"people angered by the GoFundMe support she's attracted decided to report it and doxxed her."

Crabs in a bucket.

u/ballahook Aug 22 '26

It sounds like they’re upset because they are alleging she misled donators by leading them to believe the GoFundMe was for her community, when she insists she was always just raising money for herself.

Most the anger seems to be coming from people that donated or aren’t from Gary themselves, so I don’t think it’s a crab in a bucket situation. Don’t know who’s in the right, though.

u/Big_Kiwi_706 Aug 22 '26

The crabs in the bucket would probably be her fellow Gary residents who are jealous she is getting a gofundme donation and they are not

Sounds like redditors when they read about someone living well.

5

u/Xsiah Aug 23 '26

It's crazy that people are doing this to her, and not the people in government who failed to prevent or fix this quickly.

They’ve been activated, like the Manchurian Candidate 😭

Gary, Indiana is over 80% African American. Over 80% of African Americans vote Democrat.

11

u/Neatojuancheeto Aug 23 '26

In a deeply red state. You just found the reason the state is giving them very little support.

-2

u/gishgudi Aug 23 '26

Yes the surrounding areas and state are republican. However it appears that it is people within her community that are harassing her.

15

u/Own_Round_7600 Aug 22 '26

Yet somehow Indiana is a red state, governed by a Republican trifecta, hmm how did that happen

1

u/swohio Aug 22 '26

Because a single city isn't an entire state?

-31

u/Eme9137 Aug 22 '26

Uh…. What?

26

u/ayoungmanfromtheuk Aug 22 '26

Conservative ideology is based around selfishness and me first ideology so you get bitterness and resentment like this.

-23

u/Appropriate-Pipe-193 Aug 22 '26

That’s crazy, but conservatives are more charitable than liberals. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34429211/

It's a shame I'd have to pay to examine this study more closely.

But I'm pretty sure I already know how this result was obtained: rich people are notoriously "conservative" (they like the party that lets them hoard more money). Rich people have much larger amounts of spare money to give to charity, and often do so for tax breaks. There's also the fact that giving to a church is considered a charitable donation.

This part of the methodology preview is also a bit suspect to me.

Note that original studies used different references to measure political ideology [...] we transformed multiple references into a consistent one

I'd have to read the full methodology to know if this is even an appropriate way to consolidate these studies. Meta analyses have to do a lot of work to ensure the studies they utilize use similar enough methodological definitions, and not everyone bothers (especially since scientific articles have been swallowed whole by capitalism and are frequently about making money/getting clout instead of producing real, reliable scientific results). Ensuring the definitions are similar enough across all studies to justify combining the data is the hardest part of writing a meta analysis by far, at least to me.

And churches account for 30-40% of all charitable offerings in the US.

Glad you brought this up. I cannot find any data that backs up that amount comes from churches. Are you sure you're not confusing 30-40% of all charitable donations going to churches?

It's entirely possible I'm misunderstanding your point and you were intentionally undermining your own source by pointing out that the reason conservatives are labeled as giving more "charitable donations" is because they give to their church. When most people think of charitable donations, they're thinking of helping sick kids, natural disaster victims, victims of crime, cancer patients, villages without clean water, etc. They're not thinking of the church down the street renovating or the church leader being paid like a doctor (note: not all churches! but enough that they have this reputation of taking advantage of their 501c3 status and their congregants who believe giving 10-20% of their income is a requirement for being a good Christian, even if they're massively struggling financially).

16

u/ayoungmanfromtheuk Aug 22 '26

"controlling for religiosity can account for the variation in effect sizes"

i.e. conservatives give a lot of money to their church and that accounts for the difference.

You didn't even read abstract of the academic article you shared.

-17

u/Appropriate-Pipe-193 Aug 22 '26

And churches account for 30-40% of all charitable offerings in the US. I’m not even religious and not a trump fan, but claiming that conservatism is based on selfishness is a stupid thing to say.

