Am I the only one who thinks Maysilee dying in the games was a honest mercy
Obviously there is no mercy in The Hunger Games, but whenever I think about it, the fact that she was killed is a mercy to her. Because she killed a Gamemaker on live TV she knew she killed the Gamemaker, she was marked for death-but if she somehow managed to win, she would have been immediately... Trafficked. She would have been passed around the Capitol as a 16-year-old child. She would have been brought to parties. She would have been made a constant piece of propaganda. But she would have faced a fate far worse than death. If she survived, her soul would be broken over and over and over again. It would be broken every week.
I honestly think it is a mercy she was killed by the Gamemakers instead of having to live that waking nightmare. Because although Haymitch got a fate worse than death, it... it is still more merciful. Which goes to show you how fucked up Snow is. The man is a fucking monster.
I am so glad Suzanne Collins didn't pull any punches with this book. In the original trilogy, you could tell she was actively trying to make it so it wasn't so intense or soul-shattering. This one, it's like she was sipping coffee with the devil. God damn, I'm not going to survive the movie.
I'm not going to survive this movie I'm going to be leaving that movie theater with bloodshot eyes and going to go home and cry myself to sleep.
