I spent some time thinking of what's working and what's not working for the team. For this thought exercise I put aside any consideration of a sale and kept the assumption that Bruce is still in charge through 2027 at least.
That got me to look a bit at some of the folks who stayed on the team in 2026 simply because they already had a contract through 2026 and were not easy trades (but would be easy to drop now when their contracts end).
Another consideration is folks taking up senior roster slots since then it's not just about how much they cost the team, but also how much MLS Monopoly money the use up.
So, here's what I predict might happen (assuming the team isn't sold soon and Bruce remains in charge):
Most of the following would leave (or perhaps rejoin at a lower renegotiated pay): Vítor Costa, Jack Skahan, Noel Buck, Dave Romney, Earl Edwards Jr., Ronaldo Vieira, Paul Marie, Nonso Adimabua, Max Floriani
In terms of what I hope for:
- I'd love to keep Paul Marie a bit longer, but I think it may not work out and he'll get a better deal elsewhere.
- I'd rather have Edwards stay than Gunn. Edwards, IMO, is in better form than Gunn (though most of Edward's saves in the last game were of the easier kind) but Gunn has a guaranteed contract and given the domino effect of trading Daniel to Dallas and getting Gunn and Lowen, I think we may be stuck wtih Gunn with the team not wanting / willing to keep Edwards on a senior roster slot.
I'm indifferent around some of the potential departures with a few that I strongly prefer to see depart:
- Jack Skahan. The ceiling is just not good enough and I rarely see him add much when he plays.
- Ronaldo Vieira. I think he's overpaid and I don't like his on field volatility / aggresiveness.
- Nonso Adimabua. Doesn't seem worth keeping even at the lower wage.
- Max Floriani. Not good enough, IMO, and now that his initial Generation Adidas pre-signed senior is expiring, I think the Quakes are better off recruiting new talent. Roberts, not without blunders, is doing much better, IMO.
Pardon any imperfect phrasing or inaccuracies - I ended up choosing not to use AI to clean this up and polish since that often gets lots of downvotes.
I suspect a few of those I listed to stay after all, but my prediction is that most of them would depart at the end of this season.

We’re going to continue to support the team, but weren’t seeing the benefits of continuing to be a STH so we didn’t renew. Did think this was funny though.
I’m surprised John Fisher approved the budget for this.

I'm relatively new fan - just started following them last season. First time STH this season.
I know he is often the captain, but I don't get what Viera brings. I see him frequently turning it over. Often flopping and taking his time getting up, leading to the other team having advantage. Rarely able to build forward. Often getting stupid cards.
I get that teams need bruiser/enforcer types and his tackling is ok I guess.
But yeah - feel like we usually play better without him.

Yesterday, some of the photographers took a few pics of me and my friend, and I was wondering where we could find them. Do you guys have any idea if they’re posted somewhere, or if they’re just for the photographers’ portfolios or something like that?
Thank you!

Edwards Jr has been removed from the injury list last week after a long period of inactivity. When he was healthy he barely played. In his limited playing time, he alternated terrible mistakes with amazing saves.
I have never seen Montali or Crockford play. I know Crockford starts for Quakes II while Montali has been listed as Gunn's sub this year, without seeing any minutes.

Columbus Crew 2 just fired Higuain after misogynistic ref abuse, so will the Quakes please follow suit and fire Gavin Wilkinson? I cannot believe he’s was hired by Bruce and that as a fan base we haven’t forced him out yet. I really love the Quakes but I really hate GW. How do we escalate this so that the Quakes take it seriously? #GWOut isn’t enough, we seriously need him gone ASAP. Wilkenson was fired by the Timbers in 2022 after he was named in the Yates Report, which “detailed systematic abuse by several coaches in the NWSL.” Bay FC already put out a statement condemning the Quakes and the Quakes still don’t seem to care. Do we truly have such a misogynistic, thoughtless club here in the Bay Area? Hiring and retaining GW reflects so poorly on this club and we don’t need him at all.

We're a newly soccer-mad family (my son started playing at 5 last season, not because of the WC though that didn't hurt) and while perhaps this shows my ignorance as it relates to soccer, we really enjoyed the match on Saturday afternoon. It was our first in-person experience and while it certainly could have gone better, it was at least entertaining to watch.
The Quakes seemed to control the ball much of the match and had no shortage of scoring opportunities. The second-half in particular was a real hoot, especially sitting behind LA's goal.
I've been a Sharks fan for 30+ years and have never minded when they lose, as long as they are still putting up a good fight I enjoy watching my team play. At least on Saturday, I feel like that could definitely be said for the Quakes.
And a shoutout to the other fans in the stands (both Quakes and LAFC for that matter). At least around us, everyone was having a good time and ensuring those around them did as well. Definitely looking forward to the next time we can make it out.
