Update: to all the people who helped, thank you. And if you replied to my last post with negativity here’s your proof.

I think it's important to have evidence before making online claims as well

So let's play this out. Let's say you go for a walk around your neighborhood, you pass by some shops, you pass by some ponds, you pass by a school, you pass by some kids playing soccer in a field. You take a break on a bench cause it's nice outside or whatever. When you get home someone has posted a picture of you on Reddit or Facebook with you on your phone on the bench saying you were taking pictures of kids playing and for everyone to look out for this creep. Does this strike you as a good idea? You can't conceive of anyway this could be a bad thing?

Clearly OP didn't post the picture. He reported the incident and was asking for help. He didnt describe the guy who did it. The incident was reported to police, they got the access to the footage and they posted it. The photo wasn't released until police got involved and had access to cctv footage.

police statement is okay but i agree just people posting pics is not to my liking reddit loves a moral circlejerk though they feind for that quick rush of moral superiority and a sense of shared community bonding

so you prefer to aid the criminal instead of being a community member and helping find this guy so THE RCMP can investigate?

wrong side of the fence skinner

You're asking to help the RCMP. The RCMP weren't initially involved and no case number provided.

Op initially asked for help without having police involved.

Two different posts two different reactions. We don't want vigilantes or kids trying to trap people in vans because of social media influences
