Sligo creek parkway partially closed off only on weekend?
Or is it like beach drive where a part is permanently closed off to cars? TIA

Is there anyone who lives near (within one mile!) logan circle who has a parking pad or other outdoor space we can paint a ghost bike in, then chain it up to dry for 1-2 days? Obviously not starting until the rain stops. Also you don't have to be home or help paint, but the space should be easy to access from your alley.
Also if you live on Rhode Island between Logan Circle/13th St NW and 14th St NW also please reach out.
installation might be quiet, not a big event. it is a tricky location; ghost bikes/scooters at Dupont(NPS) get removed quickly.
EDIT: https://www.fox5dc.com/news/bicyclist-dies-weeks-after-collision-downtown-dc
might need to do a few. i believe there might also be a small backlog from this year.

Big fence blocking the 15th street bike lane and sidewalk east of the White House. Especially dangerous going north. Guessing this is related to the Chinese state visit.

Who do I need to talk to? I would even put in work myself if it were authorized. It seems a bit absurd how long this has been an issue given the amount of traffic on this section of the MBT

Anybody have any experience biking with kids or dogs in a trailer on the C&O? Doing GAPCO soon and debating getting an ALLEN Deluxe Dog Trailer and bringing along my dog for the ride. I know C&O can get a little bumpy in some parts but not sure how bad it is for a passenger in a trailer. I would bring him if he would enjoy it (he loves camping and riding in my backpack, which I can only do for short distances) but if he would be jostled around and uncomfortable I'd leave him with a friend.

Howdy, not sure if this will go against sub guidelines (not an ad but maybe is idk). My partner locks her lock to her frame when she bikes home…. It is now permanently locked on as she lost the key :/ Planning on heading to Lowe’s to rent one, but figured I’d put out feelers! Does anyone have an angle grinder ??
EDIT: I did just take it to Logan hardware and they got it off for me.

On cyclingclassic.com, it says a 12.5mi route, 5 laps taking gold and the race being 7-10am.
I am assuming that means (to win gold) 62.5mi under 3 hours, yes? (21mph by the math only)
(And here's where the overthinking comes in) UNLESS it's a 2.5mi course and you're going back and forth for 5 laps, equaling 12.5mi.
My work commute has taken me through the ride on Independence ave- but it didn't really seem like a whole lapping crit race sort of situation?? I may have been on the tail end of the ride-
TIA

My wife and I are casual/moderate bike riders. We are thinking about riding the C&O Trail from Harpers Ferry to DC this October and taking Amtrak back to our starting point. We like to break it into two days. Any thoughts, suggestions or cautions?

I used to love picking up relatives at National and driving them across the Potomac River. The views were always so breathtaking. The multiple low bridges crossing the river. The Kennedy Center, Jefferson Memorial, Memorial Bridge etc, etc etc. Today I took a ride on the path next to the Kennedy Center and crossed under Memorial Bridge to the historic sites and OMG! Everything is fenced off. So many historic landmarks in disrepair. Horrific fake gold statues. So many detours I had to get off the path countless times and even got lost once. Damaged trees. Why are there two gigantic pink stone American flags flanking the Lincoln Memorial? WTF! National Guard wielding camo and machine guns. Unbelievable and very very sad.
No matter what side of the political spectrum our past Presidents were on, they all took pride in at least keeping our nation’s capital beautiful. Trump has truly destroyed our home. This is so embarrassing.

Not my finest moment. Took my boy to school this morning and then came back to home office before I had a team lunch to get to. So, I just cafe locked my rear wheel and left my bike behind my shed rather than in it. A little lazy, but I would be back outside in about two hours and my office window even overlooks my backyard.
Still, someone picked up a 60 lbs bike with an immovable back wheel and took it without me noticing it. I don't have Facebook or anything, so if you happen to see this Radpower Radcity 4 for sale, I'd really appreciate it. It's got an aftermarket front fork after it survived being hit by a car a few years back, which makes it fairly unique.
I walked all the nearby streets and alleys to see if someone gave up with no luck. Almost had 5,000 miles on it, but the odometer reset itself twice, so it'll only be 2,900 if they list it that way.
Thanks, all.

this dude was parked in the bike lane this morning, and started threatening me when I took a picture.
he then said he was gonna fight me and chased after me on foot as I left, then got back in his car and started driving aggressively (he was by then behind a few cars and I cut through a few alleys and one ways to get away).
real cool

Did someone lose an earring on 14th Street, outside Trade? I found it, stuck to my tyre, on my ride to work 🥴 😭
I could hear the air hiss out over the sound of traffic! Feel like such a thing could only happen in DC - where there's a high concentration of cyclists, bike lanes, and folks who accessorize 🤓 😂
So question: do I need a new tyre?

A month ago, I took a spill on my bike and dislocated my shoulder. I called my spouse to get to the ER because I didn't want to leave my bike behind.
But I was wondering, if I didn't have a ride, would the ambulance take your bike for you? What are your options if you don't want to leave the bike behind?

Hi all! I’m new to the area and wanting to start cycling to work. I live off of Southern Ave in SE DC, and work in Arlington. I’m checking out a Trek 1000 today, but am wondering if it will be too stiff for the rougher roads (particularly SE DC) I’ll encounter on the commute. The other option I’m looking at is an older gravel bike (didn’t catch the brand, but rode it and it was comfortable). Any thoughts?? I know very little about bicycles so all information is welcome.

You probably remember the Connecticut Avenue bike lane saga -- long story short, DDOT had spent years planning to build a great protected bike lane on about 3.5 miles of Connecticut Avenue, before Mayor Bowser suddenly cancelled the project in spring 2024. From that moment on, it was clear that the plan was dead, at least as long as Mayor Bowser was in office.
But as you know, we're getting a new mayor next year, which means this is our best chance (maybe our only chance) to get the project re-started and back on track. We need to make sure that incoming mayor Janeese Lewis George knows this project is important to us and knows that she should prioritize it as soon as she takes office.
To that end, there are two opportunities coming up this month to help draw attention to the issue:
First, mayor-to-be Lewis George is holding listening sessions in all 8 wards to get input from residents before she takes office. The ward 3 session will be on Thursday, September 24 from 5:30 – 8:30pm. You can RSVP here: https://www.mobilize.us/janeesefordc/event/1008203/
Next, on the morning of Wednesday, September 30, WABA is hosting a group ride down Connecticut Ave, starting at Chevy Chase Circle and going to Dupont Circle: https://waba.org/event/ct-ave-09-30-26/
Please join us for one or both of these events and help spread the word! The more people we can turn out, the louder our message will be. Although to be honest if you have to pick one I'd say the JLG town hall is more important.
Hope to see you all there!

Sept 14 edit: "The start date for the next phase of construction on the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge Project has been updated from September 15 to September 21, 2026."
"Beginning September 15, 2026, the bike and pedestrian trail across the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge will close as the project enters its next phase of construction. The closure is anticipated to remain in place through September 2027 while crews complete bridge reconstruction and construct a wider sidewalk with upgraded lighting and fencing.
"During the closure, signed bike and pedestrian detours will be in place utilizing Key Bridge and Arlington Memorial Bridge."
I usually mix in laps around Hains Point into my Saturday morning rides. With tomorrow being the "DC Bike Ride" event, should I consider the loop as essentially closed during those hours and stay away? I saw that their route has them going counter-clockwise around the point.
