New wiki on how to avoid accidentally encouraging suicide, and how to spot covert incitement

1.8k Upvotes

We've been seeing a worrying increase in pro-suicide content showing up here and, and also going unreported. This undermines our purpose here, so we wanted to highlight and clarify our guidelines about both direct and indirect incitement of suicide.

We've created a wiki that covers these issues. We hope this will be helpful to anyone who's wondering whether something's okay here and which responses to report. It explains in detail why any validation of suicidal intent, even an "innocent" message like "if you're 100% committed, I'll just wish you peace" is likely to increase people's pain, and why it's important to report even subtle pro-suicide comments. The full text of the wiki's current version is below, and it is maintained at /r/SuicideWatch/wiki/incitement.

We deeply appreciate everyone who gives responsive, empathetic, non-judgemental support to our OPs, and we particularly thank everyone who's already been reporting incitement in all forms.

Please report any post or comment that encourages suicide (or that breaks any of the other guidelines in the sidebar) to the moderators, either by clicking the "report" button or by sending us a modmail with a link. We deal with all guideline violations that are reported to us as soon as we can, but we can't read everything so community reports are essential. If you get a PM that breaks the guidelines, please report it both to the reddit sitewide admins and to us in modmail.

Thanks to all the great citizens of the community who help flag problem content and behaviour for us.

Summary

It's important to respect and understand people's experiences and emotions. It's never necessary, helpful, or kind to support suicidal intent. There are some common misconceptions (discussed below) about suicidal people and how to help them that can cause well-meaning people to inadvertently incite suicide. There are also people online who incite suicide on purpose, often while pretending to be sympathetic and helpful.

Validate Feelings and Experiences, Not Self-Destructive Intentions

We're here to offer support, not judgement. That means accepting, with the best understanding we can offer, whatever emotions people express. Suicidal people are suffering, and we're here to try to ease that by providing support and caring. The most reliable way we know to de-escalate someone at risk is to give them the experience of feeling understood. That means not judging whether they should be feeling the way they are, or telling them what to do or not do.

But there's an important line to draw here. There's a crucial difference between empathizing with feelings and responding non-judgmentally to suicidal thoughts, and in any way endorsing, encouraging, or validating suicidal intentions or hopeless beliefs. It's both possible and important to convey understanding and compassion for someone's suicidal thoughts without putting your finger on the scale of their decision.

Anything that condones suicide, even passively, encourages suicide. It isn't supportive and does not help. It also violates reddit's sitewide rules as well as our guidelines. Explicitly inciting suicide online is a criminal offense in most jurisdictions.

Do not treat any OP's post as meaning that will definitely die by suicide and can't change their minds or be helped. Anyone who's able to read the comments here still has a chance to choose whether or not to try to keep living, even if they've also been experiencing intense thoughts of suicide, made a suicide plan, or started carrying it out.

In the most useful empirical model we have, the desire to die by suicide primarily comes from two interpersonal factors; alienation and a sense of being a burden or having nothing to offer. These factors usually lead to a profound feeling of being unwelcome in the world.

So, any acceptance or reinforcement of suicidal intent, even something "innocent" like "I hope you find peace", is actually a form of covert shunning that validates a person's sense that they're unwelcome in the world. It will usually add to their pain even if kindly meant and gently worded.

How to Avoid Validating Suicidal Intent

Keep the following in mind when offering support to anyone at risk for suicide.

  • People who say they don't want help usually can feel better if they get support that doesn't invalidate their emotions. Unfortunately, many popular "good" responses are actually counterproductive. In particular, many friends and family tend to rely exclusively on trying to convince the suicidal person that "it's not so bad", and this is usually experienced as "I don't understand what you're going through and I'm not going to try". People who've had "help" that made them feel worse don't want any more of the same. It doesn't mean that someone who actually knows how to be supportive can't give them any comfort.

  • Most people who are suicidal want to end their pain, not their lives. It's almost never true that death is the only way to end these people's suffering. Of course there are exceptional situations, and we certainly acknowledge that, for some people, the right help can be difficult to find. But preventing someone's suicide doesn't mean prolonging their suffering if we do it by giving them real comfort and understanding.

