Men, what’s one small, seemingly insignificant thing you’ve noticed that can be a telltale sign of the difference between a genuinely good man and a bad one?

According to this thread I'm some sort of saint

Well not being a dismissive oblivious asshole is a low bar.

The bar may be low, but… why do so many people have shovels? You’re supposed to go OVER the bar, what’re you doing?

That is ironically really, really bad.

Your meaning seems to have flown over my head, I'm afraid.

Because at least half of these are about virtue signaling and don't highlight being good as much as being "nice" and being "politically acceptable"

Essentially, if you're everything people are mentioning, you're a spineless, valueless, harmless critter.

I don't quite understand your meaning. Are you trying to imply that you equate your value and your sense of courage with the amount of harm you cause? If that's the case I'm afraid I cannot relate in the slightest.

Being incapable of causing harm is not something one should be proud of. I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

There's a difference between only doing what others want and following your own values and being kind.

I'm not sure that "harm" was the right word to use if what you're getting at is what I'm thinking, but please do elaborate.

Ahh no I think I get it, you're one of those guys that walk around unironically using words like "alpha" to describe yourself and blame women for not being into you, right?

1

u/GrumpyRutabaga 7h ago

Yup. That's me. The parody of a strawman you create so you don't really need to consider the possibility of maybe things being different to how you assume them to be.

In the flesh.

It's not a strawman if it's something I'm unafraid of. Whatever the ridiculous equivalent of that is. Let's go with laughingstock. Anti-social behavior isn't a virtue, big dog.

Not a single thing I have said relates at all to "antisocial behaviour".

That, too, is a strawman.

As seen earlier in the thread: "Whenever a guy has to say he's a gentleman or a nice guy or bragging about the nice things they've done, even being a white knight"

5

u/thisnamemattersalot 10h ago

Ahh, I didn't even consider that given there's nothing whatsoever to be gained from doing so in an anonymous internet space. Commenting here for my own amusement

Self-aggrandisement even when "anonymous" (perhaps, particularly, when one feels anonymous) is Patrick Bateman level of narcissism.

He was just joking around bro, what's narcissistic about that 😭

-4

u/Vind1carre 8h ago

You're right, dude, posting you're a saint because you don't do any of the negative things mentioned in a thread, then not understanding why that's a red flag, then defending your unprompted "anonymous" bragging because you do it for your own amusement is making a joke; definitely not a display of narcissism.

I'm pretty sure that his original comment was a sarcastic joke lol. He wasn't actually calling himself a "saint". I'm pretty sure he was just making a commentary on how normal some of the "good" behaviors here are

Hey you get points for reading comprehension!

If he hadn't defended his position in subsequent posts, I could see that.

god you do love to hear yourself don't you

A flair for hyperbole, have we?

You're right, I'm no saint.
