General Final update on PS5 from Swiggy Instamart: I got my full refund. Here's what it actually took to get there, and my honest thoughts on the whole thing

• Upvotes

Context : https://www.reddit.com/r/IndianGaming/s/7qKnoL8nOe

**TL;DR**: Got the full refund from Swiggy Instamart, but only after the post went viral, news coverage, and social pressure — direct contact with Swiggy and Sony alone wasn't moving anything. Sony's service center denied warranty again in person (same seller flagged for another customer that same day), and the return itself was a mess (food-delivery guy sent to pick up a PS5, broken app validation, a cancelled return, agents going silent on calls) before finally getting resolved. Had Consumer Court documents ready the whole time but chose to prioritize mental peace and public awareness over pursuing further compensation. Called Sony's own Sales team afterward and even they couldn't reliably tell me which local stores are authorised — confirming there's no real way for a consumer to check this themselves. Full writeup above for anyone who wants the details.

**The outcome**: Swiggy Instamart picked up the console and I received a full refund. But getting there cost real time and energy — days of back-and-forth with both Sony and Swiggy stonewalling me, making the original post, watching it go viral, news outlets picking it up, social accounts reposting and tagging both companies. That pressure is what actually moved things. Not politeness, not patience alone — visibility.

**On Consumer Court**: A lot of people suggested I file a case, and some even offered to help for free. I looked into it seriously — what it would take, what it would cost me out of pocket, how long it would run. I had every document ready to file. But I decided mental peace mattered more than chasing further compensation, and held off while giving the direct route one more real chance to resolve things.

**Swiggy's escalations team**: I was in contact with one agent at Swiggy Escalations throughout. On Oct 2, he asked me to wait another 48-72 hours, citing a holiday. By that point I'd already given them plenty of time, and getting asked for *more* time, again, with nothing concrete, was genuinely demoralizing.

**The Sony service center visit**: While waiting, I visited an authorized Sony service center (F1 Info Solutions & Services, Shastri Nagar) just to ask them to check my warranty status — no issues with the console, just wanted clarity. Coincidentally, another customer was there at the same time who'd bought Sony speakers from the *same seller* and was also denied warranty. They checked my invoice against the seller and denied me too. I pointed out the console is genuine and working, and that the warranty card itself says it's valid till Oct 2027 even without an invoice. Their response: "is se kuch nahi hota, authorised seller ka invoice chahiye aur warranty card" (roughly: "this doesn't mean much, we need an invoice and warranty card from an authorised seller"). They took my details, said they'd get written confirmation from Sony and send it to me — I never received anything, not even an acknowledgment. The attitude throughout was pure "policy is policy," regardless of the product being genuine.

**The pressure built, and then the return itself was its own ordeal.** On Oct 4, I got a call saying they'd arrange a pickup and refund — good news, I thought. Then:

- They sent a delivery rider on a cycle, with the insulated food-delivery bag they use for orders. He had no idea what he was picking up ("ye kya hai, baja hai kya" — "what is this, is it a speaker?") and obviously couldn't fit a PS5 in a food bag.

- He tried photographing it for the app to validate the return, but the app kept rejecting it.

- I then got a call saying my complaint "wasn't proper" because there were no images on the in-app ticket — despite every detailed email I'd sent to their Escalations team for days. He said he'd cancel the broken return and I'd need to raise a new one, promising it would still let me since he was cancelling it himself.

- It didn't. The app said the return window had closed. No way to raise a new one. No visible way to reach customer care beyond being redirected to email. i emailed repeatedly on the Swiggy escalations to call me asap.

- I found an old number from a previous call and got through. The moment I mentioned how serious this had gotten — the social media spread — the agent went silent on the call without hanging up. I kept saying hello, got no response, called back, same thing happened again. On the third call I directly confronted this, explained everything again, and was told she couldn't create a new return, I'd have to email Swiggy. She asked if the product was even working, and when I said yes, told me to just go claim the warranty at a service center — she had no idea what the actual issue was. I had to ask her to literally search "swiggy ps5" in a new tab for her to understand the scale of what was happening. Her tone changed after that, but the answer stayed the same: email Swiggy.

