MEGATHREAD 2026/27 Semester 1 AUTUMN/WINTER: where are you going on Erasmus?

Every semester there will be a megathread for the people that are currently on Erasmus, internship or studying abroad in general. Spot someone in the same city as you? Maybe your very first friends can be met on this thread!

You can post whatever you like here, you can also post your comment like this:

• Where are you on Erasmus (Country + City)? Why did you choose this city/country?

• How is your experience so far? (If you are already there!)

• How you found accommodation?

• Advice for future students in your country + city

Are you a student going on your erasmus in Spring 2027? This thread might help you

Old thread: MEGATHREAD 2025/26 Semester 2 Spring: where are you going on Erasmus? : r/Erasmus

* This megathread is earlier than the usual ones. This is so that others can maybe find people who go to the same city as them and to already engage in conversation for that. But the thread stays up until January for sure!

Accommodation MEGATHREAD - Looking for your Erasmus room/studio?

Hey there! Are you about to go on exchange on your Erasmus but haven't found accommodation yet? No worries!

Below are some sites that can help you find accommodation in the country you are going to. So far, all the countries have been listed, so plenty of websites to pick from to get your accommodation ready. Some websites do not have an English version, keep that in mind. And remember:

NEVER PAY WITHOUT SEEING YOUR CONTRACT!

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

None of these websites have paid any sort of advertisement to be featured here nor am I as a moderator receiving any type of commission. I want r/Erasmus users to get their accommodation as cheap, clean and good as possible.

That being said, some websites do request money for you to have a subscription to them. It is your own responsibility if you choose to do this. Every country should have options for free room searching.

This list will stay pinned in the sub to help others. Remember: If you see an accommodation site that is not to be trusted, please let me know! If any site is deemed very untrustworthy, it will be removed instantly.

For (most) Erasmus countries:
Spotahome - https://www.spotahome.com/
Uniplaces - https://uniplaces.com
Housinganywhere - https://housinganywhere.com
Facebook groups
Airbnb - https://airbnb.com Erasmusu - https://erasmusu.com/

Most students find their accommodation through Facebook groups, so make sure to have an account ready and join as many housing groups for your city as you can. Remember that there are also a lot of scams on Facebook. You can recognize these by something being too good to be true (a 500 euro apartment in the city centre of Amsterdam, for example, such a thing costs 2000 minimum) or if the person posting it immediately asks you to pay.

Extra tip for finding accommodation in most Erasmus countries:

- Join the ESN whatsapp groupchats of your city before you go (you can usually find this on links on their instagram page or on their facebook page). Around the end of the semester (december/january, may/june) people start leaving their places and put this inside the groupchat. Take your chance and grab a room from previous Erasmus goers!

Oh oh, HELP! I still have not found accommodation with any of these websites!

Try to go to the subreddit of the city you want to do your semester(s) in and see if you can find anything there. For example, you want to do your Erasmus+ in Rome, so go to r/Rome and search the searchbar for 'housing' 'accommodation' if you cannot find anything make your own post. If nothing there, go to r/Italy. Natives in their own country know the housing market best!

Have you been on Erasmus before (or you've lived in one of these countries and you know the housing market well), tell us which accommodation website is missing and I will add it (if the name is reputable, that is).

My partner says it’s better if I cancel my Erasmus plan to Gothenburg.

Hello everyone,
I have been trying to go on this Erasmus semester for a year.
Why I say “trying”? Because the first time I got rejected (very strange) and so I went to my university Erasmus event and talked to my coordinator and another person responsible for the process. Then I applied the next time and got nominated.

I’m an international student in Germany and I have been nominated for an Erasmus in Gothenburg.

The Erasmus grant will be only 2000 € for the whole 6 months. I already have some savings but my partner who already lives in Sweden says that it’s highly likely that you won’t be able to make it and you probably will need to ask for financial help from me or your dad.

He is probably right. However my plan was to work a part time job while I’m there.

I’m aware of Sweden’s unemployment rate and all the stuff but is it really impossible to find a job?
I’m currently working in Germany and saving money but I really want (and like) to work there as well.

What do you think?
What has been your experience in Gothenburg or any other Swedish city?
I would appreciate your opinions and suggestions.

Erasmus exchange in psychiatry

I’m a psychiatry resident and would like to spend some time during my residency abroad as part of an Erasmus exchange.

To take part in the Erasmus programme, residents have to find a placement themselves.
I’m open to any possibilities anywhere in EU (althogh I’m fluent only in English, but I know that other contries also accept exchange residents, even if they do not know the local language)

I was wondering if someone in the Reddit community could share any contacts or recommendations for hospitals or people I could reach out to. Unfortunately, the sites for hospitals are not informative, and I haven’t been able to find much useful information about opportunities for visiting/resident placements in psychiatry, so any advice, contacts, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Erasmus Mundus Non-EU Erasmus Graduates: What Was Your Job Search Experience Like?

I'm considering applying for an Erasmus Mundus master's program next year and would love to hear from non-EU graduates who stayed and worked in the EU after graduation.

Most of the content I find online focuses on scholarships and student life, but I'm more interested in the reality of finding a job as a non-EU citizen, especially in the post-COVID job market.

How difficult was your job search? How long did it take? Did visa sponsorship make things harder? Which country and field are you working in now?

I'm looking for honest experiences—the good, the bad, and the challenges you faced.

Thank you!

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad UC3M vs IE vs UE madrid

Hey! I'm very lost right now. Im thinking between doing an exchange at either UC3M madrid, IE Madrid (or segovia campus), or Universidad Europea de Madrid.

