Resonance I'm so sorry for doubting you Asobo Studio, never happening again

I just finished resonance and holy it was sooo amazing. The sibling story of certain 2 characters got me just as heartbroken as Amicia and Hugo's story. I guess the hole that requiem left in me never healed and seeing those two, especially at the ending got me BAWLING my eyes out just like requiem because of the tragic story of another pair of siblings who couldn't grow up happily. As an older sister with a younger brother who is almost 7 years younger than me, and the fact that I had to protect and support him a lot throughout his childhood and also the fact that he always clung to me like how Hugo did to Amicia, these games always had a different level of emotional impact on me hahah

Anyway I'm getting off track here. Just wanted to say I loved this game, loved Sophia's character too and ofc the soundtrack and the visuals omg.. Insane (in a positive way ofc). I wasn't sure of the combat from the trailers but I'm glad I was proven wrong! I had lots of fun and I really recommend this game to everyone who still hasn't played it! Also Asobo Studio, you definitely won me over (like you haven't had already) but now I 100% know they've still got it and never doubting them again. Turned me into a very loyal consumer!

Resonance My review - 8.5/10 (Spoilers) Spoiler

I'm a veteran of the first two games. I thought this one was pretty damn great. I wondered how well they'd do without Hugo & Amicia, and whether Sophia had enough wasta to carry a game by herself. I would say that this came through in spades!

I posted before, fighting people face to face is probably the biggest change and the best part. We sneak around, do stuff, and then get to schwack some guys. I would agree with many other critics in that it could use some more polish, and was kind of medium-to-OK, but it was a welcome change to sniping people with Amicia and then getting annihilated if you got found. I had trouble with the parry system - I dont think anyone can do it better than Sekiro. Like several other games with a parry system, they do not quite get it right. Do you parry when it hits you, right before it hits you...? I think this was kind of fiddly. But at least we can fight, and it's very cathartic.

One thing that did not change were the unbelievable graphics and art direction. This is one of the best looking games of all time. No notes there.

I think the pacing was a little iffy, especially at the start. It hits the gas around chapter 4. I think the character swap was an awesome way to change pace and do some things differently instead of stay with Sophia in a big gross depressing underground cave system. I think that in the last third, we could have used some more breaks with brighter-lit areas, even if the gameplay was mostly underground. Having a Theseus swap fixed a lot of this imo.

I'm not sure how I felt about the main enemy. Instead of a gigantic mass, unending swarm of rats, now we have a bizarre, unkillable ash-snake-worm thing. I think this did what it was supposed to do in the game, and there was a devastating scene at the end when the source is revealed, but maybe it's just me - I really dont like games where the only thing you can do is run away. I'm not an Alien Isolation guy. But again, did it work? I think so, it's just not my cup of tea overall

The voice-acting, like the first two, is sublime. Really loved the hell of this aspect. And I also loved the cameo at the end.

For regular peeps, this should be accessible and enjoyable. I usually try to buy games on sale, or at some kind of discount, but this game is well worth full price. For veterans of the first two games, this is mandatory playing.

Free Talk How ending of each game has impacted you?

Each game is good on it's own terms, but for me Innocence was just like: Cool, we beat the bad guy, plague is over, wished Rodric and Arthur lived, but didn't really mourn them. It was fine but left you wanting more.

Requiem was a fricking nuke into heart. pure, unfiltered heart-break. Took me couple days to recover.

As for Resonance it was... okay? Cool that we defeated the monster, but now we are walking alone to the shore to get our ship and leave. It's not sentimental or anything. Just okay

Resonance Combat in Resonance

Currently playing through Resonance and have gotten to Chapter 10 but one of the issues that I have with the combat in this game is glaring obvious here.

I’m playing on Nightmare difficulty so not sure how this on other difficulties but the arrows from archers have significant tracking on them. I’d be ok if there were maybe more archers there but having arrows bend at will to follow me is a bit much.

Another issue I have is the fact that the combat abilities that Sophia and Theseus have aren’t linked to each other, with Sophia being exceptionally stronger than her counterpart.

