It's anywhere from 28-40+ minutes each way. It's soul crushing. I have never had a commute be longer than 20 minutes on a bad day, and especially because I got done doing the same work for like 3 years at home, it's really irritating to have to go into a cubicle to work.
Mine is 47-1hr+ each way 5 days a week. It used to be easier to work from home once a week but then we hired our Team Leader and someone took advantage, so now we're all in the office Monday-Friday every week. Sucks, I'm thinking some other funkiness is going to put me back out on the travel nursing road again soon. I'm looking, there are contracts that look OK...
My work is a combination of people who are WFH because they got hired before/during Covid, and then newer people who aren’t being allowed WFH because they weren’t around during that time lol
Assuming you're in the US, the car culture there seems insane. I'm lucky enough to live in a part of Australia where I can cycle about 20-25 mins from home to the equivalent of downtown for work.
I've had jobs in the past where I've had to drive 30-45mins each way and it's exactly as you describe - soul crushing.
I have about a 15-20 minute commute to work, depending on traffic, which route I take, and if I want to go fast and assume there isn't a state trooper running a speed trap on the interstate. I used to live even closer and could just take my motorcycle and scoot on the small streets and be at work in six or seven minutes.
Apparently when I tell people this, it's wild. A lot of my coworkers are driving 40-60 minutes for their commute ONE WAY to get to the office.