Can anyone who has gone to any of these or knows please advise on which is best, and the props and cons of each?

Thank you!

Universitat de Valencia (Valencia) vs Universidad del Atlántico Medio (Gran Canaria)

Hi!

We are two students from Romania who would like to study at one of these two universities for one semester through Erasmus, but we’re not sure which one to choose. We already have Erasmus experience, and we’re looking for an affordable option in terms of both living costs and university requirements. Ideally, we’d prefer a university where attendance isn’t mandatory for every single class.

What have your experiences been like with these universities and the cities they’re located in? Which one would you recommend, and why?

How the rental scam usually works in Barcelona, so you can spot it early:

· The listing is well below market — under 980 € a month, sometimes half.
· The photos are good, and reverse-searching them finds them elsewhere.
· The owner is "abroad" and can't show you the flat.
· You're asked for a transfer to "reserve" it before any contract exists.

The rule that avoids nearly all of it: never pay a person directly before a contract. Any real platform holds the money until the booking is confirmed.

Erasmus+ Internship Thinking of completing an internship in a scandi country!

Hey so im a 2nd year student in the UK studying forensic psychology, I know in scandi countries there is a big emphasis on rehabilitation. I think a summer or few month internship would be really valuable for me
Has anyone else done this? Or any advice on how to get into this more?

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad Erasmus rant

Ok I have been trying to share smth like this for some time, even write everything out here then left it. I think I needed time to conclude if my feelings were constant maybe, or if I start having a different perspective. But, everything is the same.

So, for context my compulsory Erasmus was in Spain, and it was also language related. I feel like that may have been the stem for my lack of enjoyment of Erasmus. Not initially, at first I was not afraid of doing this and I knew that the language level would go up and it will work out smoothly and happily. But once university started it felt daunting. Not knowing anyone, being the only Erasmus in one class, different grading, lecturers, and assessment.

Now the university itself is not the only factor, in fact it was a combination of them that ended up making my life somewhat inconvenient over there. Main one of all is the lack of clarity in terms of my accommodation, especially towards the end. The confusing contract, the agency, the flat itself, and how I ended up letting it consume me for so long in til the end.

Another factor, was in fact long distance. That was never the plan of course but it happened. And to my surprise it was a common thing. In a way it made me feel better that we are all in the same boat and made quite a few friends where going out was the least of their concerns (where initially my idea was to go feral). So, in that case, there was a lot of missing and many (too many) trips home on the weekends and that kind of ruined the flow. By the second semester I genuinely was upset going back and just wanted to stay. But I went anyway.

Now, for the positive side, as mentioned, I met a lot of fun and good proper l people who I am still in touch with today. Traveled a fine amount, and went to parties (miss the night life in fairness) according to my budget, and overall cannot complain about this aspect. But come back to my flat, as much as I tried to romanticise it, was not my favourite thing.

In relation to the flat there were positives, like the convenient location and the room was big and very nice once I made it my own. But living with people is smth I wish to never experience again. And Spanish landlords are my worst nightmare, as mentioned (its genuinely a whole separate story - still waiting on my deposit 4 months later 😑)

The university and academic side if things is also a long story for a separate post, but overall this one is for a brief overview to say how mixed my feeling are on this experience. Finance was the least of my issues, as I thought that would be, but in the end it was the inevitable stress.

I massively underestimated how expensive my year abroad would be, so I built this

Last year I studied abroad in Santiago, Chile and one thing I massively underestimated before going was how much living there would actually cost.

I obviously looked at costs before I went, but there wasn't really anywhere that showed me what I would actually be spending as a student. I knew roughly what things cost in Chile, but that didn't really prepare me for how much I was actually going to spend living in Santiago.

It ended up being way more expensive than I expected.

So I started building PeerAbroad.

It's a website where you can look at actual student costs for different exchange cities, things like rent, groceries, transport, going out, gym, SIM etc, alongside reviews from students who have actually studied there.

I've spent the last few months researching and checking all the cost data and I've finally got it to a point where I'm happy actually sharing it.

PeerAbroad Link

There's still loads I want to add, so if anything is confusing, wrong or you think something is missing, genuinely tell me.

Also if you've already been on exchange, I'd really appreciate it if you left a review of your city. I want to build up enough experiences that someone thinking about going somewhere can actually hear from students who've already done it, rather than going in not really knowing what to expect.

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad Leaving early bc family death?

Hello, as already stated in the title. My grandfather died and the funeral is in three weeks. I've been contemplating if I should quit and leave earlier because I've been here two months so far and while I had some fun days, most were rather meh. I've been to events, met people, explored the city but I haven't made any closer friends and the city is so small with nothing really happening so I was spending most days mainly inside with nothing really to do. So I don't think I would miss anything if I leave early. And now with my grandfather dead, grieving while feeling so alone and like I left my family alone at home I feel genuinely awful most days.

I also don't really know what I'm expecting from that post rn but maybe what you would do in my situation?

Because going home feels like I gave up the experience, like maybe it would get better, and if I stay here I just feel awful and alone for the next two months when the semester is over.

What are some pointers for writing a strong SOP and/or Motivation Letter for Erasmus Mundus?

I’m planning to apply for an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s program, but I’m concerned about my CGPA (3.08/4.0) given the competitive applicant pool from South Asia.

I’ve read that a compelling Motivation Letter or Statement of Purpose can help balance out a lower CGPA. For those who have navigated this or evaluated applications, what key elements make an SOP stand out? Any specific tips on addressing academic background or highlighting relevant strengths would be greatly appreciated!
