Just Sharing (no feedback) My handwriting from the start of 2026 to now

so I started practicing my handwriting around the start of this year as I thought that it looked like shit(the handwriting on the left) and it had been like this for a few years now, fast forward to a month or 2 ago I wrote with what I think is my best handwriting(the one on the right) yet now I have slacked off a bit but because of studies n stuff but I am thinking of starting to do this again

also my handwriting( the one on the right) is a bit on the "extreme" side as I do think it is my best writing yet but my normal handwriting has also (obviously) improved a lot

(and yes the writing on the left is my "old normal" writing )

Question (not for transcriptions) Should I Change My Handwriting?

Post image
2 Upvotes

So for context, I went to private school until 6th grade, where I learned to write in cursive. When I transferred to the public school system all my friends couldn’t read my handwriting, so I resorted to some odd-looking and relatively uncomfortable version of print-cursive mix, but it took to long to write. So when I went to 8th grade, I stopped doing that and continued writing in cursive. Now all my friends are, once again, struggling to read my handwriting, so I’m seriously considering changing it. For reference I’m in high school. Also, why do most public school systems that I know no longer teach cursive?? I don’t know any students other than my mom, dad, and brother who use cursive or can read it. It feels like the younger the age group, the fewer people can read cursive.

If I want to start writing in print, where should I start? With those print-out traceable sheets?

Feedback (constructive criticism) I'm embarrassed by my handwriting (27)

Hi all. I'm really looking for some help with my handwriting. Its been a source of embarrassment for me as of late. I own a business, and whenever I handwrite something for a client I feel incredibly self conscious.

I know practice makes perfect, but what are some steps I can take to improve my handwriting even just a bit? I can't commit to courses or long videos that people recommended when I search the subreddit. I just want it to look a bit more put together.

I also included a picture of my cursive, which I never use. I'd love to improve it.

Right now, I have my mom writing out my important documents for me. Its so embarrassing 🤦‍♀️ Thank you for any help.

Feedback (constructive criticism) My cursive from 7 days ago vs today

I started practicing Spencerian 2 days ago. I’ve been writing cursive on my morning pages for 7 days straight and it’s so crazy looking at that first page lmao. I can’t believe I can improve my cursive this fast.

I’d like some feedback on my Spencerian. Understandably, my handwriting looks better when I write slowly but since these are morning pages, I was more focused on keeping up with my thoughts. But I would like to pick up my speed eventually while still keeping my handwriting neat. What I find challenging are the capital letters. And I somehow keep forgetting to do the first stroke (ノ) when a word starts with a lowercase rounded letter (a, c, d, g).

Also a side note if you read that first page, I didn’t know that longhand meant basically writing by hand lol. I thought it meant writing in cursive 🤣 I only looked it up after that first entry.

Question (not for transcriptions) i'm new to handwriting, i got some questions!!!

hi, my hand writing has always been really bad, slow, and inconsistent, so i've decided to do the right thing and actually do a bit of research and learn how to write properly...

i watched a bit of youtube (a lot of Perfect Biscuits on youtube, his videos are so good!!!), and learned that i finger write, and use too much pressure, and all the usual beginner mistakes...

i've been working on killing the bad habits (like too much pressure and only finger writing, in contrast to arm writing), and practice is the way, so i'm gonna do a bunch of that, but i got questions i couldn't find answers to on youtube:

  1. do the hand writing drills that i assume were designed for english, work for a very differently written language like arabic? (especially considering english is LTR while arabic is RTL)

  2. am i meant to angle the paper/notebook a certain way? since i was young i always angled the notebook aggressively to the left (i'm right handed) when i used to finger-write, do i angle the notebook when arm-writing at all?

  3. when arm writing, am i meant to rest a part of my arm on the table as a pivot point? or should my arm essentially float... because if i understand correctly, resting a bit of my palm on the paper like i used to when finger writing isn't ideal for when i'm trying to arm write, so now that i arm write, should i rest any part of my arm on the table/paper?

Feedback (constructive criticism) My Loki Cola Cursive

Post image
5 Upvotes

I'm practicing my cursive, and I've been using loki cola because it's pretty and legible, but I also would like to work on my capital letters, there are only a few I really like, My 'A's evolved from partially drawing stars, and my 'S's are backwards treble clefs.

How is my writing, and does anyone have nice fancy capital letters I could get insperation from?

Feedback (constructive criticism) Bic Morning Pages

I find Morning Pages to be very helpful, not only for my writing, as I like to write fiction, but with my journaling, and also, it keeps me in practice with my cursive. As I write more and more, I'm noticing subtle changes with my style. I have to be careful not to let bad habits creep in.

Does anyone else feel they have to keep an eye on their handwriting so they don't start slipping?

Figured I’d also use the typical prompt to cover every letter in my script. Pardon the lack of punctuation in the second post

I'm 29 years old. I was taught cursive randomly by my class teacher when I was around 9-10 years old. It wasn't even part of our curriculum; he was just pissed our handwriting was horrible. Although I can write in blocks, cursive stuck with me throughout.

Feedback (constructive criticism) My writing during psychosis

TW: psychosis

This post was inspired by a post from another sub r/whatisit where someone shared illegible writing from a student. Someone was able to decipher most of it, and it reminded me my own writing from psychosis. I was suggested to share it here.

Not looking to decipher - there is no need. Suprisingly, I can read most of it, even if I have no idea why I wrote it. The first image is a recent one, not during psychosis.

Nothing in the content should be harmful, more me writing about writing or my own feelings. In last months, I wrote more on the computer and this makes me feel I should keep using a pen as well.

I was trying to share the really crazy stuff, but I forgot I kept most of it in my head. That is a story for another time, I guess.

My motivation to share this, is that psychosis is sometimes connected with violence and danger. Some of use just spent our time writing and drawing silly stuff, at least I am.

Feedback (constructive criticism) Everyday I find myself with this problem

Post image

Summarizing what I wrote, I usually have difficulty to write properly whenever my elbow has no where to be placed, leading me to write everything like this.

I practice strokes, pen holds, fonts everyday just to make it legible and even easier for me to write quickly in my own style.

And though I am satisfied with my writing, I am not satisfied with this squinted and close letters that sometimes gets hard to read. And also my Minuscule R’s, I changed them for the Palmer stroke because when I used to write them fast they looked more like an N or S rather than an R, and this new R just either looks like this “r” or like a “v”.

So I need some help with how to support myself when there is nowhere to support.

Question (not for transcriptions) I want to learn cursive so badly…

I would really love to write in cursive. Or have some form of whimsy and frolicking in the flower field esque style. However, I have no idea where to start. Any suggestions on where I could start? I’ve been practicing cursive lettering… I’m just having issues with fluidity. I feel really cheated since when I (F20) was in school they stopped teaching it.

I just wanted to share how I write normally. A handful of people praised my handwriting for years, so I thought I was doing pretty well, and then I saw some of the entries here, and oh boy, I was humbled. Nevertheless, I love the act of writing on a paper with a pen - it is so therapeutic.

Hello! First time posting here.

I love to hand write my notes, although it seems to take longer and maybe not the most efficient thing to do when you're dealing with lots of material. It also feels like I have to do my pens a justice, considering I have way too many for one person.
But I really enjoy the process, so I just wanted to share with you all. :)

hope you're having a great day!

I already had a good foot in cursive before learning how to write properly with my arm. Please let me know if it’s legible, and how I can improve! :]

(Ps. Sorry if it’s a bit of a ramble lol)
