Whats the most sexually explicit and “visible” mainstream movie you have ever seen?
349
u/STFUnicorn_ 13h ago
I was at a station I worked at a few years ago and they decided to put on a movie. Requiem for a dream… I’d seen it, no one else had. I was like well it’s a bold choice to play while at work.
91
u/kill-99 12h ago
An extremely bold choice, do you still work there..

u/STFUnicorn_ 12h ago
Yeah. Would’ve been interesting if the chief decided to wander into the crew room during certain scenes.

That scene went from ridiculous to completely unhinged so fast. I genuinely kept thinking they had to be done, and somehow they just kept going.
85
u/WhosThisGeek 14h ago
Didn't they actively make it more over-the-top every time the studio/censors complained?
74
u/ModusPwnins 10h ago
Yes. If you're watching the unrated cut with the scat, that's what was originally submitted to the MPAA, knowing they'd give it an NC-17. Then Trey and Matt cut the scene down to what they originally wanted, and got an R rating.
Having been fucked over royally when Orgazmo received its unwarranted NC-17, they learned how to play the game: give the MPAA something to cut, and they'll give you the rating you want.
21
u/Gr8NonSequitur 13h ago
Though I can't verify it, I'll believe it. That's completely on brand for Trey and Matt.

This is a core childhood memory of mine, when we were about 14 our friend's Dad let us watch the unrated version with him so he could skip any egregious stuff.
Come to that scene and we are laughing our asses off as he scrambles to fast forward but it only goes at 2x speed which only added to the hilarity of how many different positions there were. Good times.

I took a lovely lady to see that movie as our first date. I knew it was by the South Park guys, but had no clue about the puppet sex or other explicit scenes.
We didn’t speak again for 3 years.
When we did match again, she had forgotten me at first, but I reminded her before our second first date. Which turned into a first second date, and eventually married for 17 years and counting.

They had to tone down a puppet sex scene for the MPAA, which makes this answer even better.

My parents-in-law were staying over to watch our newborn while my wife and I went out for a date. They had heard of the critically acclaimed Sideways, so threw it up in my home theatre. My wife and I walked in about 3s before the iconic "Her husband works a night shift or something, and he comes home and catches me on the floor with my cock in his wife's ass."
I was able to sputter out "I'm glad we came home to something else...kinda."

Not necessarily an explicit sex scene, but 'Not another teen movie' came on cable one night, my parents wanted to watch it cause it was a teen comedy. I knew what was coming so I chose that moment to go to the bathroom, and down the hall I just hear my mom go '...OH MY GOD!' and I died laughing

I watch horror movies with my mom because my gf won't watch them with me (sometimes she does, but it's not her thing) and my dad won't watch them with her.
Infinity Pool had good reviews so we started watching it. But 30 minutes into the movie the main character is jerked off by some lady, with a zoom in on the tip of his cock up to and including the moment he dispatches his swim team.
So we stopped there. But a few years before that we watched The Lords of Salem, which ends with a surreal montage that, among other things, features cultists and/or demons jerking off. And this was the end of the movie. We were invested. So we just sat through it.

It’s Antichrist and I believe the story is that they used a stand-in for a close up (who was a professional porn actor) because Dafoe’s penis was too large “to be believable” - y’know as opposed to male porn actors who are famous for their modestly-sized members.
I’m still convinced this story is bullshit and that they just wanted to use someone who was comfortable having an erection/unsimulated sex on camera (note nobody ever talks about that the female actor was also a stand-in) but that this started as a joke and has evolved into accepted lore.

u/IgnobleCampaign 22h ago
I thought this was a real movie for so long. I was a kid when Seinfeld was on so while I recognized them making pop culture references, I was too young to distinguish this from just another one of the references I didn't get.
I only realized it wasn't some obscure 90s movie a couple of years ago.
42
u/NateHohl 15h ago
Yeah, and in fairness to you, Seinfeld had a mix of both real and fake movie references.
There’s the episode where George watches Home Alone at Jerry’s apartment (with generic sound effects since they obviously couldn’t get the rights), the episode where Jerry and his girlfriend make out during Schindler’s List, and the episode where everyone is fawning over The English Patient much to Elaine’s chagrin.
But then there are plenty of other “movies” that were entirely fabricated for the show like Chunnel, Sack Lunch, Prognosis Negative, Cry, Cry, Again, Mountain High, Firestorm, and of course Rochelle, Rochelle.

6%!?!

u/PantsyFants 14h ago
Miscast is an understatement. Dana Delaney as a dominatrix and Dan Aykroyd & Rosie O'Donnell as undercover cops. It came out during the boom of 90s erotic thrillers but it's about as sexy as a Walmart checkout line. I think it's also supposed to be a comedy but they forgot to write jokes.
6% is generous

In school, we always used to beg our teacher to have us watch a movie instead of having an actual class. At some point one of our peer classes convinced their Latin teacher it was time for a movie, on the condition it would be educational too. The teacher thought a movie about a Roman emperor named Caligula would be a good idea. Well, it wasn't, they didn't watch a movie after all...

I'd say it was mainstream. When we were teens it's was the movie that caught the vibe of the moment. A few copies on VHS floated around the school and we watched it on many occasions. It wasn't as much "talk of the town" as it was just a humming in the background. Everybody had seen it most people could quote pieces from it.
Didn't feel too scandalous either it was just how life was, just a little bit more extreme.

I remember that movie, and I watched it for the first time in class too. It was introduced as the finest recreation of prehistoric life. After the first 10 minutes the teachers left and we were alone for the rest of the movie. It was cute because you could see overprotected kids with pure naivety asking lots of questions and high exposure and more experienced kids answering honestly, no judgement whatsoever, in a considerate and sensible way. Some girls began to ask why the girl switched positions and for some reason they did not get it so we stopped the movie and re-enacted the situation, but it wasn't obscene, it was just kids trying to make sense. It's a beautiful memory of my childhood.

That's pretty much it. It was an attempt to actually make the NC-17 rating something mainstream. Unlike most of these films, it played in mainstream suburban chain multiplexes, not just art theaters. It was widely promoted in mainstream media. And it was a huge flop that meant nobody wanted to do that again. Was it trashy and campy on purpose? Most likely, but that did not play well in middle America and instead convinced everyone that this is exactly why they didn't make mainstream NC-17 films.
Was it the most explicit? No. But it was definitely the most mainstream.
