Stepping down... and recruiting a new team of Mods!
Hey y'all,
Over the last year, I've been the sole active mod left on this subreddit.

The other mods have been inactive ever since the API change a few years ago (understandably so) and Reddit has implemented new limits on how many active subs a single mod can moderate.
As a result, I'll have to step down from modding this sub and will be recruiting a new team of passionate mods to keep the B99 spirit alive! So far only u/WannabeWriter2022 has gotten back to me, and they'll take over starting immediately.
To help out u/WannabeWriter2022 , we are recruiting! If you're interested, please apply here: https://www.reddit.com/r/brooklynninenine/application/
I'll still be around as an Advisor but I wish the best of luck to the new mod team!
This show holds a special place in my heart, and I want to thank the community for all of the memes, discussion, and overall love for this show over the past few years...
Goodbyes are inherently sad. They mean that something's ending.
NINE NINE!

Discussion What if B99 did a limited-series prequel set in the 1980s, starring young Hitchcock & Scully?
I’ve been thinking about this for a while: what if Brooklyn Nine-Nine did a one-season limited series set in the 1980s, following a much younger Hitchcock and Scully?
Not a full reboot or anything, more like a 8–10 episode spin-off/prequel showing the 99th Precinct back when Hitchcock and Scully were actually competent cops.
I think there’s a lot of comedy potential in seeing them as young, ambitious detectives who are genuinely good at their jobs, while slowly watching them become the Hitchcock and Scully we know.
You could also have some younger versions of characters from the main series make occasional appearances:
Young Holt, maybe as a newly promoted detective or someone Hitchcock/Scully cross paths with.(I would suggest Sterling K Brown as young Holt, given his admiration towards Andre)
Young Wuntch, giving us a glimpse of their rivalry before everything became personal.
Young Terry, depending on the timeline; maybe as a rookie or a young officer they encounter.
Maybe even some other characters’ parents or older relatives as little Easter eggs.
And because it's set in the 80s, the whole thing could have that ridiculous period aesthetic (terrible hairstyles, huge phones, old-school police technology, cheesy action-movie references, etc)
The interesting part to me would be that Hitchcock and Scully wouldn't start out as idiots. They'd actually be good detectives. The running joke could be that they're constantly making questionable decisions, but somehow keep solving cases.
Then by the end of the season, you could have a time jump or montage showing the gradual transition into the versions we know from B99.
Basically:
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The Early Years
8–10 episodes.
1980s.
Young Hitchcock & Scully.
A competent-but-chaotic detective duo.
Occasional young Holt/Wuntch/Terry cameos.
And absolutely no explanation for how Hitchcock eventually became… that Hitchcock.
I'd genuinely watch the hell out of this.
Would anyone else be into this, or am I just desperate for more Hitchcock & Scully lore?

Discussion For the fantasy readers: Who do you think DC Parlov is based on
I was reminded of authors like David Eddings, Terry Brooks or even Brandon Sanderson in terms of the overall style of the stories Parlov seems to write. But I've also heard people say he's based on George RR Martin because he puuullls (which George does too, apparently).
Who do you think Parlov was inspired by?

Discussion Intentional Easter Egg?: MASH's Jack Scully is Norm Scully's Dad
I'm currently watching MASH fully through for the first time, and hearing the name Scully several times through out an episode reminded me of how Norm once said that his dad was a POW in Korea.
There's not a lot of information about Norm Scully's dad to really draw too many parallels between the shows, but I found the idea that Jack could be Norm's dad amusing, so I dug around a little. There is no mention of Jerry (Jack) Scully becoming a POW in MASH. Only that he's on the front lines and is not seen again in the show after returning to his place on the line (MASH season 8, episode 14).
Still, I thought the idea that it could be an actual Easter egg by the writers seemed completely unlikely, until I saw that the writers would talk about MASH regularly in the writers room in the Brooklyn 99 podcast from 2020. Even making younger writers watch MASH. ( https://www.nbc.com/brooklyn-nine-nine/exclusives/brooklyn-nine-nine-podcast ,part 1, Starting at 6:30 if you wanted to hear for yourself.)
Also, MASH was produced by 20th Century Fox and Brooklyn 99 (at the time Scully mentioned his POW dad) was a Fox show. Which, combined with the writers being fans of MASH, tees up a plausible Easter egg by the writers. Even if it's still unlikely.
What do you think?

Season 4 Jake & Rosa's Court Case
I'm currently rewatching for the millionth time and am on the court episode aka s4e22.
I think Jake & Rosa should have hired Sophia to be their lawyer. 1) would have been funny to see how awkward the process of hiring her would be, 2) Sophia's a SHARK. The lawyer they had seemed kind of lazy. Jake & Rosa would likely never have ended up in prison if Sophia was their defense attorney. But I suppose them going to prison was an important part of the plot.
