• Meta • [Meta] Upcoming changes in r/AppHookup: New deal posting rules to maintain a higher standard of quality.

In response to an abrupt increase in rule-breaking posts appearing on this subreddit in 2025, we are going to implement some new systems to ensure that the r/AppHookup community remains safe from rug pulls and outright scams alike, as well as enforce a higher standard for the apps allowed in here.

What the big change?

Every new deal/offer post in r/AppHookup is (soon) going to be pre-approved by the moderators before it appears in the subreddit. A human moderator will download and check every app before it is posted here, as discussed below.

While we cannot promise that every app that is approved will be of exceptional quality but what we will certainly ensure is that the basic premise of this subreddit, that is discovering deals and discounts on downloadable apps is fulfilled by keeping out the rule breakers. Still there is a criteria by which we are going to judge what apps are allowed here.

What will be the criteria for approval?

It’s mostly going to be about enforcement of our existing rules with two major changes:

  1. The Launch deal rule (where we didn’t allow any app which was released less than 2 months ago) is going to be deprioritised. The main purpose of this rule was to keep out buggy and unfinished apps, which will be addressed by the new rule below.

  2. Apps posted in r/AppHookup must be of a high quality, which consists of, but is not limited to:

  • responsive and polished user interface
  • should be easy to understand and use, or should offer clear guidance on how to use it
  • should support the latest technologies of the platform which it belongs to (as much as possible)
  • app onboarding (the first few screens of questions and feature details before an app starts) should be relevant and not drawn out unnecessarily
  • vibe-coded apps or apps made without much care to the end result will be judged on merits and are subject to rejection if found unpolished/buggy
  • no mandatory collection of user details
  • no unnecessary login requirements or registrations (an exception may be made if the app is able to provide some value for it, like cross-platform syncing or multi-device licenses)
  • no exorbitant price tags (and any app which has a weekly subscription, whether discounted or not, will be automatically rejected)
  • an app’s developer shouldn’t have a history of acting against consumer interest (such as by revoking existing entitlements to force subscriptions or selling off an app after gaining users from free promotions)

When are these changes going to happen?

We are currently testing the AutoModerator setup to make this happen. These changes will likely be enforced within this month and a new announcement post will be made at that time.

Then why are you announcing this now?

Because community feedback about upcoming changes is always important. If you have anything to say about this new system of posting in r/AppHookup (whether positive or negative) then you may comment below.

Note: There will be no change in your ability to comment on posts in r/AppHookup. The changes are only being made to top-level posts/threads. We have always encouraged civil discussion here.

• Meta • [Meta] r/Apphookup’s posting rules are changing to keep up with offers that bypass AppStore IAP mechanisms.

Edit: Rules were slightly modified to indicate that Mac developers selling from their own websites/other stores are broadly exempted from complying with AppStore rules which has always been the norm.

Note: iOS developer is understood to be a developer making apps for iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, watchOS, VisionOS, or all of them hereafter.

  • No iOS developer or Mac developer preferring to offer a deal to an AppStore app -without exception- is allowed to offer anything on r/Apphookup that is not sold normally via the AppStore. Why? To ensure that subscription-only apps, which do not sell lifetime licenses, cannot take advantage of r/Apphookup readers to inflate their AppStore rankings and also to ensure compliance with Rule 3.1.1 of Apple’s App Review Guidelines: “In-App Purchase: If you want to unlock features or functionality within your app, (by way of example: subscriptions, in-game currencies, game levels, access to premium content, or unlocking a full version), you must use in-app purchase. Apps may not use their own mechanisms to unlock content or functionality, such as license keys, augmented reality markers, QR codes, cryptocurrencies and cryptocurrency wallets, etc.”

  • If an iOS developer (or Mac developer preferring to offer a deal to an AppStore app) wishes to offer a license to their app via registration of an in-app account (thereby bypassing AppStore IAPs) then it is compulsory to provide proof of acceptance of such an upgrade pathway by AppStore review team to the moderators beforehand via moderator mail and disclose such account requirement in the post. Provided that the in-app account is being created on your own servers (over which you have direct control of modification), the proof of purchase is available to you and not outsourced to a third-party receipt validator like RevenueCat or Adapty.io. To simplify, the app developer must have the means to directly restore the entitlement if it is somehow lost from their servers.

