Who else was waiting for autum sale to grab all the oddworld games for less than the price of a cheeseburger (me)

Hello! 👽 I’m deciding on asking this just because I’m curious as to what everyone wants to see with the franchise moving forward, as I love this series to death and can never get enough, and I’m wondering what up to date ideas or thoughts you guys have as well.

Me personally, I don’t expect a fully fledged game for stranger ever again. It didn’t get a lot of reception when it released, and regardless of how much I love it, unfortunately I’m not sure love alone without the full support is gonna ever have a story like Stranger’s have a comeback, if not with Abe somehow even if the location thing would be of conflict, as we know it isn’t easy to make games without huge support like bigger teams/studio’s get.

I adore stranger, I’m trying to get the platinum on PS4 and yes I’ve seen the extra content in game you can unlock such as clips and art. Even if it’s art, content with his model or something, I’d be happy. Because I’ll be honest I have a fat crush on the guy (teehee). That and I love anything that has to do with western society like the red dead redemption trilogy. But because of how nicely his story wraps up, if we never get any future games for him again, I wouldn’t complain, and I’m pretty satisfied with his ending. :)

Anyway, in regards to Abe, I’m hoping we get to see more development elsewhere. I know his games are obviously what’s most popular, but I think if we ever get the chance to have a one off character like stranger have their own story? Then why not? Seeing a new face would be awesome and I always enjoy seeing Lorne’s ideas, whether they get fulfilled with a story in the form of a game or not. Especially if the story gets enough traction that they decide to continue it and go on from there.

I’ve seen other miscellaneous content that isn’t Oddworld related at all, at least canon content, from their archive/website, and it’s awesome. Even if we got new content and saw new characters in the form of a comic, that would be awesome too! I feel like Oddworld has the potential to tell stories that might not work for a game and that’s ok.

Anyways, tell me what you guys are hoping for! I know this question comes around a lot, but I’m curious as it’s been a while. What direction are you hoping the team takes?

I’m wondering if it’s just me, but I was aggravated with this part of the game for a while trying to get to the scrab temple. I had to restart the chapter MULTIPLE TIMES because if Abe dies at the next checkpoint after this, the rock you can take up and down resets to go all the way up, and if you need the spirit bomb, you’re basically f*cked because there’s no way back up there unless you restart. At least from what I saw.

I didn’t have much issue with this game as much as others other than the fact that my jumps or movement isn’t precise like the OG, but this part almost had me crawling up the walls mad LMAO

If anyone had the same issue, or if it was me just being silly let me know 🤣 I had a good time and I love these games to death so I’m hoping my next platinum isn’t gonna be a headache.

I haven't played a ton of Oddworld. My introduction to the franchise was Munchy's Oddysee on the OG Xbox. (Never beat it as my dad broke the disc as a punishment) I also played a bit of New N Tasty a few years back. I recently started getting into the lore of the franchise and I felt the need to draw some fan-art.

Going through all the secret areas that I can find, near the beginning of the game, and there's this lift thing, to a closed door in the last picture.. is there a way to open it?

Fair warning, this is mostly a vent post about my history with this franchise and my relationship with Abe’s Odyssey. I apologize in advance for the long rant.

I picked up Abe’s Odyssey at a flea market (alongside a ps2) many years ago, when I was a kid. When I actually played the game I was awe struck by the dark world building and GORGEOUS artwork, but was left infuriated by the extreme difficulty. I never beat level one , I never escaped Rupture Farms, I never even made it far enough into the game to figure out if it’s level based or a metroidvainia. I remember the game even refusing to freaking save my progress, but I don’t remember why. Despite the tear-jerking, rage inducing, hauntingly frustrating difficulty, I came back to this game over and over again to try and beat it as a child, and (if I remember correctly) a little into my teenage years too. The atmosphere this game created was irresistible, and the creatures inhabiting the world are so unique (I can’t help but compare Oddworld to Bionicle in terms of ip’s that are undescribably unique). Now, as an adult, this game sits on my shelf hanging over me as a shadow of my past, taunting me with my childhood self’s failure.

As an adult, I adore the lore and world building of Oddworld. I’ve watched hours of lore videos (shoutout to pupbenny), listened to theories, ranted to friends. The Glukkens and Sligs are in my top 10 favorite sci-fi armies/factions. Was Strangers Wrath really supposed to lead into Hand of Odd? If Oddworld had a Kaiju what would it look like?? If Hand of Odd did happen, would the Vikers and Glukkons been separate factions or both part of a bigger “industry” faction? How does Rupture Farms stay in business if animal breeding for livestock appears to not be a thing on this planet?! Having the Wovarks at the end of Soulstorm like in the concept art would have been AWESOME! God, the I love the designs of all the strange looking creatures!

Because of my experience with Oddworld, I’ve grown an appreciation for the art design and atmosphere in the video games I play. The backgrounds and tone setting in Abe’s Odyssey is so perfectly executed, it’s always stuck with me, even if the game itself doesn’t come off the shelf unless I have a group of friends to tackle it with me. I love to “stop and smell the roses” in all the games I play, so to speak. Stopping to appreciate the world of the game and immerse myself in the setting.

Oddworld as a series is one that I very much love, but the game itself is more difficult than the games I typically play. I suppose it’s time to gather my friends together and see if we can finally put this shadow to rest.
