We are sort of trying that in my area. It's government subsidized low cost daycare. The waiting list is very long. You have to join the queue before the baby is born to hope to get into the program before the child goes into first grade. This is because they're struggling to find businesses and people willing to do ECE work for the amount the government is able to pay.
2 years of parental paid leave, able to be split between both parents. Like in Denmark.🇩🇰
It doesn't account for the lost time in terms of advancing your career, and a 2 year old will still have to go to daycare at the very least, if not additional time off by the parents, or alternative care from friends/family.
One way or another, someone has to spend the time on childcare. If it's not the parent(s), it's somebody else who is either volunteering their time or being paid to do it.

Imagine we had a country with free childcare - neither would have sacrificed themselves.
