8-12 when Diaz started.

Yainer caught 30.2 more innings and opponents scored 49 more runs. (according to google).

That figure isnt good but also doesn’t capture Vasquez’ ability to calm down pitchers and let them trust him. He just calls a better game.

It seems that Yainer isn’t necessarily lacking in pre game planning but he lacks the ability to adjust based off of the game/what the other team is attacking/ what pitches the pitcher is throwing well.

Diaz would be one of our better trade chips. I definitely want Vazquez back to help mentor whoever would replace Diaz.

Really making me sick that we aren't playing today 😭

Idk man I think I just made peace with it. That's just where I'm at

I still miss seeing us playing in these rounds - even if it did feel stressful, but as a baseball fan, it just feels a bit lighter at least not having to feel like yelling, screaming, or having to do my postseason superstitions lol

Me too

Did your heart grow three sizes bigger seeing them narrowly win?

Hey Okert/Walker, look how loud a crowd can be in the playoffs when you aren’t absolutely garbage.

I saw a Braves fan blame DeGramps for waiving his NTC. If anything, with the way he’s played this past month, he did them a favor not joining them.

On the flip side, these Rays are getting fun to watch. FTY I hope to see their punk-asses fracture

u/notcrackerjack 1d ago

I know they just eliminated us, but I really have a soft spot for the Sox. If any team deserves the WS this year in my book it's them or the Brewers. Just as long as they kill the Dodgers

Feel that. I wanna see Padres/LA cause that would be a WILD series but want the Brew Crew to win as well 🤷‍♂️. AL wouldn’t mind Cleveland or ChiSox or even TB. Just not the Skankees

1

u/Guilty_Pineapple_557 Alex Bregman 1d ago

Yeah fuck the punk-ass Bronx Bummers

I wasn't even that mad with the White Sox as I was with Detroit 2 years ago. And after two consecutive 100-loss seasons, I honestly wanna see how far the Southsiders can go. They're pretty fun, and honestly, Murakami's a pretty cool player

I wanna see the Brew Crew and the Rays hopefully go far

u/TexanAlex 1d ago

They remind me of the Astros in 2015.

u/dirtysock47 1d ago

Yeah, i don't hate the White Sox, and i don't mind rooting for them. They're a fun little team

4

u/Salty-Fishman 1d ago

I am about to quit baseball if dodgers win any more games.

Fuck Tucker. He need to stink.

2

u/dirtysock47 1d ago

The fact that MLBONFAX was able to get TK's voice on AI is crazy

10

u/AgentMulderFBI 1d ago

Of course Tucker does something in the playoffs for the dodgers

I miss Teoscar. 😔

World wide media and sponsorship promoting only LA and NY teams

BRAVES YESSS HR

u/davidsd Altuve's foot 1d ago

The glazing of the Dodgers I understand as the team with the best record and insane number of big name players. But c'mon, at least say something about how much it all costs. The players still have to perform as a team, but it's insane how many top players they just bought.

1

u/ParkingKindly8719 1d ago

BRAVES COME ON !!!!!!!!

Astros will win tonight, you just have to believe! Go Stros! 😊

Anyone but the Yankees in the AL

Anyone but the Dodgers in the NL

2

u/Fuzzy-Visit-7453 Houston Astros 1d ago

Guardians, Rays and Braves, Brewers

Then Rays - Brewers with either winning.

4

u/TempestDrive Houston Astros 1d ago

Isn’t rebuilding harder than it looks? Didn’t we have to suck for 3-5 years to get top draft picks back then?

3

u/no_quarter89 Astros Pride 1d ago

It’s much harder. Especially considering the number of rule changes that were made in response to the way Lunhow did it. Plus the fact that we had early adopter advantage on the analytics revolution. A change like that comes along once in a generation. Recreating the way we did the last rebuild is nigh impossible.

2

u/HumanRuse 21h ago

Yep, I think that the major advantage was that Luhnow was ahead of the curve. Now others have caught up.

And regardless of it all there are no guarantees that prospects pan out no matter how they are graded by the various so-called experts. We've experienced the disappointments first hand on many occasions.

Basically a lot of things have to align.

5

u/bordomsdeadly Houston Buffalos 1d ago

Yes and no.

The GM that started the rebuild wasn’t a good GM. Out of all of the pre Luhnow trades Berkman was the only one that got us any players for the ‘17 team.

Luhnow knew which levers to pull and while he made mistakes his moves consistently panned out well.