  • An unfixable problem doesn't mean that a good life will never be possible. We don't have to fix or change anything to help someone feel better. It's important to keep in mind that the correlation between our outer circumstances and our inner experience is weaker and less direct than commonly assumed. For every kind of difficult life situation, you will find some people who lapse into suicidal despair, and others who cope amazingly well, and a whole spectrum in between. A key difference is how much inner resilience the person has at the time. This can depend on many personal and situational factors. But when there's not enough, interpersonal support can both compensate for its absence and help rebuild it. We go into more depth on the "it gets better" issue in this PSA Post which is always linked from our sidebar (community info on mobile) guidelines.

  • There are always more choices than brutally forcing someone to stay alive or passively letting them end their lives.

To avoid accidentally breaking the anti-incitement rule, don't say or try to imply that acting on suicidal thoughts is a good idea, or that someone can't turn back or is already dead. Do whatever you can to help them feel cared for and welcome, at least in this little corner of the world. Our talking tips offer more detailed guidance.

Look Out for Deliberate Incitement. It May Come in Disguise.

Often comments that subtly encourage suicidal intent actually come from suicide fetishists and voyeurs (unfortunately this is a real and disturbing phenomenon). People like this are out there and the anonymous nature of reddit makes us particularly attractive to them.

They will typically try to scratch their psychological "itch" by saying things that push people closer to the edge. They often do this by exploiting the myths that we debunked in the bullet points above. Specifically you might see people doing the following:

  • Encouraging the false belief that the only way suicidal people can end their pain is by dying. There are always more and better choices than "brutally forcing someone to stay alive" or helping (actively or passively) them to end their lives.

  • Creating an artificial and toxic sense of "solidarity" by linking their encouragement of suicide to empathy. They will represent themselves as the only one who really understand the suicidal person, while either directly or indirectly encouraging their self-loathing emotions and self-destructive impulses. Since most people in suicidal crisis are in desperate need to empathy and understanding, this is a particularly dangerous form of manipulation.

Many suicide inciters are adept at putting a benevolent spin on their activities while actually luring people away from sources of real help. A couple of key points to keep in mind:

  • Skilled suicide intervention -- peer or professional -- is based on empathic responsiveness to the person's feelings that reduces their suffering in the moment. Contrary to pop-culture myths, it does not involve persuasion ("Don't do it!"), cheerleading ("You've got this!") or meaningless false promises ("Trust me, it gets better!"), or invalidation ("Let me show you how things aren't as bad as you think!"). Anyone who leads others to expect these kinds of toxic responses, or any other response that prolongs their pain, from expert help may be covertly pro-suicide. (Of course, people sometimes do have bad experience when seeking mental-health treatment, and it's fine to vent about those, but processing our own disappointment and frustration is entirely different from trying to destroy someone else's hope of getting help.)

  • Choices made by competent responders are always informed by the understanding that breaching someone's trust is traumatic and must be avoided if possible. Any kind of involuntary intervention is an extremely unlikely outcome when someone consults a clinician or calls a hotline. (Confidentiality is addressed in more detail in our Hotlines FAQ wiki). The goal is always to provide all help with the client's full knowledge and informed consent. We know that no individual or system is perfect. Mistakes that lead to bad experiences do sometimes happen to vulnerable people, and we have enormous sympathy for them. But anyone who suggests that this is the norm might be trying to scare people away from the help they need.

Please let us know discreetly if you see anyone exhibiting these or similar behaviours. We don't recommend trying to engage with them directly.

Please remember that NO ACTIVISM of any kind is ever allowed here. No matter what day it is.

Activism, i.e. advocating or fundraising for social change or raising awareness of social issues (and suicide is, inescapably, a social issue) is absolutely against the rules here at all times.

Please understand that we're all for smart, strategic mental-health and suicide-prevention activism. It's essential to fight against stigma, misinformation, and discrimination, and to fight for research, treatment, accommodation, acceptance, and understanding. Most of us, one way or another, are mental-health activists IRL.

But activism just doesn't work in a dedicated support space that serves a vulnerable population. We used to allow it but the evidence that it was undermining our primary purpose became overwhelming. We do regret the need for this rule, but the need is inescapable.

Our population is all too well aware of the issues and causes that need support and largely not in a position to take action, so besides the fact that activism is often salt in our community's wounds, it's a waste of the activists' time.

tl;dr Any fundraising, awareness raising, petitions, calls for participation, or any post that's about any cause or issue (rather than a request for personal support) is not allowed here. Please report everything of the nature that you see.

