Release I built an app that records who you are while you’re alive, so your family can still ask questions after you’re gone.

Disclosure up front: I’m the developer.

Most software in the “after you die” category is storage. Password vaults, document lockers, scheduled emails. All of it is static. Someone opens a folder, reads what you left behind, and that’s the end of it. The questions your family has five years later have nowhere to go.

EchoVault works differently. While you’re alive you do guided check-in sessions where an AI biographer asks about your life and pulls out real material: memories, opinions, the way you actually talk about things. That builds your Echo. Later, the custodians you named can have a conversation with the Echo, and it answers from what you actually said rather than inventing something plausible.

The text tier is free. Unlimited check-ins, no card required, so you can build the whole archive without paying anything. Voice is $12 a month if you want the Echo to sound like you. Video is a one-time $99.99 that covers avatar training and permanent storage, and includes three months of live video, after which live video is $18 a month. The avatar stays yours permanently, but seeing it in conversation needs an active video subscription.

There’s also a Legacy Credits system. Every month you spend on a paid tier banks a free month of custodian access for after you’re gone, and it accumulates, so starting earlier means your family gets longer with it. Separately, if a full year passes with no activity on the account, your Echo transfers to your named custodians automatically. Nobody has to remember to trigger anything.

On accuracy, responses are retrieved from what you actually recorded, so the Echo won’t fabricate a memory you never described. When it doesn’t have something, it says so.

The reason to start sooner is simple. Photos, documents, video, someone can gather all of that after you’re gone. How you think, why you made the calls you made, what you’d want to say to your kid when they turn thirty, that only exists while you’re around to say it. Every month you put it off is material nobody can reconstruct later.

Prior art, since someone will ask: we shipped text, voice, and real-time video together in the web app in June 2025, five months ahead of the closest comparable product. StoryFile has done interactive video since 2021, though those are pre-recorded answers rather than generated conversation.

Happy to get into the technical side in the comments.

Release yovoice: an open-source desktop app for local voiceovers on Mac and Windows

I've been working on videos lately and wanted a straightforward way to handle voiceovers locally. While there's no shortage of open-source TTS models, getting environments configured and switching between different setups was taking too much time.

I put together yovoice, an open-source desktop app for macOS (Apple Silicon) and Windows. It bundles the audio.cpp inference engine so there's no runtime setup—you just download and switch models directly in the app. It lets you clone voices with a reference clip, tweak emotional tone where supported, and keep track of your voices and generated takes in a local history.

The app is Apache-2.0 (models carry their own licenses).

Repo: https://github.com/leemysw/yovoice

I'd love to hear how you currently manage voiceovers, and what would make this fit better into your editing pipeline.

Release I built MicMyDay: A fully local and private voice-to-text and AI rewriting app for macOS

MicMyDay is a zero-setup local and privacy focused speech-to-text app with AI that enhances your recordings.

I work with a lot of AI agents throughout the day. I constantly switch between ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, terminal agents like OpenCode and Pi, and a bunch of different windows.

Typing became a bottleneck, so I built MicMyDay. One shortcut for voice input that works system-wide, including terminals.

Problem

I wanted the whole workflow to run fully locally on the Mac, without sending voice recordings or prompts to external servers.

MicMyDay handles both transcription and AI cleanup locally. A lot of local setups still require something like Ollama or LM Studio, extra configuration, or sometimes a Pro subscription for the local AI features.

MicMyDay includes everything it needs. Install it, choose a model, and use it. No external server, no API key, zero setup.

It supports local transcription models like Whisper and Parakeet. The cleanup can remove filler words, repetitions, false starts and turn spoken input into cleaner text before inserting it into the current app.

Comparison

Wispr Flow is a much more established product in this space.

MicMyDay is focused on a fully local, all-in-one setup. Transcription and AI cleanup run on the Mac, with the models downloaded and managed directly in the app.

Pricing

MicMyDay is open source under GPLv3 and free to build yourself.

The official signed and notarized build is $15 one-time, including automatic updates. No subscription.

GitHub: https://github.com/micmyday/micmyday
Website: https://micmyday.com/

Future plans

I want to keep adding and properly supporting new local transcription and cleanup models while keeping the same zero-setup experience.

Cloud and OpenAI-compatible providers can remain an option, but fully local is what I want to keep focusing on.

I'd really appreciate feedback: what works, what doesn't, what feels awkward, and which models or features you'd like to see next.

Release Built and open-sourced a native macOS calendar with menu bar events

Post image
9 Upvotes

For the past 9 years as a full-stack engineer, my core focus has been web development, mostly backend systems and frontend infrastructure. I never really explored building native apps.

Recently, I wanted a calendar app that felt truly native to macOS, with an upcoming-events menu bar experience similar to Notion Calendar (formerly Cron).

I liked the simplicity of Itsycal and the menu bar experience of Notion Calendar. I never really used the full feature set, so I decided to build something much lighter that focuses on what I actually need.

So, here’s what I built. A simple, native-feeling macOS calendar with your upcoming events right in the menu bar.

It’s also privacy-focused. Your calendar data stays on your Mac and doesn’t leave your computer.

It’s open source too, so feel free to browse through the code and let me know what you think: https://github.com/vipiny35/calendo/

Would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or things you’d like to see added.

And yes, this was built with a lot of help from Codex (Astra), and Cursor (Opus 5).

Release A cross OS, free launcher

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've seen a lot of people complain that Spotlight on macOS doesn't return good results, I feel it too.
I think that's because their sorting, ranking, and matching algorithm works differently from what we'd expect — and it also pulls in online results.
Raycast - a paid tool, not everyone needs that many features for a launcher.
I created Look with these reasons.
For the daily use cases, I think Look is pretty solid.
It's a cross-OS app launcher, local and keyboard-first — responds almost instantly.
Here is the repo, hope I can get more feedback to make it better. 🙏

Release I made a macOS app to show the dock on both screens

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Hey everybody!

