Discussion She almost ruined a proposal.

This was at Crescent Bay Point Park, which allows people to book it special occasions.

Because people weaponize the police and hope they’ll end up shooting someone

Insane take. Hello 911? Yeah some guy is being super aggressive and waving around what could be a gun

I have a theory on this. The hyperrealism and intensity of so much violence in our media makes many people less able to detach it from reality. (This is not a comment on censorship, just on cluelessness).

Nah I'd say it's exactly the other way around. It's violence they don't need to commit themselves, and even one abstraction away from doing it yourself, physically, is already "not real" to them so they can stomach it.

That’s interesting!

The US police’s foundation is rooted in slave catching. This is their history. It shouldn’t be a shock that white peole weaponize as they have already for centuries. It’s always been this way. Social media has just made some naive white people finally realize it the last 10 years

Asking cause I don’t live near this place, but when you have a permit is it posted somewhere for these busy bodies to see? How would she know they didn’t have permission?

Mehhhh

This seems like a business who keeps using a park for events involving a mariachi band. She said "this is every Sunday".

If that was my local park I would be annoyed, and I'd want someone to address it because it IS inconsiderate to everyone else to use public spaces all the time and be disruptive to the point others can't ignore you.

Several people have mentioned it’s a popular park that is known to be booked for private events. If you’d have an issue with that, you should talk to your local government and not the people following the rules to book it.

Yeah but the other person was saying this was an attempt at intimidation.

My point was this seems like a reasonable level of annoyance. She was letting the couple know, because she probably gets they’re one time clients and don’t understand why she would be fed up.

The post was making her out to be racist.

In some places, you do actually call cops if people are being so obnoxious in public spaces they’re ruining it for others.

If this park has different norms she may not know that. Although I agree the right answer seems to be making a stink with the local government to encourage them to limit how often they’ve got people doing “live music” in the park.

The post was calling her racist because she said “to go back to Mexico”. You don’t say those things if you aren’t racist! It doesn’t even occur to you as a thing to say!

No she said “This isn’t Mexico”

That’s fair. A lot of central and South American cultures have an opposite view of public spaces to the US.

In the US if you wanna get loud you have to be sure not to bother anyone else. Your house party can’t be super audible outside, you can’t amble about blasting music at whatever volume, you’ve got to keep public spaces more quiet so that people can rest in them.

In a lot of Latin cultures, public spaces are where you are meant to go and make noise interacting with others, play music, party, and it’s on someone to come tell you to please move it along if you are disturbing their rest at home.

They’re different. Neither is better, but they’re different.

not really true.

if you approach anyone you're looking for a fight. it gets heated and loud and potentially violent. people don't care. they want what they want and they will fuck you up to get it.

if the lady approached and said "you need a permit, the park can't handle all this traffic, the grass is... no parking... litter" they will tell her to fuck off.

call the cops. fuck these people.

You seem delightful

Then why did her dumb ass approach them and say anything? Since according to you she should have gotten fucked up. Or was she looking for a fight? Maybe they should have given it to her then?