Learnt my sister committed suicide today, and I only feel glad I am not the only one fucked up by my parents.

Have no contact with my family for over 10 years. There is a cousin that I don’t dislike and she sent me message on social media. She checked in a hotel 3 days ago, and police called my parents.

I don’t know her as adult. But not even when we were little.
I don’t feel anything actually or maybe even glad to hear the news. As my childhood sucks since she was born, and she never been closed to me or at least treat me as anything but a roommate.
My childhood memory was how my parents always liked to humiliate me in front of her and others when I did something wrong. And allowed her to break some stupid house rules, when I been punishing for it.(both physical and emotionally)

I always thought it is only me. For my whole life i wish I never been born… and thought I was bad as a child…
Now the news just convinced me it was my shitty parents. If they had 2 kids, one of them went no contact as soon as they came of age, and the other one killed themselves; that is pretty fuck up.

Thank you for reading this.
And no. I don’t need mental support in anyway. Cheers!

failed attempt today NSFW

I feel like such a pussy and I wanna vent to somebody but don’t want to tell anyone I know. I attempted suicide tonight by using a tie. There’s nothing in my room that I can hang from (it’s a college dorm) so I had to use my bed frame. The first time I tried to tie the knot it created a too loose tension. The second time it worked and I felt the oxygen leaving my body but I panicked (against my own judgement) and untied it. I looked in the mirror after and saw my dilated ass eyes and the red marks on my neck and felt extremely embarrassed for failing. The third time I tried a noose and I couldn’t tie it tight enough (AGAIN) so I gave up for a second and looked at my phone and saw that my mom was texting me.

I feel so embarrassed for writing out the note, doing the subtle goodbyes and stuff and ending up chickening out last second and then not being able to recreate it again. It was an extremely impulsive decision but now I’m just giving up and going to sleep. Now I have a long red mark on my neck and it’s gonna be noticeable at classes tomorrow.

Pls don’t worry about me rn cuz the fact I failed another attempt was a wake up call that I can’t kill myself for some reason. Thanks for listening to my vent lol.

Im worried my suicide attempt is going to fail NSFW

I have plans on taking 10,000mg of Tylenol and ive been actively spurred on by others to do so

Ive had many failed attempts in the past, so im worried this one will follow in the same path. Ive tried to overdose in the past; a much weaker dose, ive tried slitting, hanging, jumping, it just... never works for me. Im always unfortunately still alive. Its like some force is keeping me here and i absolutely despise it

I really dont know what to do with my life anymore, im at an all time low honestly. Ive been offered opioids to feel better, I cant get professional help at the moment unfortunately and either way they wont help me the way I need. Everyday I wake up to some bullshit. I dont want to wake up anymore

If anyone has any ideas what i should do please tell me im sorry for venting on here I really just dont have any place better to do so

Killing myself tomorrow

I’m going to a nice secluded spot in the UK countryside at night, gonna swallow 51 tablets of 7.5mg olanzapine and wash it down with some vodka. Hopefully that should do the job. I tried to do the same thing earlier this year but I was stupid enough to post a suicide letter on my Insta story. Which lead to my mum calling the ambulance on my address. That’s why I survived.

This time I won’t write a suicide note, and I won’t tell anyone in my family anything. As far as they’re concerned everything is good in my life. So they won’t suspect anything. I’m done with this shit life. My life has been a fuck up since I was a baby and it always will be.

Please don’t talk me out of because I don’t want help. Nothing anyone can say will stop me. it I’m just expressing myself.

I've been getting worse for a few weeks now and despite all the work you all have put in, I'm just not normal. I can't just be someone who does the kinds of things you do. I promise I tried, I'm just out of options.

I'm tired and lonely and if I'm really honest, not worth keeping alive. I'm bored, you're all bored of me, so it's time.

It's for the best. I was never going to be worth it.

Is there any point to life if you're autistic??

I'm autistic and I've spent the last ten years of my life almost completely isolated from people other than my immediate family. I want human connection more than anything. When I was younger I always imagined I'd get my shit together eventually and I'd have friends and a boyfriend and social skills but it isn't even possible for me. I thought maybe I could get better and have a normal life but after I got diagnosed I realized I would be stuck like this forever. Even if they find a cure it'll definitely be prenatal so it won't even matter. This is my one shot at life and I'm stuck as a useless failure of a woman because I was born fucked up and there's nothing I can do about it.

