Meta [META] New Rule proposals and check-in

Aloha e kākou,

The mods have been chatting about some posts we've been seeing a lot of recently, and wanted to get community feedback and input on new rules we're proposing to address them.

Proposal: No "is anyone having issues with [company] shipping and deliveries" posts

Yes, we all have shipping issues. Hawaii is a remote location. Things are going to get her slowly sometimes. It's not just you. We don't need yet another post asking about it. Your best bet is to discuss it on a sub related to that company.

The purpose of this is to cut back on the repeated "Hey where's my amazon package?" and "Anyone else's orders from walmart taking forever to arrive?"

Discussions about shipping services (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.) to/from Hawaii would still be permitted.

Proposal: No "is anyone having issues with [ISP] at [LOCATION]" posts

If you are having an issue with an outage with your ISP, you should contact them for assistance. Posting here isn't going to do much to actually solve the outage issue. You need to let your ISP know.

The most these posts do is get people to say "Yeah my service is out too." It does little to actually help resolve the issue. If you have internet problems, you need to contact the ISP.

That said, we do occasionally see posts where someone has had repeated/ongoing issues with no resolution, and a HawTel rep who lurks here has been able to get them some assistance.

We also welcome input (at any time really, not just in these meta posts) on other rules or community standards.

Thanks!

ETA 2026/09/24: Thank you everyone for keeping the discussion calm and providing input. We are reading through everything and discussing among the modteam.

If you have seen her or have any information about her whereabouts, please contact CrimeStoppers at 808-955-8300.

PSA: Over 3 month backlog for business registration

Submitted and paid for an LLC early July. Still not approved. Got this last week on my latest follow-up:

Thank you for contacting the State of Hawaii’s Business Registration Division (BREG).

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. Due to our transition into the new system, we are currently experiencing processing delays.

Our records show that the registration for (LLC name) has been received for filing and is currently pending review.

We have not reached July filings yet. We apologize for the delay in processing your business registration filing.

Please be advised that due to our recent transition to a new system, BREG is currently experiencing delays in processing.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and we thank you for your continued patience and cooperation as we work diligently to navigate this transition.

Centipede Bite

How would you rate the pain out of 10 for a sting from a large centipede? I almost got stung by a 5 inch one while sleeping. I've heard some say it's the worst bite from a bug. Never been bitten though but I dread it

People that moved here..

Some friendly advice, if you’ve moved here from another state I wouldn’t use that as a conversation starter especially to locals. Was out surfing today and overheard a conversation with a haole guy who said he was from New Jersey. We were at a spot with regulars that surf out there everyday and he tried making convo with one of the local uncles I frequently see out there. Haole guy started the convo off friendly going up to the uncle saying how the waves are good today then i hear him talking in a loud boastful way that he moved here from New Jersey a year ago and bought a place. I could tell by the uncles body language that didn’t want to have a convo as he paddled away from him shortly after that. A few moments later same haole guy drops in on the uncle because “he thought he was going right”. I watched the interaction after their wave and the uncle just shook his head annoyed and paddled out the back. Please don’t act like this if you’re coming to Hawaii and please don’t boast about yourself moving here and buying a place especially to locals.

Landlord cannot fix water heater for a while

Aloha all,

A couple days ago the water heater in my apartment building completely broke, leaving all of us without hot water and a running shower. Our landlord/property management stated that they are unable to find a replacement on island and have to order from the mainland and wait for it to get shipped. I am curious about the laws regarding how long we can go without hot water and a shower. Super humbug filling an ice cold bucket every morning LOL

It’s been a while now, why are people still trying to use the old entrance to the swap meet?

Across the rail place is not the entrance to the parking lot. Why are people still trying to turn into the stadium from there?

RN jobs

Hi! I literally just got my RN license yesterday and how does the job market look right now for new grad nurses? I’ve heard typically you need to start as a nurse aide to get into any hospital system, but has anyone had any luck into getting into a new grad RN position for the HPH academies? Please let me know! Mahalo!!!

the value of cross referencing: These two photos support the idea that Lili'uokalani was deceived by members of her cabinet who not only drafted her proposed constitution, but were also conspirators in the overthrow. I want to know the truth about conspirators most people will never learn.

The first photo is from a record held in the Hawai'i Digital archives, which was actually written 60 years after the overthrow. the Author of the book was the son of John Henry Soper, who would become responsible for disarming the Honolulu police and Royal guard.

the second photo however comes from a book written in 1898, "Hawai'i: our new possessions" written by John R. Musick".

I intend to look further into the incident which both reference. there are differences about the situation, but the content of the situation remains similar.

What to do with malfunctioning cd player?

Do you know where I can donate malfunctioning cd player? It plays but skips or pauses and I cleaned the cds and then cleaned the player but still not working and not worth trying to repair. Would Goodwill, Salvation Army, Thrift Shop take it for parts? Or where do I take it to dispose of properly?

Aloha kākou

I bought this a few years ago at the Sunday Markey in Waikīkī. The one near the zoo. I remember the couple that sold them were from the Ha'ikū neighborhood in Kāne'ohe. They had other things like long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts etc. They gave me their card but unfortunately it's lost. I know this a long shot but maybe someone knows who they are. Mahalo nui to anyone who could steer me in the right direction

Re: Dole Cannery 4dx sold out for entire run?

I was trying to book tickets for Street Fighter in 4DX, tickets only went on sale 2 days ago but every single showing is sold out for the entire week-long run. Is this a glitch or the most popular film ever released in Hawaii?

I tried calling Dole Cannery but could not get through.. has this happened to anyone else before? Are there resale tickets on stubhub or something? Any advice greatly appreciated :)

Best way to view NHL games

Been living here for a few years and havent met any hockey fans so I generally watch them by myself whenever I can catch them on TV.

How are y'all watching hockey? Is there an app worth getting to be able to watch more games out here? Any hockey friendly bars?

Would love to go out and watch a game this season tbh
