Physician Responded Painful broken skin in my butt crack... NSFW

Post image

30 female, 5ft7 175 lbs

Currently taking 75mg zoloft 300 mg wellbutrin and 4mg prazosin

This has happened to me a few times. I haven't been able to trace a root cause yet. Its painful, broken skin that starts as slight irritation in my butt crack. I normally wear thong underwear but when I get this irritation I cant because it hurts. Thongs are my every day wear and this is so infrequent (maybe 2 or 3x a year) I cant imagine that's the cause. Its slightly itchy, very uncomfortable and as it gets worse it starts to blister. I have tried a and d ointment, thats what I have on it now. I just dont understand why this is happening. If anyone has any insight as to how to prevent it I would be grateful. As of now im just treating it as an open wound (keeping it clean, ointment, and was able to cover it with a bandaid to keep underwear from rubbing)

In the location in which pilonidal disease occurs. Is it soft and feel like its filled with fluid under the red area? If so, may need a drainage procedure.

Not a doctor or in the medical profession. But i have the exact same thing. It developed in my 20s around the same time I developed psoriasis and eczema. For me, I noticed my spot split open when I frequently drank beer or ate too much of certain breads. (Wheat or gluten sensitivity?). I stopped eating those items as frequently as I used to and it started to heal up on its own. Cortisone helped too.

Had that. Might not look or feel like it has fluids underneath… but it’s looks like a pilonidal cyst/disease (I have heard it be called so many things while I was try to get it fixed). Please listen to the doc and get it drained. My dumbass didn’t do it… got infected… it was the most painful draining and scrapping. The numbing agent never worked and had to bite on paper towels and endure 30mins of hell. Seriously felt like a civil war vet getting an amputation. Please don’t be like me, OP! Get some help!

Asking to learn, please no downvotes:

Could this potentially be an outbreak of candida, which is irritated further by the thongs?

This is really unfortunate news, I have been battling candida overgrowth in my mouth for over a year now. I was really hoping it was unrelated. Ive been to the doctor a bunch for it already. Tried a lot of meds. Been to multiple specialists and had tons of bloodwork. I dont drink and I try to limit sugar. It always comes back

To be clear, I am not a medical professional. I was only asking the question; I do NOT know that this is the cause.

Yeast lives on the skin, some people are more sensitive to it. Steroid cream and powder. Always keep the area dry and yeast will not be able to grow there. Powder before activity that will make you sweat, after sweating, wash and dry thoroughly then apply powder. If you go to the Dr they can prescribe powder with antifungals in it.

There's not fluid underneath its just tender and in some places open skin

Looks like jock itch or anal yeast. Try a topical anti fungal. Should be available over the counter for a few bucks. Find something containing clotrimazole.

I would try petroleum jelly or A&D and skip the thongs for a while until it heals. Regular underwear. Not really speaking from my nursing experience but I personally have had this and I think it’s some sort of chafing. Vaseline for a few days usually clears it up for me. Make sure it’s fully dry after the shower before applying.
