2026 Burlington Municipal Election: Candidate AMAs

As part of the 2026 Burlington municipal election discussions, candidates are welcome to request an Ask Me Anything (AMA) in r/BurlingtonON .

An AMA gives Burlington residents an opportunity to ask candidates questions directly about their platforms, priorities, experience, and views on municipal issues.

How it works:

  • Candidates interested in hosting an AMA should contact the moderators through Modmail.
  • The moderator team will verify the candidate's identity and coordinate a date and time.
  • Once approved, the candidate will create and manage their own AMA post.
  • Residents can submit questions in the AMA thread, and the candidate can respond directly.
  • Normal subreddit rules apply. Moderators will moderate the discussion but will not screen questions on behalf of candidates.

Fairness and participation

The same opportunity is available to candidates running for Burlington municipal office. AMAs are voluntary, and participation is not an endorsement by the r/BurlingtonON moderator team.

Candidates are responsible for their own statements and responses. Residents are encouraged to keep questions and discussion civil and relevant to the election.

To request an AMA, please contact the moderators through Modmail.

Question Young children at dog parks

Am I the only one who thinks it’s irresponsible to bring young children into a dog park? There are large dogs running around.
This weekend a young boy, maybe 5 years old ran at my dog in here. Thankfully she is used to children and was fine with this interaction.
I am a big animal lover and I work with children. I think it’s irresponsible parenting and I’m pretty sure on the signs it says not recommended, or am I wrong?
Or at the very least teach children running at unknown dogs, teasing them, etc is not safe.
Animals are unpredictable and even the best of dogs can snap. I’ve also been run into by large dogs by accident that take me out. Imagine a large breed dog running by accident full force into your child.
It just makes me incredibly nervous for the kids and dogs.
Dog parks are controversial in general, I’m aware of this. However, I’d never bring a young child or baby into one.

Question Potential move from Toronto

My spouse and i have been living in downtown Toronto since the summer for work. We've been loving how accessible the city is and our 2 year old has really settled well. However, we are considering a move in the near future to grow our family. We don't want something too quiet, but aren't after a crazy nightlife either, and have heard good things about Burlington.

Has anyone else made a similar move before?

Question Lasagna recommendations needed

It's not even noon, but I am pregnant and this is what baby wants for dinner apparently. Open to take out or bake your own from frozen. Who has the best lasagna in burly? Bonus points if I can also snag a solid salad or vegetable side at the same place.

Looking for some recommended contractors who could finish the job and just put the shed together for me.

Question Looking for affordable movers in Burlington

Hi everyone! Any recommendations for good and affordable movers in Burlington?

It’s a very small move. I only need to move a sofa, dining table, and 2 chairs. Just looking for someone reliable who won’t charge a crazy minimum for such a small job.
Would really appreciate any recommendations based on personal experience.

Thanks!

I’m all for folks building tree forts and generally fucking around in the ravine. I too attended bush parties and hung out in the forest, as a millennial raised in Oakville.

But PLEASE don’t leave your shit around. Pick up your trash and beer cans. Don’t rip open a Reese’s and drop the wrappers as you walk. Leave no trace so that you don’t bait yourself. The entitlement is shrieking.

Don’t make me be the Karen about this. I have never wanted that job. But if you think leaving shit everywhere including nails on the ground is not going to get attention, I guess that’s the missing common sense epidemic at play.

Politics Mayor Marianne Meed Ward Out Placing Her Own Signs

EDIT: It’s painful that this even needs to be said, but obviously you should review all the candidates platforms before making a voting decision. This post was strictly documenting the personal experience I had, that led me to incorporate the merit and character of a candidate into my decision, after having already reviewed platforms.

I won’t pretend to know how any of this policy campaigning works, via volunteers or paid staff, or if this is common place for smaller municipal elections or not. I just thought it was worth mentioning.

I hadn’t really decided yet who I was voting for in the upcoming mayoral election, but I just witnessed the current standing mayor, Marianne Meed Ward, out in the Brant Street area, hammering in a few of her own signs.

A smaller scale, and new contender for a ward councillor position, I would not be surprised to see something like that. But the current standing mayor…I feel like someone in her position, you would absolutely have enough volunteers or paid staff supporting your campaign to have someone doing that job.

The fact that she is out on the weekend doing it herself on her own time, I really respect. It can be extremely easy sometimes for folks to get caught up in the hierarchy and status of their position, and to fall into the recurring self thought of having ā€œmore important things to doā€, or worse yet, ā€œI’m to important for that workā€.

Kudos Mayor, you just won my vote with a simple act of humility, and not being afraid to get your hands dirty.

Hi all, we’re new to Burlington after spending years in Toronto. I don’t have my ā€œgo toā€ spots anymore. So I’m looking for recommendations on:

Many thanks in advance!

Any organization out there that would like to buy and donate backpacks? Costco on Brant street has these Roots backpacks at $10 each.

They told me they may have many more. You may need to have them check inventory.

Question Paint damage to vehicle

Does anyone know how to find out where road line painting was recently done?

Found white road paint down both side of my vehicle this morning but have not driven through any areas that were blocked off or look to be painted recently?

Has anyone dealt with the city for this to be remedied?

Question Salmon run

Any good spots in and around Burlington to see salmon run?

We have two energetic toddlers eager to see the salmon jumping up and down.

We went to Bronte Creek in Oakville but the park gate was closed even before their stated time at 7pm.

Any other locations where people have been able to see it closer to Burlington?

Politics I'm candidate Chris Bouchard of Ward 6. Just giving you another friendly reminder that I'm doing an AMA this Sunday from 10am - 12pm.

It's for all Burlington residents, don't feel that you shouldn't ask a question just because we might not live in each other's wards. All councillors have a duty to be here for everyone, not just our own ward. And if I hear from everyone, then it becomes easier to better understand and collaborate with your councillors on fast tracking solutions.

Look forward to hearing from you on Sunday morning. Take care and have a great weekend!

Question What’s life in Burlington like compared to Oakville?

I was told not to move my wellness practice to Oakville from Toronto because people don’t do much there and there’s no sense of community. Someone suggested Burlington instead. I have a niche wellness practice (something along the lines of massage and reiki) and am curious if Burlington might be a better area for me. Also is Burlington generally walkable? Thanks!
