Prospective Student transferring to lmu

hi guys, I’m transferring to LMU spring semester from chapman University and I wanted to know how different is the social scene compare Chapman. Because at Chapman, it’s mostly just like an occasional frat parties every few weeks and they get pretty they get rolled by like 1 am and there’s nothing really to do in Orange County but like go to Disney and like the beach so is LMU different I know cause it’s in LA and if I bring a car like there’s a lot of things to do so what other things is there to do?

Prospective Student UCLA or LMU

Hi! I have been accepted as a Biology major for LMU and UCLA (which was a very very pleasant surprise for me) but LMU has always been my dream school ever since I toured but now I’m torn. I do like smaller class sizes and got into Honors at LMU and received very generous merit aid scholarships that would make it very affordable for me to attend there. However, I recently visited UCLA and really really love the surrounding area and applied for the scholarships, plus, the Greek Row houses are definitely a plus for me since I hope to rush a sorority and the name recognition is def a pro. i hope to become a genetic counselor and go to graduate school, but I’m worried about UCLA competitiveness with registering for classes, clubs, etc, and just large class sizes. Also if I don’t end up choosing UCLA for undergrad, I hope to attend UCLA’s genetic counseling program for graduate school. I’m just torn!! Any feedback or information regarding biology is much appreciated!! Thank you so much!

Prospective Student prospective student, questions about lmu!!

hi! i’m a high school senior from arizona, and LMU is probably my number two school behind Pepperdine. i love the location, campus size, catholic identity, and the possibility of studying business in los angeles.

i’m currently interested in business/finance and possibly complex commercial insurance brokerage, so i’d really appreciate honest answers from current students or alumni:

  • how easy is it to make close friends, especially if you aren’t heavily involved in greek life?
  • is the christian/catholic community actually active among students? are retreats, mass, small groups, service, or christian organizations well attended?
  • what is greek life like? is recruitment intense, and does social life feel divided between people who are and aren’t involved? id love to get involved... if its not too scary.
  • what do weekends look like? do people stay around campus, go into LA, go to the beach, or go home?
  • does LMU have much school spirit? is campus lively outside class, or can it feel quiet?
  • how necessary is a car, and how expensive is it to participate in the typical social life?
  • for business students, how useful are LMU’s internships, alumni network and connections in LA? i’m especially interested in finance, sales, insurance, entrepreneurship and commercial real estate.
  • how accurate was LMU’s net price calculator compared with your actual grant and scholarship offer? my affordable comparison is ASU at about $14k per year including housing and food, without counting loans.
  • what do you wish you had known before choosing LMU?

sorry this is a lot lol, you definitely don’t have to answer everything. i’d be really grateful for any honest advice, including drawbacks! :)

Prospective Student Do I have a shot at LMU? I know lots of ppl ask this question but it's been plaguing me and I just want to know what I can do to improve. I can only go if i get financial aid through merit scholarships and outside scholarships cus my parents are weird about FAFSA, so here;s my stats:

I'm currently a junior in HS and I'm the BSU president, co-founder of a nonprofit, founder of drug prevention committee, and this summer I plan to volunteer at an animal shelter during the summer, an internship at a law firm also during summer and an internship with the ACLU during the summer as well. I also have a 3.95 UW and idk what it is weighted, but I've also won 5 awards during my freshman and sophomore years and both involved magna cum laude, idk if that counts for anything lol. I want to do more during my senior year and senior year summer as well but its just been stressing me out lol. I reallyy need that Presidential scholarship or lots of scholarship money. ALSO, I just wanted to know what life is like there bc one of the things I value is being in a big city for college and not being isolated, and I js feel like LMU is isolated from the rest of LA and i lowk wanna be in the heart of LA like in the community. I plan to (maybe) major in political science and definitely minor in cultural anthropology bc i wanna be a human rights lawyer, so community and social work is very important to me. Ik this is a loaded post but thank you guys sm!

Prospective Student LMU or Pepperdine

I'm deciding between Pepperdine and LMU which I got both in for finance. Pepperdine gave me about 50,000 in scholarship but LMU only gave me 15,000. I know that LMU finance is better but at the same time I don't think it's worth paying another 100,000. Where should I go?

