Noooo bernie and cezar fell for the bait :(

The only reason that AI firms constantly talk about "the dangers of superintelligent ai" is because it implies that they are appraoching true artificial intelligence, but more so that it distracts regulators from the actual mundane harms of their companies. It throws the whole conversation into this bizarre realm of sci-fi speculation where nobody can be right because its all completely untestable..... because AI doesn't exist and likely won't be based on current ML technology.

Almost.

The biggest reason why the leading Ai companies are demanding more restrictions, is because they're already in the lead.

They've started a race and they're leading the pack, so now they're requesting more hurdles be placed behind them on the race track to limit their competition from catching up.

But the regulations they are "requesting" are so vague as to be totally meanginless and unactionable. More than anything they want there to "regulations" that don't actually affect them but makes it look like they are cooperating with the government/public on their concerns.... concerns they totally invented and again, and totally unactionable.