- I asked to speak to the original escalations agent I'd been dealing with. By coincidence, he called in while I was still on with her. I explained everything again. He created a new return on the spot, added the required images himself so the pickup could be validated, and I asked specifically that they send someone equipped to handle a high-value item this time.

- Pickup finally happened properly, and I received the refund the next morning.

I also got a call afterward from Swiggy Instamart's internal team, asking detailed questions — working condition, serial number, what the service center said, whether I'd shown the warranty card. They said they'd take this up directly with Sony. I told them I'm glad to help if it leads to a real fix for other Instamart buyers in this situation.

**Testing Sony's own sales department**: Since "buy only from an authorised seller" is the crux of this whole issue, I called Sony's Sales team afterward just to see how well *they* could actually help a buyer trying to do the right thing. I gave them my pincode and asked for authorised sellers in my area. They named Sony Center, and when I asked about Croma, Vijay Sales, Reliance Digital, they said "all authorised" — vague, no specifics. I asked them to find ones near me and give me the address, they didn't . then i asked about a specific local store near me which has plasystation banner on their store (Hari Om Electronics) — they had no information either way, she said they don't have that information. I then asked if there's *any* way for a regular customer to verify a store's authorisation status on the spot, since no seller is going to volunteer that they're unauthorised. They had no answer for that either.

If even Sony's own sales department can't reliably tell a customer who's buying in good faith which stores are authorised, buying a Sony product in India is effectively a gamble — and Sony reserves full right to deny your warranty afterward regardless.

**My take, for what it's worth**:

I've bought plenty of electronics over the years — laptops, phones, appliances, online and offline — and never once thought to verify a seller's manufacturer authorisation status. As a consumer, you're told to check the product: open-box delivery, working condition, genuine unit. If something's wrong, you contact the brand, they verify the serial number, and they handle it. That's the deal everywhere else. This entire process with Sony was not consumer-friendly.

Even granting that Sony has legitimate reasons to control its sales channels, the failure to actually enforce that — letting units reach unauthorised platforms at scale, for what multiple people in this thread and elsewhere say has been going on for a long time — is on Sony and the distribution chain, not the end consumer. My unit was a genuine India-market unit, BIS-certified, imported by Sony india. If units are leaking into unauthorised retail, that's a failure of their own control over their supply chain. And it's not as if Swiggy Instamart only just started selling consoles — people have reportedly been buying PS5s through them for a long time, i saw a post as old as 10 months ago where someone bought ps5 from swiggy instamart. Both companies know this is happening.

What I expected from Sony: verify the unit is genuine (it was), verify proof of purchase (I had it), and honour the warranty while pursuing the unauthorised seller separately, since that's an issue between Sony and their distribution, not between Sony and me. Instead, the message the whole way through was essentially "you're out of luck, and that's not our problem."

Swiggy Instamart's side wasn't much better — support is genuinely hard to reach for anything beyond a basic order issue, and for days all I got back were copy-paste apology templates with no actual movement.

I could have taken this to Consumer Court, and I still could if I wanted to. But I'm genuinely glad I chose to put my energy into raising awareness instead — if this pushes either company toward even a small policy change, that's worth more to me than one extra individual compensation payout.

To anyone else dealing with something similar: raise your voice, stay patient, stick to the facts, document everything. Every story like this one that gets told makes it a little harder for the next consumer to be dismissed the same way.

Other Best phone under ₹30k during upcoming Flipkart/Amazon sale?

Main requirements:

Flat display only

Good camera

Good battery life + fast charging

Smooth, well-optimized software

Good performance for daily use

Reliable and durable for 3–5 years

Good software update support

Prefer 8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage

Not a heavy gamer, so I care more about overall experience, camera, software and long-term reliability than raw performance.

The "Sales Season" is knocking at the door. My current phone is 5 years old, storage is suffocating and slowly walking towards certain death. 🥲 My budget is around 20k - 25k. I was suggested to buy an IQOO phone but i don't know the brand very well so I chose not to trust it. My choices are these....

Samsung Galaxy A55

OnePlus Nord Ce5

Poco X7 Pro

Which one would you choose?