Prospective Student Fin aid (how generous r they)

I understand it’s an expensive school but idk how anyone can pay 80k+ tbh I probably can’t pay over 50k a year… maybe that was my fault for applying but I really loved the campus and vibe and location and it has that LA film aspect that I wanna pursue on the side while doing premed/ psych and ugh I’m not super religious but I really want to explore it and hear people’s views and stuff. It’s so nice in every way except the cost… I’m a high achieving student i have a 3.9UW, very unique situation in high school, really good ecs considering. middle class with our submitted taxes being 100,000 a year and 4 people in the household. I cannot justify over 50,000 especially considering I want to do med school. I am very lucky and won’t have to go into debt if I do less than around 30k a year. how will aid look? Do they accept appeals/ specific circumstances? are they generous? will I get merit? what will merit look like?

Prospective Student How are you paying to go to LMU? Serious question.

I recently got accepted into LMU for the fall class of 2026. But so far my financial aid package only got me a 14k scholarship fund which brings my cost down to 77k. I haven't gotten my fafsa updated yet which im sure will only cover about 8k leaving me at like 69k left for the school. Im looking into appealing my aid and applying for loads of scholarships because realistically i want to try and get the school down to 50k and unrealistically 45k... Is this possible? are any students in LMU currently struggling with tuition...?

Prospective Student Got into LMU off the waitlist… but for Film/TV Media Studies. Is it worth it?

I just got admitted off the LMU waitlist into the School of Film & Television, but it’s for Film, Television, and Media Studies (my alternate major). I’m honestly torn

If you’re in FTVMS or you know how SFTV works: is it realistic to get hands-on production experience from this major, or is production pretty locked down? And how hard is it to switch either into production or into like a business major later? I’m trying to decide whether it’s smarter to start at LMU and try to move around once committed, or do a year/two somewhere else and transfer. Thank you

Also if you’ve done it, what did your internships/jobs look like coming out of FTVMS? Thanks!!

Prospective Student Financial aid

So I got my financial aid package and…not good 😭 I love Lmu and was super excited to get accepted after my deferral, however my main priority is to not put me or my family into insane debt after college and with the offer I was given the chances of me being able to go without doing so looks slim. Does anyone have experience requesting more aid and how did you do so? Are they flexible?

Prospective Student Scholarship amount. Trying to gauge if the amount awarded to me in a merit scholarship to LMU is below average, average, or above average. I was awarded the Arrupe scholarship for $19,500 per year.

The remaining amount is still quite high. Is there a possibility to appeal?

Prospective Student Chapman vs SLO vs LMU

Hi everyone! I’m trying to decide between Chapman University, LMU, and Cal Poly SLO for undergrad and would really appreciate some honest insight from current students or alumni.

My long term plan is law school, so maintaining a strong GPA is really important. I’m planning to major in business/finance (or something similar), and I’m trying to understand how grading works at these schools.

A few things I’m hoping people can share:

• Is there grade deflation or heavy curving in business/finance classes?
• How difficult is it realistically to maintain a high GPA (3.5+) if you’re a strong student?
• Are professors supportive or are classes graded on strict curves?
• Does one of these schools have a reputation for being tougher on grading than the others?

I’m not looking for an “easy” school ... just trying to understand the academic environment before committing since GPA matters a lot for law school admissions.

Would really appreciate any firsthand experiences from people in business, economics, or finance at these schools. Thanks!

Prospective Student Lmu EA decisions

Has Lmu ever released their decisions on a weekend? I’m only asking because December 13 is when EA decisions came out last year, and they released ED decisions same day as last year. Make they might do the same for EA?

Prospective Student Pathway program question

So like I got rejected from LMU but they are giving me the option to do the pathway program and I basically attend SMC for 2 semesters and if I get a 3.00 (easy) I am guaranteed to go to LMU for fall 2027 and I still get access to LMU student privileges like the LMU pathway ID card, Hannon library access, and LMU athletic events...or should I just go to Cal poly Pomona and try to transfer sophomore year to a UC or LMU?

Prospective Student lmu pros and cons

I'm really interested in attending LMU for screenwriting next fall, and I was wondering about the pros and cons of the university. How's student life, how's it socially, how are the courses, the food, everything. What's it like going?

Thanks for taking the time to read this!