13

u/NemusSoul Aug 22 '26

They are giving it to themselves. Their massive buildings and cooperate jets for pastors. That’s the charity you are taking about. So charitable.

-10

u/Appropriate-Pipe-193 Aug 22 '26

Is there a source for this? Genuinely asking, or if you’re making this assumption on vibes.

10

u/NemusSoul Aug 22 '26

Four decades of the kinds of churches and organizations that represent the largest part of the types we are discussing. It’s simply a self perpetuating “charity” where the pastoral staff, even when paid on a regular working class scale, swallow up all the income. That’s why they always have fundraisers for the extra stuff they may do. I’ve been invited in the financials of dozens of orgs and churches. It is what it is, and should be lumped in with any other “charity” non profit where it’s just a cover for a grift.

The amount they are giving to whatever Christian charities or churches does not offset the damage they do through voting

-1

u/Appropriate-Pipe-193 Aug 22 '26

And churches account for 30-40% of all charitable donations in the US

3

u/Novaer Aug 23 '26

"We paid ourselves money and then got a tax write off for it look how charitable we are"

43

u/Zenpoetry Aug 22 '26

You dont have to put a lid on a bucket of crabs when crab fishing, because anytime one crab tries to escape, The other crabs will grab it and pull it back in. This is a metaphor for ghetto mentality at times "bougie bitch thinks she better than us"

But is also a good metaphor for Republicans anytime anyone wants to improve the country.

29

u/Fool_In_Flow Aug 22 '26

*Any time someone wants to improve the country for the populace, not the rich.

-54

u/Kramerica_CEO Aug 22 '26 edited Aug 22 '26

Huh?

Edit: Jesus Christ you guys are just as bad as those you hate. You have no idea if the people that doxxed are republicans but you get off on blaming people you hate for every thing you don’t like. Sounds familiar huh?

55

u/Informal_Ad3244 Aug 22 '26

Republican policy is to take away, not give.

-11

u/The_Kevinator_1000 Aug 22 '26

What does her getting doxxed have to do with Republican policy?

8

u/ayoungmanfromtheuk Aug 22 '26

Because Republicans are always sticking their nose into other people's business like trying to control access to birth control for example

0

u/The_Kevinator_1000 Aug 23 '26

Oh, so it's just "Republicans bad, therefore they did this bad thing because I don't like them."

Gotcha.

1

u/Novaer Aug 23 '26

Do you think controlling access to birth control is good?

1

u/The_Kevinator_1000 Aug 23 '26

What in the name of Christ does controlling access to birth control have to do with a woman getting doxxed for not spreading around her GoFundMe money?

0

u/Kramerica_CEO Aug 23 '26

And that lead you to thinking republicans doxxed this woman and not the people that thought she was asking for donations for the entire community.

You guys are just as bad as the right and don’t even realize it. You just think you have some moral superiority.

2

u/Novaer Aug 23 '26

Leftists are no where near as hateful, murderous, incestuous and self gratifying as conservatives.

-2

u/Kramerica_CEO Aug 23 '26

I didn’t say they were. But thanks for chiming in. I’m a leftist by the way

Did you think picking 4 random traits disproved my point?

6

u/Informal_Ad3244 Aug 22 '26

Because she has a GoFundMe and people are doxxing her because of it. Republicans really don’t like when relatively poor people get money. So you can make the assumption that the people doxxing her are Republicans, because they don’t like that she’s getting money.

3

u/The_Kevinator_1000 Aug 22 '26

From the video, I got the impression that she was doxxed because someone misunderstood her intention to keep the money for herself rather than distribute it among the community. By that logic, it sounds more likely that she was doxxed by communists.

1

u/Kramerica_CEO Aug 23 '26

No that’s a logical leap you’re making because of your bias. It could very well, and most likely be the people in her area who feel she misled the people that donated.

-14

u/Kramerica_CEO Aug 22 '26

No shit but you have no idea if the people that doxxed her are republicans.