Through the skill upgrades (which I suppose lore wise is Sophia being ‘more in tune’ with Theseus and thus gathering skills from them) you can get some really nice abilities like being able to parry red melee attacks and ‘Echo’s Return’, allowing you to throw enemies into their allies. So since you’re mainly playing as Sophia, you get to try out different play styles/strategies that suit you best. Then you get a Theseus section and the majority of these skills are gone. Even if you have an upgrade on Sophia it won’t carry over to Theseus so you can no longer parry red melee attacks or chain a second a dodge. It kind of upsets the flow of the game.

Another issue that affects combat is the character upgrades. On Nightmare you get hit twice and you die. Fair enough, you’d expect the early game to be rough and then as you progress, it should even out more. Not sure if this changes later but up until now there’s been no health upgrades and the only upgrades you get are from the charms and weapons you find.

Problem with the charms is they’re chance based. So instead of having an upgrade that’s always active and will trigger (like the sword effects do), if you were really unlucky you could have a case where their effects never activate.

Overall I am enjoying the game, the music and voice acting is really good and some of the environments are amazing. But the combat so far is the weakest part for me. It’s not terrible by any means, but I don’t think it’s anything to write home about and could do with some improvements.

Requiem: Question What should have Vaudin done to convince Amicia? Spoiler

I realise that he was written to be as obviously villainous as possible, but by the end of the game, it's revealed that any and all hope for a cure was the Macula playing mind games. A very hypothetical scenario in which Vaudin keeps the rest of the game from happening and stopping the Macula, what should he have said or done to make Amicia realise it?

Really love the shawl and elbow armor on the right arm. Glad she kept this armor for all the games.

Theory Ended all three APT games, I should have taken a break after Requiem.

Maybe it's because I played all three in past 2 weeks instead of when they came out and felt the experience far superior in first 2 games. I understand Resonance would feel like rain after 4 years of drought for APT fans. I think I would have loved Resonance far more if I played older games when they came out but right after ending Requiem, I just don't think Resonance could top it.

Don't get me wrong Resonance is still a very good game, but it feels too much like Tomb Raider and the mystery is very predictable if you know even a tiny bit of mythology, plus we already seen fate of 2 carriers by now so this 3rd one was no different. I feel my Resonance experience was spoiled by playing all three right after one another.

Which is why I think continuing Amicia next is far better arc than introducing another carrier + protector story next. I might get downvoted to oblivion for this as in a lot of ways as it feels like her and Hugo's story has concluded but I also am positive that this carrier + protector won't work as well as it did in 1 & 2.

Theory About Next Title:

I have seen some theories that Hugo's body is not buried and at the end it is only a monument that makes it a very good set piece if Order got their hands on his body, far more realistic set piece than another carrier showing up right after Hugo. Also, I noticed that Amicia is the only protector that out lived her carrier and historical context can back this as the plague returned in 1361 it is literally called "The Plague of Children" considering how Amicia is now focusing on other children this is a very natural set piece on somehow Hugo didn't fully die or Order got its hands on his body and another wave came. It is reasonable for Order to try to experiment on a carrier after his death, we know they didn't do it for Basilis as his chamber was untouched.

I just don't think they should wrap up characters this good it has been after so long I felt that game had good protagonists that it reminded me of Altair and Ezio level of attachment from AC games.

I won't like a modern world game (at least not yet as it will be another carrier + protector story which we have 3 by now) I think characters and their relationships are far more important than macula, again IDK why I keep drawing parallels with AC games but AC games were good when their characters were good and connected, soon as they started throwing in XYZ people and the only thing that was consistent was the templars it went stale.

Resonance I guess I’m just confused as to what ties Sophia to Crete in the first place

>!It’s implied that the blood Sophia is injected with is the macula, but how did the order get it and how is it connected to Ariadne? Am I crazy that there’s no clear explanation - I guess Asterion’s disease is a form of the macula and that’s the point of drawing back to their story? How is the dust alive? (lol)

I played it over about a month and just finished it this AM so it’s possible I missed something, I also think some similar stuff is just fully left unexplained in the first two games so maybe I’m thinking too hard about it 🫠!<

Free Talk Why doesn't A Plague Tale blow up online?

I’ve been wondering about this for a while. It feels strange that a series like A Plague Tale barely gets noticed. You look around and almost every game manages to attract huge attention, even the mediocre ones. Yet when you search for Plague Tale content, it’s rare to find anything that reaches a large audience.

