As a fan, that was hard to watch. I've heard one story before but I didn't know if I could believe it. literally want to barf right now

I know, that was my reaction too. Sorry I had to be the one to ruin the Chili Peppers for you, but what’s done is done I suppose :(

Between Spacey, C.K. and RHCP, I'm pretty disenchanted with any celebrities I've ever looked up to at the moment, but it's 110% necessary because victims should never feel like they're being a burden on people by coming out and saying something - we just want to help.

OMG you know I worked Lollapalooza in the early 90's in Denver (fiddler's green) and I was in the mosh pit when they played and Flea and Anthony were like within touching distance and it was the most exciting moment of my fkn life. I still talk about it. I was super young and they were my favorite band.
I also want to vomit after seeing this <8(
As a gay guy, this hasn't been my week/month. Spacey, Takai and now my bandcrush Anthony. ~!sob!~

*You're
You should look up the definition of reactionary before you use it any more.
And nothing from the early parts of the video make it seem okay at all.

What the hell? Were they all on drugs? How is that even remotely acceptable behaviour?!

Yeah, not acceptable at all. Honestly it’s surprising to me how quick people are to make excuses for them in the comments below. Like, how can you watch this and have your immediate reaction be to try to defend them or attempt to rationalize what they did? Is it really that hard to accept what seems to be the most apparent scenario is actually what’s going on? I dunno, it’s just frustrating.

Look I've taken just about every drug under the sun and none have made me want to do anything like what I just saw. No drug use could ever justify those actions.

Drugs combined with an extremely over-inflated ego and sense of entitlement that usually comes along with the kind of super-stardom the RHCP were experiencing at that time.

RHCP are infamous for sexual harassment and bullying women. I remember reading stories of them cornering women in cupboards and pressuring them into sex. Their early lyrics aren't ironically oversexualised, they're just a bit predatorial.

Yeah doesn't surprise me. My ex-gf told me a story about when she was working for a concert promoter who booked RHCP. She was sent to their tour bus to tell them it was time to come into the venue. Kiedis, who was clearly very drunk/high kept saying/slurring "Hey! Hey honey come'mere give me a blow job". Despite being a RHCP fan she was like "Yeah, no I'm gonna pass. You need to get on stage." "Aww don't be like that come on, blow me real quick"
"No, you need to get on stage"
More begging, etc...
I think she ceased being such a big fan after that.

2017: everyone you've ever known has either participated in or was a victim of sexual harassment/rape. Jesus Titty Fucking Christ. At this point I'm waiting on a mob of women to come out about Mr Rodgers being some sort of serial rapist...

What in the actual fuck? Chad Smith and his ogre looking ass, along with Anthony Horse-face Kieidis, too? I always hated the RHCP for their music, and now I have another reason to go along with that as well. Disgusting, and she was obviously uncomfortable. I couldn't tell, but were John and Flea apart of this, too?

Yeah, John was. Flea kinda stayed out of it for the most part, but IIRC by then he was married with a kid, so that’s probably why.

Was it a recurring gimmick on the James Whale show for guests to act in an outrageous manner? A quick read on the host implies the crux of him and his wifes on air persona is to be mean and offensive.

I dunno, I don’t know much about the show. But regardless, she said no multiple times (and more importantly never said she wanted them to do that and quite obviously didn’t want them to do that), so it shouldn’t really matter.

Search Youtube for James Whale Radio Show, the entire show and persona of the host's is based around aggressive sexual content.

That doesn't make sexually assaulting one of the hosts ok.
4
Nov 13 '17
The scenario likely would have been a scripted or discussed beforehand by the hosts themselves.
15
Nov 13 '17
How do you know? Because the host in question wore a leotard a couple times?
7
Nov 13 '17
Seems the way the show produced many of their segments was to be sexually provocative, Melinda may have asked the RHCP to act outrageously towards so James could feign outrage as they cut to a break, the stagehands interjecting seems set up as well.
26
Nov 13 '17
I highly doubt it honestly. She looks genuinely terrified.
2
Nov 14 '17
Perhaps but given the youtube clips for the show this seems to fit with what James and Melinda typically produce for these segments. Just watched a few clips and literally all of them had elements that were highly degrading and offensive.
7
Nov 14 '17
Huh, alright. I'll check them out. Still, I have trouble believing the fear in her eyes isn't genuine, even if the show in general is kinda out there.
3
Nov 13 '17
How do you know it wasn't?

Nov 13 '17 edited Nov 13 '17
She said no, multiple times, and clearly seemed very scared as they were assaulting her. Like, on the verge of tears. Those two things, among others, tell me this was unplanned and unexpected.
Edit: also, it’s not a huge secret that the Chili Peppers did this kinda thing in the past. While not as 100% verifiable as a literal unedited video feed (which is the case here), there is an article I linked above about a testimony about another incident that’s quite similar to this.

I love how these idiots just sit there while she tries desperately to hold on to some dignity. What a disgrace