No Flair recommend good phones under ₹35K

• Upvotes

I'm planning on buying a new mobile phone within 5 months and I'm pretty confused about which mobile phone to buy that'll last me good for ~5 years.

These are my requirements for the new phone.

Price: Under ₹35,000

Storage: 256GB

RAM: 8GB+

Battery: Good battery life

Charging: Fast charging

Camera: Great overall camera

Video: Very good quality + stabilization

Performance: Smooth, fast, minimal lag/hanging

Editing: Should handle photo/video editing smoothly

Processor: Strong enough for editing + multitasking

Longevity: Reliable for ~5 years

Software: Good long-term updates

Usage: Daily use + occasional editing

OS: Android

I had two phones in mind.

One is Pixel 7a and the other one is One Plus Nord ce5 just cause I liked how they looked like.

But turns out those two phones doesn't go with all of my requirements. Especially Pixel 7a.

Personally, I don't fw Motorola.

So anything else other than that brand would prolly suffice.

like,

Google Pixel

One Plus

Samsung S series

Vivo

Nothing

that is all. if anyone has any idea about phones close to my requirements, do share. it'll be kind of you :)

thank you!

I've been waiting for the BBD for months, hoping to get a good phone under ₹40K, but the prices seem to keep going up, my previous budget was 35k but I've stretched it to 40k

What would u suggest if

I need a good processor, bigger battery and good camera

I'll be using it for the next 5-6 yrs, so longer os support

I was thinking of OP13r but now it's not available anymore

Currently considering nord 6 or nothing 3 if it comes around 40k

Please give suggestions

Social Media Is it just me or did static ads on meme pages completely disappear?

• Upvotes

Was doomscrolling reels and realized i havent seen those weird poster ads on meme pages in forever lol. Earlier every random page had that ugly graphic at top or bottom of the meme for some crypto app or shady course... Most agencies realized people just scroll past them within 0.2 seconds. Instead, almost every brand is shifting budgets straight into clipping and UGC formats where creators remix their audio or movie clips.

Apparently agencies stopped paying those dead 500k pages upfront just for having followers. Friend in marketing told me brands are putting their budgets on platforms like Meme'd where you only get paid if the reel actually crosses view milestones. Basically pay per view scene chal raha hai via upi instead of fixed advance money.

kinda wild because now you dont even need a huge follower base to make cash... just basic capcut skills and knowing how to make people not swipe away in the first 3 seconds. honestly good riddance to inflated follower counts tbh.

No Flair Best laptop under ₹65k for coding/dev during BBD?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello, I'm Looking for a laptop during Flipkart BBD or Amazon GIF. Budget ₹65k max, can stretch slightly for a really worthwhile upgrade.

Use:

• Web/app development + AI-assisted coding

•Heavy browsing/multitasking

•Firebase/GitHub/VS Code

•Occasional light editing

•No gaming, maybe Minecraft sometimes

Atleast needs

• 16GB RAM

• 512GB+ SSD

• Good CPU + thermals

• Good battery

• Decent display

• Good build/keyboard

• Preferably lightweight

• Windows

• Dedicated GPU not necessary(most probably for my use case, I'm not a pro🥀)

I've been looking at ASUS Vivobook, Samsung Galaxy Book4, Moto Book 60/60 Pro, Ryzen/Intel options, etc., but I'm getting lost in all the variants and CPU suffixes. 😭

If you were spending ₹65k on BBD/GIF, what exact laptop/model would you buy?

Please suggest specific models/variants, not just laptop series.

GENUINE HELP WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

DMs are also open, if u are a pro and can guide , please reach out. Thank you

Want to buy a budget Home Theatre that’s upgradable - Mumbai

• Upvotes

So - I’ve currently got a Sony HT IV300 - old system, 5.1 - all separate channels, individual speakers - wired in my TV room. Recently got a 65inch Samsung S95H OLED - and was looking to upgrade my sound system - but was surprised to find no Home Theatre systems with separate center, left and right channels. They’re all crammed into a soundbar - so I’m afraid the separation won’t be nearly as good as my current setup.

For context - the Living room isn’t too large, about 12 feet - left to right, and about 15 ft front to back - but I’m wondering if a soundbar with Separate rear speakers are good enough?

