About a week ago there were four young teen boys, two per scooter, going the wrong way on a busy four lane street, wildly swerving around cars and pedestrians on the sidewalk. People just walking are also in danger because of these reckless riders
On my way home couple days ago I counted the amount of kids (estimated below 18) riding e-scooters; 12 kids in less than 1.5 miles, many of them riding super erratically in mixed and heavy traffic. Doing wheelies, hopping red lights, weaving on and off the pavement, I saw two close calls in the short trip I made not a single one wearing a helmet.
The kicker is that the 12 I counted were the ones I met, in MY lane, riding into oncoming traffic. 12 kids in less than two miles riding on the wrong side of the road, pure madness.
The accident that I saw was a kid on a scooter (the small wheeled ones) full speed crossing in the crosswalk (he did have a green), hitting the wheelchair access ramp to do a jump, came down at a weird angle and slid off the sidewalk into the gutter. The kid stepped off to the right and rolled while the scooter got trapped between the gutter and a truck. It got smashed in spectacular fashion and kicked out into traffic. I'm 1000% certain that his immediate thought was "Oh shit! My scooter!!"
I'm surprised that I don't hear any stories about elderly people being knocked over by scooters. They wouldn't be able to react as well as you did to something so sudden. Children as well are in more danger since they might not understand what's happening. I'm glad you and your kids are okay
