Discussion She almost ruined a proposal.

The amount of people in the US saying they called the police over simple issues is amazing. It must be crazy getting all these crazy calls.

I had a lady threaten to call the cops on my wife and I yesterday because we had to ride our bikes on the sidewalk 50' until we could get back on the bike lane. We pulled off to the side, stopped, and gave her the right away and she still decided to berate and threaten us because "it's a state statute!"

I might have given her a very confident “fuck you”.

Well you did break the law there john wick

Guilty as charged.

Because people weaponize the police and hope they’ll end up shooting someone

u/Aisenth 13h ago

Yes, it's literally a death threat

Insane take. Do better, satan.

Insane take. Hello 911? Yeah some guy is being super aggressive and waving around what could be a gun

I have a theory on this. The hyperrealism and intensity of so much violence in our media makes many people less able to detach it from reality. (This is not a comment on censorship, just on cluelessness).

7

u/Conninxloo 12h ago

Nah I'd say it's exactly the other way around. It's violence they don't need to commit themselves, and even one abstraction away from doing it yourself, physically, is already "not real" to them so they can stomach it.

u/Feisty-Maybe7949 12h ago

That’s interesting!

The US police’s foundation is rooted in slave catching. This is their history. It shouldn’t be a shock that white peole weaponize as they have already for centuries. It’s always been this way. Social media has just made some naive white people finally realize it the last 10 years

Asking cause I don’t live near this place, but when you have a permit is it posted somewhere for these busy bodies to see? How would she know they didn’t have permission?

2

u/thorsbeardexpress 9h ago

I had a wedding in Golden gate Park. I got a permit and it was just a piece of paper

Mehhhh

This seems like a business who keeps using a park for events involving a mariachi band. She said "this is every Sunday".

If that was my local park I would be annoyed, and I'd want someone to address it because it IS inconsiderate to everyone else to use public spaces all the time and be disruptive to the point others can't ignore you.

u/Wooden_Cicada8880 10h ago

Several people have mentioned it’s a popular park that is known to be booked for private events. If you’d have an issue with that, you should talk to your local government and not the people following the rules to book it.

-1

u/fiahhawt 10h ago

Yeah but the other person was saying this was an attempt at intimidation.

My point was this seems like a reasonable level of annoyance. She was letting the couple know, because she probably gets they’re one time clients and don’t understand why she would be fed up.

The post was making her out to be racist.

In some places, you do actually call cops if people are being so obnoxious in public spaces they’re ruining it for others.

If this park has different norms she may not know that. Although I agree the right answer seems to be making a stink with the local government to encourage them to limit how often they’ve got people doing “live music” in the park.

1

u/Wooden_Cicada8880 4h ago

The post was calling her racist because she said “to go back to Mexico”. You don’t say those things if you aren’t racist! It doesn’t even occur to you as a thing to say!

0

u/fiahhawt 4h ago

No she said “This isn’t Mexico”

That’s fair. A lot of central and South American cultures have an opposite view of public spaces to the US.

In the US if you wanna get loud you have to be sure not to bother anyone else. Your house party can’t be super audible outside, you can’t amble about blasting music at whatever volume, you’ve got to keep public spaces more quiet so that people can rest in them.

In a lot of Latin cultures, public spaces are where you are meant to go and make noise interacting with others, play music, party, and it’s on someone to come tell you to please move it along if you are disturbing their rest at home.

They’re different. Neither is better, but they’re different.

Ugh hyperbole in the morning

-6

u/gapingholeoflove 13h ago

not really true.

if you approach anyone you're looking for a fight. it gets heated and loud and potentially violent. people don't care. they want what they want and they will fuck you up to get it.

if the lady approached and said "you need a permit, the park can't handle all this traffic, the grass is... no parking... litter" they will tell her to fuck off.

call the cops. fuck these people.

3

u/IndigoOctober8 13h ago

You seem delightful

3

u/DarkStarrFOFF 12h ago

Then why did her dumb ass approach them and say anything? Since according to you she should have gotten fucked up. Or was she looking for a fight? Maybe they should have given it to her then?

It’s pretty common. I have a criminal justice degree and did ride alongs with a city police department. A lot of calls were to low income areas over basic civil disputes: “My ex came to my house and tried to take the TV, but I helped pay for that TV too and he can’t take it”, etc.

But the real waste of time for police departments is false burglary alarms. A lot of people have alarm systems in their homes or businesses and they can malfunction or be overly sensitive and trigger a call. PD will have to waste their time checking it out.

4

u/earthlings_all 13h ago

That last bit should be handled by a private security service and if they find anything then call the cops. What a waste of resources.

1

u/DarkStarrFOFF 12h ago

That's why a lot of PDs won't even show up to alarm calls unless they don't have anything else to do. Or what I've heard locally, which is why if you have a camera that shows someone is inside then they will actually show up quickly.

I assume that's why so many security companies push their cameras and monitoring now too.

3

u/pilot1nspector 14h ago

Spoiler alert: the police were not coming. She probably called ICE tho

0

u/Present_Current_7425 13h ago

The typical racist out in the wild isn't calling ice they don't know how to on the spot. The go to is 911.

2

u/NinjaWarrior78 12h ago

It’s always the same group of people threatening the police against others. Pathetic.

2

u/dark-star-adventures 14h ago

Most of them don't call, it's a scare tactic to try and get what they want. It's something weak and fragile people do instead of just minding their own business. They constantly use authority (even authority they don't have) like a club.

1

u/cheffgeoff 13h ago

What would be a better way for people to ensure by-laws are enforced? I mean, funding a by-law enforcement better by municipalities so that armed cops don't need to be involved would be great... but right now how else would a citizen get by-laws enforced?

1

u/proof_required 13h ago

Well you shouldn't move to germany. They call police if you make noise after 10 PM.

1

u/Hizam5 12h ago

Police stations and 911 gets hundreds of bullshit calls every day. They are not even in the business of showing up to many actual crimes — albeit minor ones — they are for sure laughing at this broad and not writing a single thing down

1

u/Away_Ad_1784 11h ago

Don't worry it took SDPD 4 business days to respond to this non life threatening call

1

u/GPA_Moses 6h ago

The police are happy to come beat up minorities

1

u/paddlin_kaladin 6h ago

The amount of completely trivial shit Americans get upset over is mind boggling.

1

u/BarraganOwnsAizen 5h ago

It’s white women

1

u/chilldew 4h ago

In principle, there’s nothing wrong with this situation, but for some reason the woman wants to call the police, even though they could just talk it out like normal people and be understanding even if she doesn’t like something.

I don’t know why people often call the police over trivial matters when everything can be resolved through discussion.

1

u/Golddustofawoman 1h ago

My neighbor called the cops on me the other day for asking her to turn her shitty music down in a civil manner.

-6

u/King_Roberts_Bastard 14h ago

You can blame calls like these when it takes cops 20+ minutes to show up. First, they might be dealing with this lady or they might be scared they have to deal with this lady.
