How many plagues can one accept in a lifetime?

u/Pokemaster131 7h ago

We've had first pandemic yes, but what about second pandemic?

74

u/platyelminthas 7h ago

A pandemic is never early. Nor is it late. It arrives precisely when it means to

Alright Russian ‘plague laboratory’, keep your secrets 🤨

If you're referring to the incident at the Wuhan lab, I was barely involved.

Certainty of death. Small chance of success… What are we waiting for?

Never thought I would die fighting six feet apart from an Elf.

You’re doing great, they won’t even suspect a thing because of these tinfoils doing the job for us. They can literally know that I’m being 100% serious about this exact message and not do a thing about it.

What about secondary infections? Long terms? Compromised immunities?  He knows about them doesn't he?

1

u/EnamoredAlpaca 5h ago

There is a crude joke about LOTR and second breakfast, but I won’t go there.

1

u/New_Lynx4181 5h ago

I don’t think he knows about second pandemic, Pip.

u/Lost_Elderberry_5532 5h ago

Or a plandemic. They can be unlimited.

5

u/peva3 7h ago

Depends on how long the lifetime lasts

5

u/DerekB52 7h ago

Plagues will happen whether people accept them or not unfortunately.

3

u/EhMapleMoose 6h ago

Two massive global pandemics and mass panics in my lifetime is enough. I say we don't do a third one, if that's ok

1

u/rescuemysandwich 4h ago

as many as we need it

1

u/itsaride 1h ago

We'll have a few more before you leave. Pandemics happen fairly regularly, around one every 20 years - that doesn't mean there's 20 years between, Hong Kong Flu and Asian Flu were only ten years apart.

Many political historians like using the four horsemen of the apocalypse as examples of the inevitable outcomes of mismanaged authoritarian regimes and breakdown of bureaucracies for the sake of nationalism.

Famines, plagues, and war are all averted best by funding the relatively unpopular fields of scientific research and diplomacy, whose victories are rarely celebrated or even known by most people, if not entirely subverted with the idea thst "someone would have done it eventually".

Oddly no one ever looks at Napoleon and goes "someone would have conquered continental Europe eventually". And yet, despite being glazed as a great man, the EU managed to unite most of the continent for far longer without any statues or holidays or dramatist biopics or fanfare.

Are we sure he is dead. Like really extra sure he is completely dead and not coming back. Like in the ground 10ft under with concrete and steel and a gunshot wound to the brain stem sure. Cause ah, as a millennial, I just really want to make sure we are not doing this whole thing. We were legit joking with the whole yolo thing.

1

u/turquoise_amethyst 6h ago

Too late, we buried him in the permafrost and it melted. He crawled out… can’t have gotten too far tho!

2

u/Empty-Dragonfruit656 5h ago

I'm really willing to try a 100 mile radius planting of fall garlic within a 200 mile radius ring of salt.

The fact that Risk taught the importance of irkutsk, kamchatka, and yakutsk leads my to believe this to be yet another once in a generation event.

1

u/turquoise_amethyst 5h ago

What are  irkutsk, kamchatka, and yakutsk?

1

u/platyelminthas 5h ago

Areas in eastern siberia

We're just going to see more and more with global warming and shit. Add into that that pretty much anyone can do gene editing at home, and the growing power of A.I, we may be soon seeing home grown bio terrorism.

good news, this isn a plague, this is the plague. The OG grand daddy Black Death.

"The Plague".