  • If your iOS or Mac app on the AppStore falls under the ambit of reader apps and has been accepted on the AppStore as such then naturally you are allowed to offer deals outside the AppStore.

  • r/Apphookup does not recognise in-app entitlements made through RevenueCat or Adapty.io or similar solutions because app developers do not have direct control over the working of these services and cannot be trusted to restore such entitlements when lost without the means to do so (based on previous instances observed in r/Apphookup). To simplify, use AppStore IAPs and don’t try to trick us.

  • Mac developers preferring to offer a deal through their own websites or third-party stores other than the Apple AppStore are welcome to do so according to the existing rules of r/Apphookup. Our intention is not to interfere with the thriving market outside of the AppStore on Mac devices.

  • Deals offered through AppStore promo codes are allowed as usual according to existing rules. Deals offered through internal app specific codes are not allowed unless the code is implemented only to unlock an AppStore based offer inside your app (that is the in-app entitlement to premium features should be granted through the AppStore). This should enable developers to run small scale promotions on the subreddit.

Note: These rules don’t discourage your selling of multi-platform packages where codes for iOS apps (or Mac apps on the AppStore) are a part of the deal provided that:

  1. The access to the aforementioned apps should be through the AppStore promo code mechanism, or
  2. A proper receipt/proof of purchase should be provided with the sale with clear mention of the platform specific entitlements received along with time period of entitlement and the access to iOS apps should be linked to an account which is retrievable, or
  3. The iOS apps are only companion apps to the full-featured Mac/Windows/Linux apps (in which case account-based entitlements outside the AppStore are allowed).

Feel like we missed something? Do let us know in the comments.

iOS Universal [iOS] [Markepi: Watermark & Photo Frames] [Lifetime Pro $4.99 to $1.99] [Watermarks, camera EXIF frames and signatures for photos and videos, all on device]

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
8 Upvotes

Hi all, I'm the developer of Markepi, so full disclosure: this is my app.

Lifetime Pro is $1.99 instead of $4.99 until October 31. It's the first time it has been on sale.

What it does:

  • Watermarks for photos and videos: your name in a choice of fonts, your logo (transparent PNG), or a hand-drawn signature
  • 12 photo frame styles that read your real camera data (camera, lens, aperture, shutter, ISO)
  • Custom borders: size, caption and keyline, per style or for all
  • Content Credentials (C2PA) on photos: creator and copyright sealed into the file
  • Shares straight to any app without saving a copy to your camera roll
  • Keeps your photo's metadata, HDR and quality
  • Everything happens on your phone, nothing is uploaded

The app is free to download. Without Pro, exports carry a small Markepi mark. Pro removes the mark and keeps full quality. Lifetime is a one-time purchase; there are also monthly ($0.99) and yearly ($2.99) plans.

No ads, no account. Happy to answer questions.

iOS Universal [iOS] [$2.99 → FREE LIFETIME] Looks by Frido: your wardrobe, outfits and packing in one place

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
66 Upvotes

I built Looks mostly because I got tired of packing the same things over and over again and never remembering what I usually take.

It started pretty much as a lazy way to save what I pack, and then slowly turned into a place where I keep my clothes, put outfits together, and plan what to wear for trips.

That’s basically still the point of it. Keep everything visual, keep it easy, don’t turn getting dressed into a whole project.

###
For the next 72 hours, it’s completely free.
$2.99 → $0.00
###

Download it during the offer and it’s yours to keep.

No sign-ups. No subscriptions. No in-app purchases.

If you try it, let me know what you think!

Android [Android] Screentide [Lifetime Gold $19.99 → Free] [Screen-time manager with calendar sync, smart triggers & dial-up speed throttling]

Thumbnail
promies.net
28 Upvotes

Hey all,

I'm the developer of Screentide, a flexible screen-time manager for Android.

I'm giving away 495 lifetime Screentide Gold licences, currently valued at $19.99.

Screentide is a flexible screen-time manager built especially for Android that helps you cut back on distracting apps and websites using smart triggers, schedules and different levels of intervention, from subtle friction through to a strict block.