Or should I take the plunge and go for a full Home Theatre setup - Denon AMP etc - considering I’ve never done this before, and considering I wanted to stick to the 50-60K budget at most. 🫣

Another question I had - can I use the existing AMP I got with the Sony’s to attach better speakers - and then upgrade the main box later? Or is it better to go for a standalone Premium Soundbar with Rear Speakers setup?

Any help would be appreciated - since I’m absolutely new to this.

No Flair Update on my previous post(phone under 20k)

So i increased my budget to 25k from 20k because there are not a single phone which can fit in my criteria. my criteria- Amoled FHD+, Snapdragon processor , little bit long OS update. Saw many video but i didnt found any phone so i inc my budget. I decide to buy Samsung m47 or samsung a36 because they are the only phone which have all things i want. So yes it is my final choice and also waant to tell you that this year i want 2 phone. 1 for me and 1 for my father. so this samsung phone is for my father, not because low performance(even a36 has 6 gen 3 which is best processor in this prize range)but because i dont have budget of more than 20k strictly. And for me, I am still in a search....... Pls suggest if you have a suggestion. My criteria( good performance and maybe amoled) but only from renowned brands unlike mivi, bolt, lava etc.

What phone should I buy? 😭 I’m putting my own money into it this time

I’m looking for a phone in the ₹45–55k range and I’m honestly being VERY careful this time because I’m spending my own hard-earned money on it 😭 So I really don’t want to regret my purchase.

My priorities, in order:

  1. 📸 Camera – MOST IMPORTANT

I want to shoot vlogs + photos + videos, so I need a genuinely good camera and video quality, especially stabilization and front camera quality.

  2. 💾 Storage – 512GB preferred

I take a LOT of photos and videos, and I’m planning to vlog, so 256GB feels a bit risky for me. I’d really prefer 512GB.

  3. 🔋 Battery – VERY IMPORTANT

I’m a heavy user, around 8–9 hours of screen time a day. I need something that can comfortably get me through the day without having to charge multiple times.

  4. ⚡ Fast charging

Since I use my phone heavily, I’d like reasonably fast charging so even a short top-up is useful.

I’m open to any brands. I’m mainly looking for the best overall phone for my use, not just the best specs on paper.

What would you personally buy with ₹45–55k if camera + storage + battery + charging were your priorities? And what phones should I absolutely avoid?

Please give me your brutally honest recommendations 🙏😭

Security Father tricked into installing a malicious APK for a ₹5 medical appointment payment, what should we do?

Thumbnail
gallery
75 Upvotes

My father booked an appointment at CMRI today over the phone. Some time later, he received a call from a number claiming to be related to the appointment and was asked to install an APK called Appointment_booking.apk and pay ₹5 through it.

He installed it and attempted the ₹5 payment, but it failed. They asked him to try again, which made him suspicious, so he uninstalled the app.

I checked the APK on VirusTotal and multiple major antivirus vendors flagged it as a banking trojan/spyware/trojan dropper.

As a precaution, I have:

Blocked the card he used

Told him not to use banking/UPI apps on that phone

Factory-reset the phone

What else should we do? Should we change his UPI PIN/banking passwords, contact the bank, or report it to 1930 even though the payment failed?

Also, is his phone/account safe after a factory reset, or could his credentials already be compromised?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Confused between S25, Moto Signature & Xiaomi 17.

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

X17 has heating issues, 25 has low battery and Moto has a poor history 🥲

My only gripe with the S25 is the battery and slow charging so if anyone has an s25 me know what the experience is like.

let

The upcoming BBD or Great Indian Festival puts all of these phones in a 50-60k bracket.

The only reason I'm even considering Samsung is for the galaxy watch I already wear. I think Xiaomi 17 is a no brainer when it comes to raw specs but Moto and Samsung also give longer OS support.

EDIT: 5G network is very wonky in my location (keeps switching between 4G and 5G) so I think I'll lose juice to network hunting :(

They dropped teasers for it on their Instagram and even made a game about their launch reveal where you have to click together and beat a score to reveal the launch date and they are almost 70% there, lol.

What do you think the price is gonna be, been saving for this all year already?
