Discussion The other world living in the bottom of my canister filter

I noticed some shriplets in the hoses to the canister filter and the flow had slowed down so I figure I should open it up and see what's inside. Shrimps, and snails and critters of all kinds. Dropped some in the tank and the fish went nuts for em.

Advice Needed TW: Bugs in my Hikari shrimp food

Opened up my shrimp pellets for the first time in a while and they are swarming with bugs. My immediate instinct is to throw them away but like, are these springtails? Potential protein for my fish? Looking for silver linings here cuz this is lowk nasty.

14.5 gallon bowl on the left, heated, filtered with a sponge filter and an extra air stone, has fish, may look at earlier posts for more info. The other two are shrimp bowls which are also heated and with their own air stone but no fish as they are only 4 gallons.

I built the light stands myself, the domes are purchased tho.

Oldest bowl is the one in the middle at 8 months, right one has about 5 and big one is 5 weeks old.

The flower is a lie its a rain lilly i failed to collect with the bulb so there it is to look pretty for a bit. ;p

Showing Off My Tank Rate my aquarium

Hi, this is the first ever aquarium I've bought. It's 336 litres and is freshwater tropical. I did the scape and sandfall all myself this weekend. I have several tall stem plants I wish to add as well as a few minor adjustments to be made, but I'm happy so far. What do you think?Any tips to get this looking better

It's a little hazy now after new sub added etc but it'll soon style back to crystal clear

Any advice is welcomed as well as constructive criticism

Thank you :)

Advice Needed Will my Juvenile Jaguar cichlid's be okay without food for 5 days? (Read bio, Pic irrelevant)

Post image
8 Upvotes

So me and my girlfriend went on vacation on Friday, I told my girlfriend to give my mother the key to the house so she can feed my pair of 2 inch juvenile Jaguar cichlid's that I'm growing out in a 180 gallon (which I normally feed daily) along with my other tanks so they wont be without food till I get back on Wednesday night. Well to my dismay my mother calls me and tells me that my girlfriend gave the wrong key so she has no way to get in the house and I'm a 10 hour drive away. I fed them all well Friday before leaving so technically they'll be without food Saturday through Tuesday and I will feed them Wednesday night. Am I worrying too much?

Advice Needed Best way to catch fish without destroying the whole tank?

Post image

I have a planted 28g with 2 German Blue Rams, 8 Strawberry Rasbora, 10 Amano Shrimp, 8 Sterbai Cory, and 7 Gold Neon Tetras.

I’d like to remove the 7 Gold Neon Tetras and move them to another tank, so I can add a few more Strawberry Rasbora, and have a lower bioload. These are the first neon tetras I’ve had, and they’ve gotten a little bigger than I thought neon tetras would get. I like the Strawberry Rasbora size much better for this tank.

Unfortunately these neons are really fuckin fast, and I cannot catch them. As soon as my net touches the water they’re all hiding in the plants. I’ve tried sinking the water bottle with bait in it, and they completely ignore it.

I’d rather not rip out all of my plants and wood and such to be able to catch them.

Any ideas on how to catch these little punks?

It’s is MDF. How ever using a plastic sheet and a roll of paper towels has meant that despite this being the third tank I keep on this cabinet I haven’t gotten any expansion yet…

I used to have a 5 gallon. Then a 10. Then a 10 + 5.

For the 20 gallon I reinforced the hell out of it. The entire back is braced by 3/4 plywood and bolted to pretty much stop any racking or lateral forces. I added a leg in the middle. And I braced the top shelf with aluminum square tubing with plywood cut to distribute the weight directly onto the legs.

Other than the fact this is made out of MDF. Tell me what you think.

Advice Needed need urgent advice on what to do

Post image
• Upvotes

hello everyone, i need to ask advice from you guys because i'm really worried about what i should do: this is my 80 litres (23g) tank, i have 9 rummynose tetras, 9 cardinal tetras, 1 honey gourami, 6 panchio kuhlii and 2 harlequin rasboras (i had 10 originally but i had to give them away and i wasn't able to catch 2 so i left them in the tank and now they live with the new fish) the tank is a almost a year old and can sustain this much bioload perfectly fine parameters are good and i register almost to none nitrates and no ammonia, the problem is that the two harlequin rasboras left occupy too much territory and sometimes dash towards other fish to chase them away and keep them in the lower part of the tank, i worry about this behaviour even tho i still have not seen any fin nips. i guess this behaviour comes from the rasboras being only 2 and not in a big school like they should, i tried to catch them to return them to the store but it's almost impossible with all the plants and wood, so i was asking myself, is it a good idea to add another 3/4 to make a school and make them feel safe? will this likely stop the chasing behaviour? could i sustain another 4 fish?

Betta My first planted Aquarium

• Upvotes

I raised two bettas in a bowl during my childhood; I realise now that was harsh, though I lacked awareness then. Today I have completed my first five-gallon planted tank and acquired my betta. He is a calm yet anxious fish who has not flared—except when I placed a mirror before him one day to test his response, and he did. He greets me whenever I approach, and I hope he enjoys the setup.

I plan to add more plants. I am considering reducing the beach on the left by adding some Aquasoil towards the back, leaving the beach only in the front left area.

Also, I would like some name suggestions if y'all have some interesting ones.

Identification Request Help identifying critters

We recently added some shrimp to our planter tank and have had a bunch of tiny critters appear along with them. Think they are copepods but would appreciate some help identifying them as we’re just not sure 🤔

Medical Help Silver Dollar - HELP

Sorry for the bad quality images.

One silver dollar acting erratic. It's bending its body violently left and right

Context - One of my silver dollars got a white patch on it overnight. After a bit of research, I assume d it got hurt by scraping to driftwood. Not fuzzy patch, just plain smooth white patch.

Water changed the day before and everything was fine. Just to make sure no bacterial infection happens, I added a mild dose (70gms) of aquarium salt to approx 45 gallons of water volume today.

The silver dollar with the patch is acting normally and eating well however this one started acting weirdly after an hour after adding the salt mixture. Other fish seems normal.

Need help understanding if the salt caused it? Is it normal? Anyone observed it previously?

All parameters are normal. A, Ni are 0, Na is under 40 ppm. 28c temp

Betta Meet Happy! After and before.

Apparently he is an hybrid coming from an irresponsible breeder ( he is the sole survivor amongs the babies). He was kept in very bad conditions. Very small bowl with a bunch of dying plants, no lights,no filter or heater. He had fin rot and was lethargic.

The pet store had left him in the bowl he came with instead of putting him in a better tank like the other bettas. The owner told me that she wanted to get him better before selling him, but that if I wanted him now she would do me a big discount because she didn't know if he would survive. I wanted to give the poor guy a chance, so I took him.

I didn't take a picture of the fish bowl, but the state of the water in the bag of the second picture should give you an idea.

The first picture is him 2 weeks after I got him . His fins are already looking better and he is indeed very happy and full of energy.
