Yeah, maybe I got lucky being abused as a kid because I had the flexibility to say "no way in hell am I raising my kid like I was raised" but still had plenty of wiggle room before I got to the "take no responsibility or disciplinary action" end of the spectrum. Plenty of accountability/praise, none of the beatings! 😅

But there are so many who weren’t quite as bad off as you and don’t have that wiggle room, but still don’t want to reprimand the way their parents did

Bingo. People like to immediately jump to, “oh they want to beat their kids!” Like no, that’s not discipline, that’s child abuse. What should also be considered child abuse is letting your terror of a kid run feral terrorizing others.