I used to have a pretty normal life other than the social aspect but I literally do not give a shit anymore. I get up every day, finish my assignments for the day, and then knock myself out with sleeping pills. I don't even know why I'm still in school. I can get a degree but nobody will hire me because of how socially inept I am.

I've had extremely elevated cholesterol levels since I was eight that have hardly gone down even after doing everything I can to mitigate it. Nothing genetic either. I am in constant pain every day. I'm going to die early anyway because of how stressful it is being isolated, why should I bother waiting it out?? I'm tired of taking away resources from people who actually have a chance.

My best friend keeps trying to kill herself, I don't know if I can do it anymore

Hello, I really appreciate anyone who is even reading this. I'm so exhausted and hurt and scared. I usually vent on my private Twitters, but she has access to all of that. Shes NEVER been someone I have kept anything from, I honestly don't care what she sees me say, but I don't want her to worry about me when she's struggling.

I'm 19M, she's 17F, we've been best friends since middle school. We went to the same school and were instantly best friends. I've grown into the person I am with her, I would do anything for her. I've even considered giving up men and just platonically spending my life growing old with her. Before anyone thinks anything different I'm gay, she's lesbian, we aren't interested in each other.

We both have gone through extreme mental health issues. I lived with an abusive mother and her husband until I was 18 and could move out with my dad. So I have also tried to kill myself twice, and have been inpatient a different time. I know what it's like, I am completely empathetic to her struggles. She lives with her single mother and 4 other siblings. I don't know about any abuse as I have severe PTSD and it can cause me to be a danger to myself when triggered. So she hasn't told me, but honestly I wouldn't be surprised, there's 100% neglect happening though. She doesn't get the mental care and watch I know she needs. All this to say we both have been through it, our lives have not been fun or happy.

This year alone my best friend has tried to kill herself four times now. FOUR. The first time I was so scared, as I knew what it was like. I texted a mutual friend and together we figured out what happened. I had her location on and immediately knew something was wrong when I saw her at the ER for hours. The second and third time I honestly can't remember, I have it blocked out. But she was at residency for a few months that time after. This time, today, I hadn't heard from her for days. I've been messaging her a ton and was scared why her location had been at home, her battery at 100% for that long. Then she texted me today, apologizing because she was inpatient AGAIN.

I'm not mad, I'm not upset at her. Hell, I've been through this. I don't even think she's selfish for trying to leave. I'm terrified of our future. I can't imagine a world without her, and I'm starting to realize I might have to. It's always been our plan to get matching tattoos when she's 18, live together for a while, and she is going to be my best woman/groomswoman. Shes always been a part of my future since I met her. But I'm sitting here, breaking down because I'm starting to realize I don't know if I'll see that happen. I understand why she wants to die, I desperately wanted the same thing for 18 years. But I don't want that to happen. I want my best friend in my life forever. I feel sick to my stomach knowing this is going to continue. I can't sleep or feel safe knowing she's so determined to die. I want her to be happy more than anything, it's why I never said anything the first three times. I put her needs and her health in front of mine. But I'm starting to break, I can't imagine my worst fear, a life without her, is very likely.

I appreciate anyone who even reads this, I appreciate you so so much. It's hard and life sucks, but it does get better. I regret trying to kill myself every day since I left my mother's. If you have any advice I would love it to no end. Thank you so much ❤️.

I wish I was dead more than anything.

Due to circumstances outside of my control, I will always find myself wishing I was dead instead of being alive. So much of life is dictated by a piece of paper and for what? We live our entire lives just to work, and I want to put my foot down and stand up against whatever the fuck this is.

Why you are trying to keep me alive …

I

Don’t understand…

Why would a person choose to live despite having such a life?
Why should they drag themselves into forty years of misery?
Why not end it while there is still time?
Why this effort people make to keep each other alive? Why don't they just let a person who is already dead end everything? That person is already dead; why don't you leave them alone so they can attain eternal peace?

Why you are trying to keep me alive why…

Okie dokie, so first, hope y'all are having a good day ! If you're on here, probably not so, hope your future days go well !

Now, onto the juicy stuff. I've been wanting to make a post for a bit now. It's been lingering on my mind to try and seek some help from anyone. But, being a little bitch, I haven't !

