Control your kids!!
A cashier at the CircleK in Summerfield was pepper sprayed 2 nights ago by a group of kids who were hanging out and smoking in the parking lot beforehand. I only know of this because I went there shortly after and was handcuffed by cops thinking I was a suspect (cleared within 30 secs tho)
Parents in this city are seriously failing seeing how kids behave with my own eyes and the shit that happens here. Control your fucking kids and belt them if needed cause this is unacceptable, most of the crime here is your children.

I don't agree with the belt your kids sentiment but I absolutely 110% agree that parents these days need to be doing more parenting than the bare minimum in between staring at their phones or passing on generational trauma...

Again that was me being a bit dramatic. Main point is is that parents need to start making an effort.

This is awful to hear. I've been here for so long, and I know all the workers at the Circle K's. Such amazing people that don't deserve to be treated like this. No one does. Be better. I hope they got charged.

Fr, I talked to the manager there and he thinks maybe some of the kids got caught but he's not 100% sure.

Look at the census data, there is a massive cohort of very bored pre-teens and teens in Airdrie. There is nowhere near enough stuff for these kids to do considering we have one community center and one library.
Also I get you're frustrated, but it's been proven that hitting your kids actually results in worse behavior and not better.

Boredom should never be a fucking excuse to commit a crime. And yeah, Pepper Spraying someone is a serious case of assault with a weapon, which carries a helluva lot of consequences.

Assault with a PROHIBITED weapon no less.

Belting your kids is also assault with a weapon

While I agree with you, I'm fairly confident that OP wasn't ACTUALLY advocating for the belting of children.

"Nothing to do" is not an excuse especially when we live so close to things to do. We have a gamimg/VR arcade, a pool, parks, fishing, etc In this city so that's not a realistic excuse here IMO. 100% more entertainment than what we had 10-15 years ago, we weren't committing blatant crimes to solve boredom. And look at crossfield, 1000% more of a boring town and not nearly as much kids committing crime there...

I also see that a number of them are from somewhat well off families. Parents have too much faith in their kids when they take off on the e-scooters to hang out with their buddies.
Like other generations, other kids are trying to keep up, and will do bolder things to be part of it all.
So this is not new, there are just new ways to be shit heads.

There are cost and transportation barriers to these activities. If a kid can't access the activities in the city, they are going to find other things to do.
I'm not just saying that to be contradictory. I regularly met with Airdrie's Youth Engagement Strategy group with the City, and this is an ongoing topic of conversation. There have been safety and inclusivity focus groups being run that I have participated in as well and this always comes up.

This is like the kid that sprayed it in a bathroom and it mixed with the cleaning chemicals and cause a gas buildup at the yankee McDonalds years ago (pre Covid) like one; how do kids get access to bear spray? And two: why can’t people parent their kids so they don’t do shit like that?

PSA = Belt your kids

Well I was harsh but thats not my main point. My point is parents need to start parenting. This behavior is normally the result of absolutely no real consequences.

This happens everywhere, and isn't new either. I'm not saying "kids will be kids" and we should just accept it, kids have always been dicks.

That is true, I'm a young adult myself and I remember when I was a shithead, pepper spraying a random cashier is going over the line of being a dickhead kid. I'm also making this post as a warning because I know how unhinged some residents are towards minors and they will absolutely beat your children if you dont teach them how to be a respectful member of society.
Most of a public nuisance I was was being a loud mouth at the skatepark and building TP forts in Walmart and I was almost assaulted countless times. Pepper spraying a clerk would probably get you sent to the hospital if locals saw you, that's how I felt when I heard about it.

I’m not saying kids deserve to have shock collar put on them…. but I’m not arguing against crotch spawn having shock collar.

Womp womp, you're probably one of the inattentive parents raising a criminal....
If you had the ability to read further you'd see beating kids is not my main point it's the fact that parents need to actually start giving out consequences.
