>AI is used to commit crimes.

This is the problem with AI, these token peddlers don’t have any morals and only want to make money.

>AI being used to commit crimes is reported.

How could the tech company violate people’s privacy? It’s not like any other big tech company monitors their product?

There’s a valid discussion to be had over companies reporting users to authorities over future actions that could be used to harm others or themselves. That discussion is nowhere to be had on r/technology.

Genuinely do people not have a problem with reductive judgement like this?

This is the problem with [business within a capitalist society], they dont have any morals and only want to make money.

Everything wants to make money. From your farmer, to your kid's teacher, to your doctor. Your ultimate conclusion isnt wrong but the way you arrive there is so BS...

There's so many issue with AI being used to commit crimes, such as who is using it to commit crimes and how to stop it. It's not feasible to stop AI from being used to commit crime if you have basic knowledge of how to prompt. Barring every possible instance of words related to crime would have an AI so censored it cant even use the word blade. Even then you can probably bypass censors if you try hard enough.

This is like blaming knife maker for a knife being used to hurt a person instead of make food. And specifically a knife and not a gun because AI is meant to do a huge variety of task and not just kill.

Ultimately the problem is they are trying to create something with such a wide variety of uses it cannot be policed, it's usage HAS to be monitored and you HAVE to persecute the USER. Monitoring usage is in fact the ethical option here.

In this instance AI companies arent even at fault.

Am I saying ultimately AI companies are good? Fuck no. I wish every single data centers are destroyed and AI stopped for good, but that's a capitalism problem, a Sam Altman problem, an Nvidia problem, a government that uses AI to launch missile strikes problem, not an AI problem.

Reductive statement like that that is so easily refuted only contribute to muddying the waters and blind people to actual issues with AI, gives room for people in power to believe consumers are shallow minded. What we need is stringent regulations... Not that that's happening with who's in power in US.