And now, guess what ? I've fallen off an even deeper end of a never ending cliff !

I've been doing self harm for a bit, trying to ground myself and all that, it's been slowly escalating from just slight scratches to scratching until blood to choking myself and now cutting myself.

And, when I fall off the deep end I start treating everything as a joke, which is nice because I feel happy, more confident and I smile !

As one does, I got up to take a drink, looked at myself in the mirror and realised my eyes were full of tears which only deepened my breakdown. Yaddi yadda, choking, burning etc.

And I finally did it ! I cut myself !

I was expecting pain, a lot of it. I only did surface level cuts before and they hurt quite a bit. Though, I've always been scared of going harder, but, the blood must flow !

I was lulled into a false security because the knife's blade seemed a bit dull, I tried cutting my belly with a light stroke and nothing. I got a bit angry that I couldn't do more and slashed my wrist.

First, I was horrified by the pink flesh. Then.... annoyance. It didn't hurt. Why didn't it hurt ? I asked myself.

It's also when I noticed that the light stroke I did on my belly had gotten red and started hurting.

I laughed. I laughed at how pathetic this was.

I put away the knife, cleaned the wound and made a half assed band aid with a tissue and tape and continued laughing my ass off because it didn't hurt.

I laughed at how much easier it was to cut myself than to admit I have problems and reasons to have problems.

And now, I'm writing this. I don't even care about seeking help, or hiding it anymore. My friends are all fake. My own hapiness is fake. I don't know who I am. But I know that jumping out of a window is not gonna hurt as bad as I thought it would.

Anyways, don't even know why I'm writing this but the adrenaline is going down and I hope I don't have another panic attack and delete this. Though I don't think I care enough lol.

I hope y'all have good days coming !

I'm so done with this fucking timeline.

• Upvotes

There's that joke "Nothing ever happens". But stuff does happen, it gets worse. Every fucking day the world just gets worse and worse.

There are so few things keeping me going at this point and most of them are actively being broken down and stripped away.

They tell you karma exists. That good deeds come back and bad deeds always bite you in the end. Yet it's always the corrupt, sick, evil people that end up on the top. Whether they're rich, politically powerful, famous, or all of the above, and the face absolutely no consequences.

I'm never going to own a house, or a car probably. I've been looking for a job for over a year now and still can't even get an interview 95% of the time. Shit just keeps getting more expensive. I'm an adult but still live at home with parents and both of them are too medically disabled to work so we rely on benefits that the government seems determined to reduce and remove for any slightest reason.

AI keeps growing at such an exponential rate that soon nothing online will ever be safe, or trustable, and so many entry level jobs are just gonna vanish while the youngest generations get their brains fried even more.

Every news article I ever see, even the ones from honest sources (the few that are left) have like, one happy article in between constant reports of natural disasters, constant 'Record Breaking' weather events, wars, genocide, economic collapse and more.

The planet is fucked and keeps getting worse to an irreparable degree and the people that caused it all will be dead before they see any consequences for it.

And honestly, I used to believe the whole 'Once the current generation in power is dead we can finally make some positive change' but it seems that's not even an option, as they'll just keep propping up a corpse as a puppet, and there are even people of my generation and younger that are just as evil or even worse.

In history during times like this you'd see rebellion, revolution or at least mass rioting. But instead all I see is mass apathy and misery and a general 'There will be a reckoning' that never leads to anything.

Plus I'm seeing more and more military recruitment ads and with the way shits going it's looking like WW3 soon.

Not to mention I'm doing this all in a broken useless body. My brain doesn't fucking work right and sabotages my every action. My body constantly fucks with me and if I'm anything like my parents its only gonna get worse.

Honestly one of the major reasons I haven't taken the express ticket to the afterlife yet is because I don't have an easy way to do it, and there's a few people I have left that I don't want to hurt with my passing.

If WW3 does start I might just enlist for long enough until I can get my own gun so I can put a bullet in myself.

I was an optimist god damn it. I wanted to believe the best in everybody. I kept telling myself shit will get better but it doesn't. It never does.

I'm so sick of this timeline, surely whatever comes next has to be better than this? Even if it's just void at least I won't know about it.