A few things that make it different:

  • 🐢 Slow distracting apps and websites down to near dial-up speeds instead of completely blocking them. Text and lighter content can remain usable, while videos and other rich media become much less tempting.
  • 🌑 Darken gradually dims distracting apps as your usage builds, adding subtle visual friction before you reach the point of needing a hard block.
  • ⏸️ Pause or Block when you want a stronger intervention.
  • 📅 Calendar integration lets rules automatically run during matching events, such as work, study or meetings. You don't even need to open the app (because that's the point, right?).
  • 📍 Smart triggers include Wi-Fi, location, charging state and NFC/QR scans.
  • ⏰ Flexible scheduling with recurring weekly schedules, one-off periods and timers.
  • 📱 Apps + websites can be included in the same rules, with presets for adult, social, streaming and gambling sites.
  • 📊 Hourly usage tracking and trends show when you use your phone most, with day, week, month and longer-term views.
  • 🔒 No account required. Screentide runs locally on your device.

Free vs Gold

While you can use all the core features for free, Screentide Gold is for more advanced setups. It unlocks:

  • More than 3 rules
  • More than 1 location trigger, synced calendar
  • Combining multiple trigger conditions or actions within a rule
  • Longer visible history of usage data

This is a lifetime unlock, not a subscription!

Giveaway

🎁 495 × Screentide Gold lifetime licences
💰 Currently $19.99, free for this giveaway
(Gold will increase to $39.99 after the early-bird period.)

Feedback would be great, especially if something doesn't work as expected. Android development in this space is tricky because different devices and OS versions can behave differently, and I haven't been able to test every device.

If you do run into an issue, please report it through the feedback form in the app so I can get to the bottom of it.

Hope it helps users cut down on their screen time!

iOS Universal [iOS] [EarPal Translator] [Pro Lifetime IAP $39.99 to $2.99 with code] Live multi speaker conversation translation that runs entirely on your device

Lifetime Pro for $2.99 with the code below, down from $39.99. One time unlock, not a subscription. Nothing bills you later. 25,000 redemptions, and the code works for everyone, so there is nothing to claim in the comments. Good until 31 October.

https://apps.apple.com/redeem?ctx=offercodes&id=6761786603&code=EARPAL299

EarPal is the iPhone version of those palm sized translator gadgets from airport gift shops. Tap, speak, and the other person taps and speaks back in their language. It also does passive listen, where you leave the phone on the table and it captions everyone, colour coded per voice, so you can follow a dinner where three people keep switching languages. All of it runs on the phone. Audio and photos never leave the device.

It has grown a fair bit since launch. There is a watch app with a walkie talkie button, so the phone can stay in your bag. You can share a voice message or a recording from Files, Mail or WhatsApp straight into it and the transcript and translation start on their own. You can export a whole WhatsApp chat and bring it in as a conversation to translate and search. There are Shortcuts actions for translating audio files and text. Camera mode translates menus and signs in place.

Free gives you 60 minutes of listening a month. Lifetime drops the limit and adds searchable history.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/earpal-translator/id6761786603

Two honest limits. It is iPhone only. And the transcript question and answer feature needs a device new enough for Apple Intelligence, so on older phones you get everything except that.

I'll be in the comments answering questions.

Multi-Platform [MacOS/iOS] [Rainbow Craft + Rainbow of Desire][Pro → FREE with code, until Sep 30][Plan your week on Mac, catch 5-minute gaps on iPhone]

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
43 Upvotes

Likes and App Store reviews are a source of strength for solo developers.

Every planner I've used starts from an empty week. Seven blank columns, and you fill them with everything you want to get done. It looks doable every Sunday night, and by Wednesday it's clearly not. The week was never empty. Sleep, meals and work had already taken most of it before I wrote anything down. So I built the planner I wanted, as two apps that share one to-do list.

Rainbow Craft (Mac) is where you plan. It starts from the hours you can't take back. A week is 168 hours. Lay down sleep, meals, work and exercise as fixed routines, and it shows you what's really left. In my case it was about 46 hours, not 168. Then you drag your to-dos into that time.