ExtraDock lets you create unlimited docks and place them anywhere you need them. macOS only gives you one dock, but for multiple monitors it is limiting.

ExtraDock is completely customizable. You can use it as a dock replacement by disabling the macOS dock, or as an addition to it. You can make Extra Docks looks however you like - colors, app icons, effects, you can even make items float on invisible background.

ExtraDock 5

ExtraDock has two versions - the current one supports macOS 12 all the way up to macOS 26 (Tahoe).

ExtraDock 5 is in beta and will be released soon.

All lifetime users will have access to all versions, that includes future versions as well. No additional fees, lifetime means lifetime.

Core Features:

- Widgets such as Live Dock to replicate your macOS dock to other displays & Space-only dynamic dock to show only apps in the space you're currently on.

- Docks can be assigned to different monitors and automatically hide/show when those monitors are connected/disconnected. A simple button make the dock show on all displays.

- Completely customizable in both behavior (collapse, auto hide, hide on fullscreen) and visuals.

- Preview apps on hover.

- Drag & Drop files into folders or the Shelf Widget for easy organization.

- Folder Stacks to group folders under a single icon

Summer Sale

ExtraDock is currently on a 40% off summer sale.

Release I built FaceGate — World's first macOS app locker with on-device Face Unlock (Open Source)

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

A few months ago I realized something strange:

You can lock your entire Mac, but you can't easily lock individual apps.

If you hand your laptop to someone for a few minutes, they can still open Messages, Photos, Notes, Mail, WhatsApp, browsers, password managers, and other personal apps. I wanted a way to protect specific applications without constantly locking my entire Mac.

I looked around for solutions, but most were outdated, paid, abandoned, or didn't feel native to macOS. And the ones that worked , lacked features that I wanted.

So I built FaceGate. (1400+ downloads and 250+ github stars)

FaceGate is a native macOS app that lets you lock individual applications and unlock them using Face Unlock, Touch ID, or a password.

It is the most capable and feature heavy MacOS app-locker out there.

A few things I focused on from day one:

* Everything runs locally on your Mac

* No cloud processing

* No accounts

* No telemetry

* No subscriptions

* Fully open source

Features:

• Face Unlock powered entirely on-device using Apple's Neural Engine.

• Fast authentication with very low memory and CPU usage

• Liveness detection to prevent photo and video spoofing attacks

• Touch ID and password fallback

• Per-app unlock timers

• Automatic re-lock on sleep, wake, or screen lock

• option to re-lock on app switch as well as keep unlocked indefinitely - completely customizable

• Custom schedules for automatic lock/unlock periods

• Tamper protection that prevents FaceGate from being quit, disabled, or uninstalled without authentication

• Runs quietly from the menu bar with minimal system impact.

• Multi-Monitor protection

The entire project is written in Swift and designed specifically for macOS.

This is still actively being maintained and I'd genuinely love feedback from Mac users.

Some questions:

* Is app-level locking something you've wanted on macOS?

* Which apps would you personally lock?

* What security or privacy features would you like to see added?

Website: https://facegate-applocker.vercel.app/

GitHub: https://github.com/dweep-desai/FaceGate-Mac

If you think I did a good job, please feel free to leave a star on my github repo - means a lot to me.

Feedback, feature requests, bug reports, and contributions are all welcome. I'd love to hear what you think.

Release [OS] A fuzzy launcher with new smooth motion

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hi my Look app - a fuzzy finding app launcher (basically so many things no only apps) dropped a new version.
In this version we added a super action control (for people never show their menu bar, task bar, etc), from this control you can switch, toggle on/off basic things, and see some useful information.
From the last version, we got some suggestions from the rust community members, we implemented one of them: process fuzzy finding on your machine. (finding with ps aux requires knowledge about grep, or tools like fzf)
Here is the repo https://github.com/kunkka19xx/look
It's a cross platform tool. Appreciate any feedback 🙇‍♂️

Release Built an open-source terminal to document and rerun commands easily

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

I built a small open-source terminal plugin called Prompty while working on my own workflow.

The idea came from a simple problem, I often run commands during setup or debugging, but later I forget:

  • what commands I ran
  • in what order
  • what actually worked

So I tried a different approach:

  • Write commands on the left
  • Execute them directly
  • See output on the right
  • Keep everything saved for future reference

Even after closing the terminal, the commands and steps stay saved, so I can revisit them later.

More broadly, I’m trying to keep everything related to a project in one place — that’s why I built DevScribe:

  • LLD / HLD documentation
  • Executable APIs
  • Database queries
  • Diagrams (draw.io, Mermaid, Excalidraw, etc.)
  • Code snippets
  • Terminal commands and setup steps

Download: https://devscribe.app/

Note: You need to install the Promptly Plugin in Devscribe editor, If you face any issue DM me

Release Free open-source OBS plugin for PowerPoint/PDF presenter workflows

Hey everyone,

I work around live events and built a small free/open-source OBS plugin for a problem I kept running into with PowerPoint and PDF decks.

PPTBridge separates the clean slide output from the presenter/operator view inside OBS. So you can have one source for program, and another view with notes, next slide, timer, cue list, and OSC/Companion control.

The main stable build right now is macOS Apple Silicon. It is still a focused project, but it has been tested in real live-production workflows and I’d really appreciate feedback from theatre / show-control people.

GitHub:

https://github.com/srdjankotarlic/pptbridge-sk-obs

Disclosure: I used AI coding assistance while building parts of the project, but the code is open source and I test the builds myself.