Lost everything I love

• Upvotes

Lost my cat to a structure fire caused by others

Lost the love of my life to alcoholism

Lost my favorite car to someone causing a crash

Lost my favorite festure (my hair) to my sister being selfish and making me change it for her wedding and it getting melted off. I literally hate her now

Lost my favorite job to being laid off

Lost one of my best friends due to them planning my dream vacation and rubbing it in my face

Lost another from schizophrenia

Lost my health, my beautiful, everything.

Idk how much longer I can carry on. I have supplies lined up and honestly I don't see hope anymore. I dont think I'll ever have a good job like friends, a real partner who cares, my hair/beauty back, friends who don't pity or keep me around to feel better about themselves, a future.

I'm in school now and its making it worse. The financial stress, the challenging living conditions, the stress of performance...

Idk anymore. It never gets better. It hasn't for so many years. I'm just expected to carry on forever for what?

I hate my life. Nobody sees me as a girl in any capacity. I'm just a disgusting cross-dresser to them. If I kill myself then maybe the atoms in my brain will form another human and I can finally be someone I want to be. The chances of that is higher than me ever being seen as a girl.

I want to cut myself.

• Upvotes

I’m in a deeply bad spot. Nobody is hearing anything I say, my husband and I are in a days long fight. I read some pretty sad things he’s said about me to his coworkers in regard to my profession as a hairdresser in a mocking way, comparing me to a two year old in another message. I am 27 weeks pregnant and off of my bipolar medication that stabilizes me due to it being harmful for the baby. I am trying so hard but I am so lost and I’m losing this mental health battle. I want to take on of the razors off of my leg shaving razor and cut myself. I cut myself last night with a knife and it was such a sweet release sensation I’m craving it again. What is happening to me? I need help. I’ve never been this way before.

In March I (F18) spontaneously tried to kill myself twice, back-to-back days. I probably should've gone to the hospital because I had really severe throat swelling, chest pain, problems breathing & swallowing etc but I just waited it out.

Anyways, since then my depression has naturally gotten a lot better, but I still regularly have pretty active suicidal thoughts. I feel like before, i mean, I was suicidal, but when I felt better my thoughts were far away & dreamy. Like just fleeting noise. Now, no matter how depressed I am, when it starts, it's just like it is when I'm at my most depressed. The image of me hurting myself plays over and over again. It's like I've satisfied the craving once, and now my brain has developed a dependence. It's actually like Ive hooked myself on an opioid or smthn. I think about how easy it would be just to do it a little bit, jus set it up, until the last second and then back out. A lot of detailed violent imagery. Its all so much more real than it was before, if yk what i mean.  HOW DO I FIX THIS??? I want to get better. Im already on 50 mg of zoloft.

I can't tell if I have POCD, have always been a monster, or both. NSFW

I'm at the point where I don't know if I have POCD or not. This stems from Real Events from ages 12-16 where I did some bad stuff and was attracted to equally bad stuff.

I had forgotten about a good amount of this for a while, before suddenly the worst of the events reappeared in my mind a couple years back. It was really bad, irredeemably bad. Easily the worst thing I had done in my life.

This had since caused me to question everything about myself, and my past. Memories I forgot about from when I was younger now are memories where I had done something wrong, seriously wrong, and I can't tell if it's the truth, or something my mind has weaponized and taken out of context.

And even in my adulthood, where for a while I had believed myself to be a better version of myself, I've still found a way to convince myself I've knowingly texted young people online in an dirty way, or had purposely touched a younger family member of mine. (These two things became something I was convinced of after an event occurred that I later began to believe I did something bad, despite not originally having thought so.) Not to mention realizing that a lot of animated dirty content I've been consuming has been immoral.

And to top off the mess of memories that I can't sift through on my own, I'm constantly having urges and feelings towards younger people the instant I see them. I react viscerally, and if the feeling is intense enough I'll actually thrash around and dig into my skin to try and make it go away. (Psychopathic? Probably.)

I don't know anymore. I KNOW what I want, and it's not this. But did younger me feel the same? More important and relevant question, did slightly younger adult me feel the same? I'm 21 now, with these questionable moments happening at 18 to very early 20s. Would it even matter that I'm scared and have empathy if I had done these things as an adult?

I often consider suicide just because I don't really know what else to do. If I really am as bad as I believe I might be, the world wouldn't want me anyway, and would cheer on my death. And if it is just nonsense in my mind, I don't feel I'm worth the effort to fix. Both of these things feel equally possible, making me go back and forth, back and forth...