11

u/ayoungmanfromtheuk Aug 22 '26

But based on what they did it seems they are motivated by Republican type ideologies

8

u/Informal_Ad3244 Aug 22 '26

I don’t know for a fact, sure, but I can make an educated guess and say it’s more likely to be Republicans doxxing her over Democrats.

-6

u/Kramerica_CEO Aug 22 '26

Why would you? What do politics have to do with this?

The fact that you’re getting upvotes and I’m getting downvotes is concerning. You seriously lack logic and critical thinking

1

u/Informal_Ad3244 Aug 22 '26

Politics have to do with literally everything. They shape every single aspect of our lives.

I’m not going to engage with ad hominem attacks.

31

u/iammonkeyorsomething Aug 22 '26

We're just being real tbh. It's republicans who do this stuff. Crabs in a bucket is their entire vibe

-17

u/Kramerica_CEO Aug 22 '26

Nah it was a stupid comment. Like yelling “republicans” because a light turned red before you could pass.

Also, im a Dem but lets not act like the Dems aren’t crabs in a bucket too. Why didn’t we get Bernie in 2016 again?

12

u/LadyLazerFace Aug 22 '26

Thanks Obama

15

u/iammonkeyorsomething Aug 22 '26

90 percent chance it's republicans

-2

u/Omega4643 Aug 22 '26

That’s literally the same logic they use to say most crime is committed by minorities. You can’t just make assumptions because it fits your narrative

5

u/iammonkeyorsomething Aug 22 '26

These aren't minorities, they are white supremacist republicans

2

u/Kramerica_CEO Aug 23 '26

This thread is insane. The logical leaps these people are making are nuts and they’re getting upvotes.

I’m a Dem and this is just wild to see. They really are no better than the people they hate and can’t even see it

16

u/Kitchen-Bar2686 Aug 22 '26

Republicans hate people because of their race, sexuality, gender, religion, etc. democrats/leftists hate republicans because they’re racist, homophobic, misogynistic, xenophobic and actively vote to hurt others and destroy lives.

Arguing that that’s the same thing is truly dumb. Boo hoo, bigots get blamed for the exact behavior they perpetuate. Wah wah wah

10

u/Preeng Aug 22 '26

>You have no idea if the people that doxxed are republicans

lol you can't be serious

22

u/Flyingcoyote Aug 22 '26

It's called GoFundMe, not GoFundUs, they can GoGetFucked. If a private company can't keep the power on in a whole CITY, then it's about time we hand over the power infrastructure to the government, and have our tax dollars do what they SHOULD be doing.

1

u/RequirementCivil4328 Aug 23 '26

You forgot the /s

5

u/Extreme_Egg7476 Aug 22 '26

Commenting in hopes someone will post the GoFundMe link! And if anyone knows a trustworthy resource to donate to everyone else in this town.

3

u/RLJ05 Aug 23 '26

you don't know anything about this, she was taking the money for herself

6

u/indicabunny Aug 22 '26

It's literally just racism. That's it.

-1

u/Reptilian_Brain_420 Aug 23 '26

You are assuming that the people doing this aren't the same race as this woman.

1

u/Dracotoo Aug 23 '26

Hmmm not quite what’s going on here.

1

u/Professional-Day7850 Aug 23 '26

Crabs don't pull each other down on purpose. The crab above them jsut looks like something you can grab to climb up.

1

u/cmkinusn Aug 23 '26

What exactly are donations going to do here?? She isnt jobless, is she? So why donate anything at all? That's why she is getting doxxed.

1

u/smallsoftlover Aug 27 '26

what does “crabs in a bucket” mean ?

1

u/Reptilian_Brain_420 Aug 27 '26

If only there was an information network in which you could enter a search term (or phrase) and pull up a massive amount of information explaining the meaning behind the phrase you re wondering about...

1

u/smallsoftlover Aug 27 '26

ok i’m sorry

0

u/inebriateddandhated Aug 23 '26