2012 was the first Luhnow season and we were really bad for 2 years, regular bad for 1 and then made the playoffs in his 4th year

1

u/Turbulent_End_6887 1d ago

I also think the owner was wanting to sell the team. The only good player he kept was Biggio, thank goodness.

2

u/Prayray Robert Ford 1d ago

Yes, and we got extremely lucky early on with who we hit on.

4

u/Bootleschloogen 1d ago

I would argue we did a pretty bad job early on as far as top drafts go. Mark Appel and Brady Aiken were both huge duds for being number 1 picks in the draft. Though I guess with not signing Aiken we were able to get a number 2 pick that was used for Bregman in 2015

u/Strosfan85 Houston Astros 1d ago

Padres v Indians WS.. just as long as we don't get Dodgers/Yankees

Astros fan living in Wisconsin. I guess I'll adopt the Brewers this October. They might be the only chance to stop an LA 3peat

Astros fan living in Wisconsin

Hello from another Astros fan living in Wisconsin, on the same boat now

5

u/NOLA1987 Lance McCullers Jr. 1d ago

I know the White Sox just beat us (though we gave them some help along the way), but I wouldn't be upset to see this specific team take it all the way (since I'm taking the ESPN route and erasing 2005 as though it never existed).

But otherwise, Rays/Padres. Or Brewers/Rays. Anyone but the Dodgers and the Yankees

1

u/Guilty_Pineapple_557 Alex Bregman 1d ago

I mean, they're a very exciting team to watch

2

u/Jefferson_47 Houston Astros 1d ago

I was sitting in the nosebleeds for game four in 2005 and it was brutal. I love Blummer more than I hate Pierzynski at this point though, so I wouldn’t hate seeing them win after how much they sucked just last year. I’d really love to see the Brew Crew finally win one though.

Martin Maldonado posted "on my way to H-Town" yesterday on his story. Could mean nothing. Hoping it means he's traveling to discuss some sort of job opportunity with the team!

2

u/bordomsdeadly Houston Buffalos 1d ago

I hope it’s not manager / GM

I think he could be a manager eventually, but he feels like he needs some work in another coaching role before eventually moving into a potential manager role.

1

u/no_quarter89 Astros Pride 1d ago

If they make Omar Lopez the next manager I’d definitely want Maldy as the bench coach.

1

u/Gemnist Houston Astros 1d ago

I’m rooting for Guardians over White Sox, Rays over Yankees, Braves over Dodgers, and then either team for Brewers vs. Padres. Then Rays to win the ALCS and whoever wins between Brewers and Padres to win the NLCS.

1

u/Guilty_Pineapple_557 Alex Bregman 1d ago

Tbh pretty neutral on White Sox-Guards and Braves-Dodgers - I'd be more than surprised if the Braves can beat the Dodgers but I'm expecting that to be close imo

Wanting the Rays to beat the living shit out of the Yankees

Padres-Brewers - I’m excited to see the Brewers play and I could see them winning the series imo

1

u/Capsized777 1d ago

I hate the Braves, but hopefully they knock off the Dodgers. I could honestly stomach anyone else winning the World Series other than the Dodgers. Brewers and Rays World Series, please. I lived in Tampa for a while and have always enjoyed the Rays ever since Joe Maddon was a manager.

I do also really want to see a floor and a cap, so if the only way for that to happen is for the Dodgers to win again, so be it.

1

u/RoadSodaDodgeRam 1d ago

Anyone but the dodgers or Yankees and because I’m still salty, fuck the white Sox too lmao. Probably just going to catch the recaps until the WS. Way too much sports on rn and it’s only going to get more packed out with the NBA preseason starting today.

1

u/Guilty_Pineapple_557 Alex Bregman 1d ago

All of these games are gonna be pure insanity. Hoping the Rays and Brewers win. The other games…honestly, I'm gonna let baseball baseball lol

Also just a correction: Padres-Brewers airs on FS1

4

u/Soalz 1d ago

I wouldn't mind seeing Dubon and the Braves knock out the Dodgers

4

u/NOLA1987 Lance McCullers Jr. 1d ago

And then Doobie can come back home

1

u/no_quarter89 Astros Pride 1d ago

Bringing him back would be a really good move cause it would give us a lot of flexibility in how we approach the rest of the offseason. I want him signed before the lockout.

2

u/SITHHORNY 1d ago

Baseball season ended September 30 for me 😞

2

u/BXR_ChelseaGrin_ 1d ago

Fuck the Dodgers, fuck the Yankees.

Go Brewers, Rays.

2

u/Primary_Expert7249 1d ago

Go Brewers I guess