Rainbow of Desire (iPhone) is where the day actually happens. You're away from the desk, you have five minutes, and you need to know what you can pick up right now.

How the two work together

Capture anywhere, plan at the desk. A thought on the street goes into the iPhone app or its Share sheet. When you sit down at the Mac, it's already in the list, ready to drag onto a day. Same list, two sizes of time. Break a to-do into steps and the app sorts each step as a fragment (something that starts cold and finishes in five minutes) or a block (something that needs protected time). Blocks go into your week on the Mac. Fragments show up on the iPhone's Lightning widget, which shows one step you can do right now. Checked off in one place, done in both. Finish a step on your phone in the elevator and it's gone from the Mac by the time you're back. Nothing is tracked twice. Two views of one week. The Mac shows how much free time is left. The iPhone's rainbow grid shows how crowded each day is, with overlapping plans in darker colors, so you can spot a crowded Thursday while you're still on the train.

On the Mac Fixed routines first, so free time is a real number instead of a hopeful one. Drag a to-do onto a day and it becomes a plan block. It snaps into a gap it fits, with "drop here: 14:00" under your cursor. Day view reads as one line, with gaps labeled ("1h 30m free"). Timer that asks for a "next first action" when you stop, so coming back is easy. Close tomorrow tonight. In the morning it shows just one first step. Daily check and weekly review. Routines like sleep and meals aren't checked, because you keep them, you don't achieve them.

On the iPhone Rainbow grid of your week's density, days by time of day. Steps with an order switch. Choose "in order" or "any order," and the list shows what's actually available now. Home and Lock Screen widgets: your top to-do, the Lightning step, and the rainbow. Share extension to add a to-do from any app.

Free vs Pro, plainly: planning, routines, to-dos, steps, the timer, reviews and iPhone–Mac sync are free in both apps. Pro unlocks the longer-range features. On Mac: 8-week trends, reusing another week's plan, exporting reviews and sharing your schedule. On iPhone: widgets, calendar import, sharing and stats.

- Pro is free this month with code SEPT. The two apps are separate on the App Store, so redeem both: Mac promo code more than 10000 (Rainbow Craft): https://apps.apple.com/redeem?ctx=offercodes&id=6777737322&code=SEPT

- iPhone promo code more than 10000(Rainbow of Desire): https://apps.apple.com/redeem?ctx=offercodes&id=6755280882&code=SEPT

I'd genuinely like to hear where it falls down. The thing I'm least sure about is the split itself. Does "plan on the Mac, grab fragments on the iPhone" match how you actually work, or do you plan and do everything on one device? Happy to answer anything in the comments.

Android [Android] [Hard Graft Focus & Study Timer] [Free with £4.99 unlock → FREE LIFETIME UNLOCK → 500 promo codes] [A gritty, post-apocalyptic and industrial count-up timer with ranks and demotions]

Thumbnail
promies.net

Promies link above: 500 codes for free lifetime unlock. No strings attached.
Valid until Nov 30 2026 or when they run out. Redeem in the Play Store.

Hard Graft is a focus timer that treats you like a grownup.

There are no pomodoro rounds and no break bells, and no trees to plant. You clock on, you work for as long as you want, you clock off. The app writes down how long you worked for and adds it to a rolling seven-day total. That total decides your rank.

There are 24 ranks. You start as DEAD WEIGHT. Put the hours in and you climb. Ease off and you slide back down (consistency is what matters). The Regulator hands out the promotions and the demotions. It is a machine with no interest in your excuses. It just cares about hours. It is fair, and that is the nicest thing anyone will say about it.

HOW IT WORKS

• Flowtime. A count-up clock that runs until you stop it. Work at your own rhythm and clock off when you need a break, not when a bell says so.
• A rank ladder with 24 ranks that follow your rolling seven-day hours.
• Jobs: name what you are working on, tag each shift, and see statistics of where your hours went. Anything can be a 'job' (work, study, gym, cleaning...).
• 40 achievements to collect.
• Quiet mode. Switch off the ranks, the achievements and The Regulator, and keep the timer and the record. Some days you just want a stopwatch.
• No streaks and no record of demotions. You can recover from a bad week and leave no trace.
• You own your data. Export the whole thing and import it on a new phone.

