Meta Twitter and Meta links are now banned
This ban covers Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.
If you absolutely must post a link to one of these platforms, use an archive service. This shouldn't affect the subreddit too much, as the vast majority of the posts in /r/ActLikeYouBelong are either a text post or a screenshot, but we wish to make our stance clear and so we are joining in on the ban.
Thanks for your understanding.

TIL Napoleon III escaped from a fortress where he was serving a life sentence by disguising himself as a laborer and walking through the main gates carrying a large plank over his shoulder to hide his face. Six years later, he became Emperor of France.

Story Act what you want to be.
Since it’s been a few years and I have left the force I think Im able to share this story.
Back when I was in the police force each shift we’d be briefed on whats cracking off in the area. One of the slides of the presentation was about a 16 year old kid. We were told to keep an eye out for him and lock our cars at a scene or incident. Not because he was a criminal or meant any harm to us or the public but simply because he was obsessed with the police. He wanted to become a police officer himself. Now at first there is nothing wrong with that.
However in this instance colleagues would sometimes find him behind the wheel of their car. Just sitting and pretending to be a cop. It was harmless at first but after a while things would go missing too.
This went on for a while and his big finale came a few months later.
At a yearly festival the officers who had to work there were being briefed before the start of their shift. In the city I worked it was normal that officers from other precincts would join. But no one knew this one ‘colleague’ who joined the briefing. Turned out it was this kid. In full uniform. With gear. The funny thing is it took a good 10 minutes for someone to notice him.
I can’t remember if he got charged with anything.
Ps: excuse my English. Non native and this happened in a EU country.

Napoleon acted like he belonged all the way to being the emperor.

Story Olympic Inspector
I lived in Beijing from 2005-2009, during the Olympics. I had no connection; I was there working elsewhere. I happened to drive by the Olympic site where they were building the cool blue bubble building for swimming and the "Bird's Nest" stadium and I wanted a closer look. There was a fence around the entire area but a gate with a lifting arm. No one was at the guard booth so I just parked the car on the street and walked around the arm and into the site. Someone came to the booth and called out to me but I just turned and smiled and waved. They waved back and I carried on and got a closer look at the buildings--they were really cool. On the way out they asked me something but I didn't speak Chinese so I just gave 'em the ole thumbs up and went to my car. Good job, carry on!

10 years ago my friend and I went viral after sneaking into a bunch of places wearing hi-vis vests. I wrote about it for VICE and was almost sued by Coldplay.
Recently I've been reflecting on a lot of dumb pieces I did for VICE in my early 20s. I remember the original article being discussed on this subreddit a few times over the years. I just wrote a piece looking back on that weird time - and giving more behind the scenes info on what happened that day. Thought it may be of interest to some of you scoundrels

Question How do I act like I'm one of the wealthy crowd?
As someone who's got a lot of social anxiety I feel like I can't see the guideline on how to act or answer people. I am an aspiring actress, with zero connections, and I'd like to try to blend in with the wealthy crowd even though money is tight for me. Since I need connections, and I need a lot of help before I can even get there. I'm not looking for a speedy way to get there, but what are some careful steps and planning that will help me achieve this goal?

Sneaking onto concert floor
I have lawn tickets to see a show at the FPL bayfront solar amphitheater and I heard of people sneaking into the floor seats, and I was wondering if it was possible for this venue!! I know it’s not great etiquette but I will stay in the back of the pit if it means I get to be in the pit at all. I’ve never been to the venue so I don’t know! Maybe I won’t be brave enough to do it. Has anyone done it before and if so, how?

Daejon Love scammed 26 women out of 1.3 million dollars by pretending to be a wide receiver for the San Fransico 49ers. He went so far as not only buy the uniform, but he even filmed a fake locker room celebration with extras.

How to act like I belong at my FAANG consulting job? I do the work but never feel like I’m part of these groups, the way they talk excitedly abt the trivial work (faking value to convey impact forecefully), and other break room convos?

Question Anyone familiar with Lakewood amphitheater ga/ pit bands?
Obviously yes, I know what sub I’m in lol, I have the acting like I belong down, I made fake pit bracelets with some paper Amazon carnival bands last year at a different venue and they just had the single colored bands, walked right through no issue.. However, I’ve never been to Lakewood Amphitheatre, so I’m trying to get a consensus on if anyone who’s been more recently (past few years) knows if they have special bands or something? I cannot for the life of me find anything anywhere and saw a good bit of people in this sub responding to different questions specifically about Lakewood amphitheater in the past. Sorry if this isn’t allowed, but if anyone knows, or knows a better sub to ask in please let me know!

Question how to sneak into career fair that requires registration?
there's a REALLY important career fair that i need to attend tomorrow, but registration has already closed. this means that i'd be denied entry if i tried to walk in without a wristband/qr code/however the entry process works.
any tips on how to get in? also, do you think it's a good idea to go extremely early and ask the first worker there to give me a wristband? (the event is free registration)

Picture Sneaking into Terrifier 4🤡
So I know that Terrifier 4 is miles away from releasing but even then, Ive already planned out a way of sneaking into the screening.
I hope this Strat is good🤡
So when the film releases, it will defintely be 18s! Ill be 16 when the film comes out & of course Ill get caught if I go with my friends so imma go with my Dad instead. He'll buy two tickets for the Terrifier 4 screening. Ill go up first to go into a 15s film, not a kids film as that would be too ovbious :) Once I go into the 15s screening, ill wait for a little bit as my dad enters the Terrifier 4 screening.
Then ill walk out of my screening to see if the coast is clear. Once the time is right, ill sneak into Terrifier 4 & go to my seat!
Im HOPING this works as I really wanna see this film when it comes out! ( I don't think the employees will notice me in the crowd as the seat I would be in would of ben booked)

Question My Date Told Me to Pick the Wine !
Went on a date on Friday and everything was going great but when the waiter handed me the wine list. She goes You pick, and i panicked lol I swear I looked at that menu for like 2-3 minutes i was pretending Im reading it but in reality I had absolutely no idea what I was looking at. Ended up picking something only because of the name lol, and lucky enough she liked it. The whole drive home I kept thinking about how weird it is that I'm almost 30 and wine still feels like this secret club everyone else understands, i dont want to be in this kinda situations anymore. So now i want to start and get more into wines but it seems pretty hard so i decided to post this, any suggestion would be more than welcome.

Question Recently joined Consulting as a Senior Manager and have no idea what I'm doing. Looking for some advice on how to ALYB when all I feel is stress.
The title says the story but to provide more details - I come from an industry background (10 YOE) and have found myself taking up a Senior Manager role in Strategy at a global consulting firm. There are a lot of jargons and a lot of strategy workshops with clients and consulting style workings that I just can't relate to or understand. Someone in my position needs to step up and fast as but I am dealing with confidence issues and feel lost. The support has been minimal because there's just one other SM and he is always unavailable for advice and support. Looking for guidance from the good folks on here on how to deal with this sinking feeling. Thank you.

Question how to sneak into the bts concert
so me and a couple of friends all got separated tickets in the fourth floor of the AT&T stadium because we were among the last of people that got into seat geek ticket purchasing window and we just got unlucky (we had the money for seats in the lower sections)
this is more of a last resort, since we were just gonna check if we could maybe get an upgrade but we wanted to know how we could sneak in to one of the lower sections and sit together if nothing works out. We wanna know methods either pretending reseller seats are ours or any ways we can go through random floors and try to sneak inside. I have never been in arena concert, so I’m clueless when it comes to this
