Please add a flair. Tehran Blvd/Seoul St: 70s Korean Folk-Ballad & Persian Psych-Pop listening set
Hey everyone! I put together a DJ mix exploring a rare historical and musical parallel between 1970s South Korea and Iran.
In 1977, Seoul and Tehran officially declared themselves sister cities (which is how Tehran Boulevard in Gangnam and Seoul Street in Tehran got their names). But beyond the diplomatic ties, young musicians in both capitals were navigating almost identical cultural moments in the 60s and 70s (rapid modernization, heavy censorship, and an influx of Western music) - (more context and description also available on the soundcloud)
The set is made of some of my favorite 70s Korean folk-rock/ t'ongit'a and trot classics from Lee Su Mi, Cho Yong-pil, Seo Yu-seok, Haebaragi, Park In-hui, Hong Min, and Kim Jung-ho, blended with pre-revolutionary Persian psych-pop icons like Simin Ghanem, Marjan, and Betti.
Hope you enjoy this and would love to hear your thoughts or similar track recommendations. probably gonna make the part 2 sometime soon