WHAT TO USE IT FOR

Use it as a study timer for revision and exams, a work timer for deep work, a productivity timer for a side project or, in quiet mode, a plain stopwatch. Tag each shift to whatever you've been avoiding and the record shows where the hours went, so it doubles as a time tracker for freelance or study hours. My brother uses it to track his workouts. It runs offline and keeps counting with the screen off.

BUILT FOR PRIVACY

Everything stays on your phone. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. The app makes no network calls of its own. The only things that use the internet are Google Play's own billing and review prompt.

ONE OPTIONAL UNLOCK

The free version is the timer, the record, the jobs, the statistics and the ladder up to rank 13. One purchase (redeem the promo code above) unlocks the whole app and opens the remaining ten ranks, shows what it takes to collect each achievement, and adds two extra colour schemes. You get it once and it is yours. No subscription.

A NOTE FROM THE DEVELOPER

I built Hard Graft because I have ADHD and couldn't find a focus timer that worked the way I do. Most productivity timers want to be your friend, plant a tree for you, or charge you monthly for the privilege. I make this on my own, around a full-time job, so I have no reason to collect your data or rent you a subscription. I wanted a tool I would find useful (I use it every day), one with a personality, that tells me the truth about what I did and then minds its own business.

If that sounds like your kind of thing, clock on.

iOS iPhone [iOS] [Countdown Widget - Daytrove] [$19.99 → Free Lifetime] [countdowns and anniversaries in one app, with a real lunar calendar and holiday rules for 16 regions]

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
37 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm the developer of Daytrove. Pro Lifetime is free right now until Sep 25, 14:00 UTC (that's 10am ET / 7am PT).

What it does: it remembers every day that matters and reminds you before it arrives. Countdowns and anniversaries live in one place. A friend's birthday, the day you got together, the day you brought the cat home, the day you got the keys to your own place, the day your baby took their first steps, the exam coming up. Get reminded on the day, or however many days early you like.

You enter a day once and the app builds both views. The home screen answers "how long until", the Memories page answers "how far you've come". Add "Together" and the home screen counts down to your 2nd anniversary, while Memories shows "1 year 3 months so far". Add a birthday and it counts down to turning 18, while Memories shows "17 years 9 months so far".

There are seven themes, and switching one changes the cards, buttons, filter chips and page background together, not just an accent color. Backgrounds can be built-in patterns, a solid color, or your own photo. Day books let you sort days into groups like family, love, work or travel, with your own color and icon.

The lunar calendar is done properly: lunar birthdays and traditional festivals land correctly year after year, leap months included. Holidays follow the real rules for 16 regions (Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, the US, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Czechia, Brazil), including make-up workdays, with a badge that tells you whether a day is actually off. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets come in several sizes and recalculate at midnight, so the number you glance at is the right one.

Also: shareable cards in several styles, a retirement countdown with a progress bar, your own units (days, weeks, months, years or any combination), milestones like 100 days and 1000 days, a trash can for mis-taps, and Face ID lock.

Privacy: everything runs on your device. Your days, photos and settings stay local. If you turn on iCloud sync, the data goes into your own private iCloud database. No third-party analytics, no ad tracking.

Pricing: free download. Pro unlocks the extra themes and customization, and costs $1.99/month, $9.99/year, or $19.99 lifetime (free until Sep 24, then $9.99).

Hi everyone! I’m the developer of Sangati, a native iPhone and iPad practice companion for Hindustani classical musicians.

I built it to keep the main tools needed for daily riyaz together:

  • Tanpura with 12 Sa positions and fine tuning
  • Tabla playback for 11 taals, plus reference tables for 25 taals
  • Swarmandal with 8 raag tunings
  • Multitouch harmonium
  • On-device tuner that shows notes relative to your selected Sa
  • Audio and video recording with your voice/instrument and the accompaniment
  • Saved practice rooms and 10, 20 or 30-minute guided routines
  • Offline practice, no account and no ads

The app is a free download, and I’ve made Lifetime Pro unlock free as well for time being. It’s a one-time permanent unlock, not a subscription.
