You're also saying that an engine that is known to catastrophically fail, but gets replaced under warranty somehow negates that initial catastrophic failure (I'm not 100% sure you understand what that phrase means).
You're confusing repairability with reliability. Nobody wants their fucking 90-125k SUV recalled. Losing your primary driver or family vehicle for several days to a week or more is a pretty big issue for most families. It's not an oil change, it's not an oopsy I scratched the paint, it's a fucking engine swap (and a post production engine swap at that). I've actually been through this before, and it took FOURTEEN service appointments to make it right.
Just because the cost is nothing, doesn't mean there isn't any inconvenience. If you're paying that much money for a top trim SUV, I don't think 'not wanting any recalls' is a high bar.
My dude, in this scenario most people and their cars have not had a catastrophic failure. A small amount of the affected cars have and an recall was issued. As long as you're a responsible car owner, the issue/recall gets resolved before you get anywhere close to a catastrophic failure. And guess what? Every decent dealership in this country is going to give you a courtesy car for the time they have your car.
Is it somewhat inconvenient? Yeah. But none of that meets the definition of catastrophic failure. None of this suggests that most or a significant amount of cars manufactured "DIE at 70k miles".
