Feedback is hard, and it can feel like you're being mean when you write "negative" comments on someone's hard work. While being encouraging is important, constructive feedback is one of the most crucial things you can give to your fellow animators. It will help them improve and achieve their goals. It might be your feedback that helps them reach a new milestone on their creative journey, whether that's getting an interview or reaching a thousand subscribers on Youtube.
By giving constructive feedback, you are also helping yourself become a better animator, because you need to stop and think about what actually makes an animation work.
A good way to give feedback is to point out something that was good with the animation, and something that's not quite reaching it's potential. If you're feeling stuck on that last part, here are a few questions you could try to answer in your feedback.
For example, if the story is meant to be funny - did you actually find it funny? Why did you, or why did you not? Did you like the main character? Were you confused by what was happening at any point?
If this is an animation that includes original characters, do you like how they look? Why, or why not? Was there any character that was hard to read?
Can you see what a character is feeling, are they happy, sad, angry? Does it seem to make sense with what they're saying or doing in the animation? What do you think the character is thinking?
For example, if a character is lifting a heavy box, does it feel heavy? Does the bouncing ball feel like it's bouncing or just moving up and down?
Is it too fast, slow, even? What do you think the tempo is currently like, and do you think the animation would look better in a different tempo?
Often, you want to feel something when watching an animation. If you're just feeling "meh", why is that? Why do you not think the animation is funny, sad, cool, informative, etc?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope these question can serve as a start for you. Share your tips and tricks for giving good feedback in the comments!
Here are a few examples of constructive feedback from old threads in this subreddit that all mention something good, and something that could be better:
"I'd say that the timing and the layout of the animation are good so far, but the camera movements are very quick and very jarring. Trying easing into these movements slower, don't be afraid to slow things down a tad to emphasize hits and reactions. Give the viewer some time to process what's going on!"
"It looks good, the facial expressions are spot on! I think it would be more comedic with a bit of anticipation before the final smile, to make the change in expression obvious."
"I applaud you for doing stop-motion (because it can be very annoying at times) but it was kind of hard to tell what was going on. Is it possible for you to move their limbs more and make more facial expressions?"

I’ve always been deeply fascinated by how the human brain and senses work, especially how we perceive the world. A while ago, I started wondering what blind people actually "see" – because the common answer "they just see black" didn't seem to tell the whole story.
I ended up doing a ton of research into how the brain adapts, what the difference is between being born blind vs. losing sight later, and visual phenomena like phosphenes. I found the topic so mind-blowing that I decided to create an animated series about it to explain the science simply!
I animated everything myself to make these concepts visual and easy to understand. I put a lot of time and effort into this project because it's a huge passion of mine, and I really wanted to share it with people who love learning new things.
Here is the video I made and animated: https://youtu.be/I5thLxq-b7E
I'd love to hear what you guys think of the animations or if you have any questions about the topic!

I've heard all of your feedback and critiques, please let me know how things look now! Remember this is far from finished and I have the basics involved to make sure the scene makes sense and is cohesive to what you see. Keep in mind that this is meant to be a lowpoly 3D animation akin to a Playstation 1 or 2 game, without any added filters to make it look old yet. I would like feedback on how things are looking now in terms of character movement and if you like the composition of my camera angles and environment. This project is still in the very early stages and want to make sure things look right, before I dive deeper into completing this. Any feedback or critique is welcome, please and thank you!

Hey, i am looking for some Feedback on my stop motion animation. I'm especialy interested in whether any parts feel too slow or to boring. Or if there are moments, that drag too long. But I am also happy with any other suggestion or criticism.
Have fun watching my video!

If there's anything to criticise at all, the weapon manipulation, consistency, camerawork, etc.

My work

This is my first attempt at traditional, hand-drawn animation. Overall, I'm happy and think I did a good job on the ease-in/out (for my first time!), but I think the large reveal at the end lacks punch. Should I drop frames? Make it go bigger?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

This is my first full cinematic 3D animated film, made in Blender.
I'd really appreciate honest feedback, especially on the animation, lighting, camera work, pacing, and overall presentation.
Constructive criticism is very welcome — I'm trying to improve with each film. https://youtu.be/LrjTwuVVjLo?si=BMtk6Cx52PWkDgTq

I’m currently animating a pokemon battle against a gengar. I want to have the gengar pop out of this shadow floor. I’m having trouble putting it all together. What are some tricks I could use to make the animation better? Think about how in a pokemon game the pokemon comes from the left and the trainer comes from the right.

I'm working on a lowpoly 3D animated pilot with most of what you see is hand modeled by myself in Blender. I'd like your help with any feedback or critique of my current scene and how my characters move compared to the audio. I want to make something great, and would appreciate anything you can give to help this look the best it can be, thanks!

I just finished a 22.5-second vertical reel for a project called Mobile Architecture Lab 3, and I’d appreciate a fresh pair of eyes on the edit.
The visuals are HTML/CSS animations captured through Playwright, then assembled with FFmpeg. I made the narration locally with Kokoro-82M-8bit using its am_adam voice—it’s a synthetic English male voice, not specifically Indian-accented. The music is an original 120 BPM electronic bed I built with Python/DSP and ducked under the speech.
video: https://youtube.com/shorts/knHMyE2OezU
I’m mainly unsure about two things: does the pacing give each idea enough time to land, and is the voice clear over the music on a phone speaker? Specific moments you’d cut or rebalance would be especially helpful.

It’s based on a recurring maladaptive daydream I wanted to understand better. So excited to have finally finished it and would love to hear any feedback you have \(^v^)/