And that’s honestly surprising, because all three games have the kind of visual quality that usually gets shared everywhere. The art direction is incredible, the lighting is perfect for screenshots, and the environments are some of the most beautiful in any modern game. The story across the trilogy is one of the most emotional and well written narratives in recent years. It has everything that normally makes a game stand out, with strong characters, dramatic moments, and genuinely memorable scenes that stay with you long after you finish playing.

Whatever the reason, it feels like the trilogy deserves far more recognition than it gets.

Requiem: Discussion Loved every bit of this game

After Requiem I just wanted so much more of this world and gameplay and asobo studios did not disappoint one bit..

From the get go the graphics we're so stunning..the details & texture on the characters and environment were just breathtaking..

And the music ..my god was a treat for the ears...as soon as I heard the theme song in the main menu after booting it up for the first time I just sat there appreciating that brilliant main tune..

Apparently people did not like the combat? Idk but I absolutely loved it..by the end got so OP I just wanted an infinite boss rush mode or something..

I personally really liked the story and how the macula or curse or whatever has been around for centuries and the idea that it stems from people's suffering is so beautiful yet tragic.. would've liked there to be an actual minotaur but that's not a big deal lol ..

The puzzles didn't seem that hard to me but Ig that's subjectiv3..

One thing I'm kinda shocked by is people not liking this entry because it was not a carbon copy of the 1st 2 ...heard people saying they didn't like not having the dynamic of amicia and Hugo .. I get it I loved those 2 as well but disliking this game for being different is just weird imho..props to the devs for bringing a new character into the universe with new mechanics...not everything can and should be about amicia & Hugo.. especially in such a vast world full of so much lore..

Loved the end credits scene... When that music hit I got so emotional..so many memories of amicia and Hugo came shooting back..very few games left such mark on me like those first 2 did..

Amicia looked kinda tired...maybe a bit beat down ..maybe from a fight? Idk but I so hope we get an amicia and Sophia game!!

A wonderful 8.5/10 from this underrated studio!! Looking forward to what they have in store for us...just hope they get to make it...

Resonance Finally tried A Plague Tale: Resonance and it feels a lot like Uncharted games

I'm only a few hours in but walking around and exploring the island really reminded me of Uncharted, not because of the setting alone but because of how good the exploration feels and finding stuff using the book makes it so much more fun than just following a marker, this part also reminds me of TloU2 when you have to use the map to explore the city, it's refreshing after I've played so many linear games these days where you just follow a marker on an open world map, even worse if it's linear. The game is much better than I thought!

Resonance Figuring out what the monster in Resonance means for the lore of the series Spoiler

So by the end of Resonance, what we discover about the Minotaur seems to be in line with what we discovered in Requiem - we have a young male Carrier, an older female Protector, and because the Carrier was locked away he passed the third threshold and became a big horrible apocalyptic creature.

But there are elements that aren't the same. The way the Macula manifested in this Carrier seems to have been totally different aside from the same sensitivity to light. Instead of rats and a plague, it has giant tentacles and the ability to create zombies.

He also seemed to be much longer lived than we've seen before. Basileus in Requiem seemed to be completely dead after less than a thousand years in isolation, even if the Macula itself was perhaps just dormant. Whereas Asterion seems to have stayed 'alive' for over a thousand years. Perhaps because he was empowered by the human sacrifices made in Minos' time?

Resonance doesn't really get into the lore of the Macula and the Order in the way Requiem did, so we don't really know much about why Asterion is the way he is or how he fits into the wider story.

So I'm curious what people think. Are there a bunch of different Maculas around the world that manifest in different ways? Is there one central source behind them all? And what is it that enforces this recurring pattern of infected young boys with older sisters as their guardians?

Resonance Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is more than spinoff. It's one of the tightest third person narrative action games we've ever gotten. Engaging story, frenetic combat and stimulating puzzles make Sophia's past something you need to experience.

Resonance Question about the frescoes depecting the Minotaur and the Minotaur Spoiler

>!When we are entering the ruins, we see frescoes depicting the bull Minotaur with tentacles destroying a city. What is this depicting? If this is depicting the Minotaur destroying the Minoan civilization then who made it since all the Minoans were killed by the Minotaur?

Also, we always see only one tentacle until the very end but the petrified bodies seems to have been killed in groups on the spot. Why doesn't the creature use multiple tentacles to try to kill Sophia?!<
